EMI1.1
présentent d'excellentes propriétés bactéricides et en partie aussi des propriétés vermicides. Dans cette formule générale : X et Y sont des atomes d'oxygène ou des groupements NE., Z est un atome d'hydrogène, un groupement sulfonique ou carboxyle ou encore un radical sulfonique ou carboxyle à l'état de sel, R3 est un radical alkyle, oxyalkyle, polyoxyalkyle, carboxyalkyle, carbalkoxyalkyle, carbamidoalkyle, aminoalkyle, alkylaminoalkyle, dialkylaminoal- kyle ou aralkyle, ce radical pouvant être interrompu une ou plusieurs fois par des hétéroatomes ou des groupements ou bien pouvant être relié au radical aryle par des hétéroatomes ou hétérogroupements comme par exemple des atomes d'oxygène ou de soufre, des groupements NH- ou N-alkyle;
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
On fait réagir par exemple un composé de formule II ou III avec un diester réactif d'un alcool divalent, par exemple un diester d'hy- dracide halogéné, donc un dihalogénure d'alkylène; ensuite on remplace le deuxième atome d'halogène par un groupement amino, alkylamino ou dialkyla- mino;
Exemple 1.
On ajoute goutte à goutte à 50 g d'isobutyl-mercapto-résorcine
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Exemple 5.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

when Z is a hydrogen atom, then introducing a sulfonic group by means of a sulfonation agent or a carboxyl group by means of a carboxylation agent, either before or after a subsequent reaction.
The subsequent reaction of a compound of formula III with a reactive alkanol or aralkanol ester corresponding to R1 or R2 is carried out in principle in the same way as indicated above.
In general, the operation is preferably carried out in an alkaline medium. In addition, it is possible either to prepare a salt, on the sulfur atom, of a dioxy- or amino-oxythiophenol or else to react the thiophenol directly with the ester of alkanol or aralkanol reactive in the presence of a basic condensing agent.
Suitable reactive esters of alkanols corresponding to R1, R2 or R3 are firstly esters of halogenated hydracids, then esters of sulfuric, alkylsulphonic or arylsulphonic acids.
As reactive acid derivatives corresponding to R1, R2 and R3
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the halides or the anhydrides are particularly suitable.
When it is desired to introduce radicals R1, R2 and / or R3, carrying functional groups or being interrupted by heteroatoms or groups, it is possible, instead of the procedure given above, to use the following procedure: a ) for radicals containing amino, alkylamino or dialkylamino groups or being interrupted by NH or N-alkyl groups:
For example, a compound of formula II or III is reacted with a reactive diester of a divalent alcohol, for example a halogenated hydacid diester, therefore an alkylene dihalide; then the second halogen atom is replaced by an amino, alkylamino or dialkylamino group;
this substitution takes place by simple heating with the corresponding amines. b) for radicals containing carboxyl or carbamido groups, etc:
The reaction is preferably carried out with a reactive ester of an alkanol or aralkanol corresponding to R, R2 or R3, which contains the carboxyl group in a form which does not allow the formation of a salt, for example in the form of. 'a carbalkoxy group, of a nitrile group, and these groups are then hydrolyzed to a carboxyl or carbamido group, for example, acid or alkali. (c) for radicals which are interrupted by oxygen or sulfur atoms or which contain aryl radicals linked by oxygen or sulfur atoms:
A compound of formula II or III is reacted with a reactive diester of a divalent alcohol, therefore a dihalide for example, and this reaction product is then reacted, preferably in the presence of a basic condensing agent, with a alkanol, an akylthiol, a phenol or a thiophenol, or alternatively, without a condensing agent, with an alcoholate or phenolate of an alcohol, alkylthiol, phenol or thiophenol. d) for radicals which contain amino groups on an aryl ring:
Preferably, a reactive ester or a reactive acid derivative containing nitro groups is reacted. These nitro groups can then, after the reaction, be converted to amino groups by reduction, preferably by catalytic hydrogenation.
The introduction of a carboxyl group in position 2 is advantageously carried out after the introduction of the radical 3. It can be introduced by reaction of the dioxy or amino compound with an alkali and carbonic acid in the presence or absence. of water, so for example in an inert solvent such as anisol, etc.
The introduction of the sulfonic group can be done at any time.
For this purpose, the dioxy or aminooxy compound is reacted with concentrated sulfuric acid, oleum or a halosulfonic radical.
In addition, the operation is carried out in the absence or in the presence of a solvent such as nitro-benzene for example.
The sulfonic acid thus formed is preferably isolated in the form of the alkali salt, for example the sodium salt.
Example 1.
Is added dropwise to 50 g of isobutyl-mercapto-resorcinol
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
dissolved in 300 cm3 of absolute nitrobenzene 30 g of chlorosulfonic acid while stirring and cooling with ice. Stirring is continued for 2 hours at 18-22 C, left to stand overnight, the nitrobenzene solution extracted 3 times by stirring with water and the aqueous solution is concentrated under vacuum to 250 cm3. Sufficient sodium chloride is added to the solution, after clarification with animal charcoal, so that a precipitate no longer occurs. The latter is filtered off under vacuum, washed with saturated sodium chloride solution and dried.
The precipitate comprising the sodium salt of S-isobutyl-mercapto-resorcinosulfonic acid is extracted several times by boiling with absolute alcohol. The ethyl filtrates are concentrated and cooled. About 20-25 g of the sodium salt of isobutymercaptoresorcinesulphonic acid are obtained in the form of white lamellae, melting at about 325 ° C. while turning brown.
The salt dissolves very easily in water, easily in methanol, ethanol and acetone which contain water.
Example 2.
A pasty product is made by introducing 200 g of mercaptoresorcin in a solution of 32 g of sodium in 2 liters of absolute ethanol and the whole mixture is heated slightly until dissolved. 284 g of 5 -phenoxyethoxyethyl chloride in 400 cm3 of absolute ethanol are poured dropwise into the clear, light yellow solution. The mixture is left to stand at room temperature for 20 hours, then heated for 2 hours on a steam bath, the alcohol is distilled off and the residue is taken up in ether.
The ethereal solution is extracted with water, dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated on a steam bath. The residue weighing 350 g is distilled under a high vacuum, thus obtaining a yellowish viscous oil distilling under 0.06 mm around 187-188 C. This oil crystallizes after standing for a long time and can be recrystallized from chlorobenzene, thus obtaining S- (# -phenoxyethoxy) ethylmercaptoresorcin, melting at 68-69 ° C. The yield is 275 g, or 64% of theory. The new compound dissolves very well in ethanol, acetone, dioxane, acetate ester, ether, chloroform and benzene; it dissolves very little in boiling water and in petroleum ether.
Example 3
4.85 g of sodium are dissolved in 300 cm3 of absolute ethanol. The solution is mixed with 30 g of mercaptoresorcin and the whole is added, with stirring, to 26.5 g of ss -oxy-ethoxyethyl chloride in 60 cm 3 of ethanol. Allowed to stand for 20 hours at room temperature, then heated for 3 hours in a steam bath and evaporated to dryness. The residue is taken up in ether, the ethereal solution washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate and evaporated again. By distillation under high vacuum, S- (-oxyethoxy) ethylmercaptoresorcin is obtained, boiling under 0.04 mm at 168 ° C., with a yield of 21.7 g, ie 44.5% of theory. The new compound is miscible with water, ethanol, acetone and dioxane.
It is poorly soluble in cold benzene and practically insoluble in petroleum ether.
Example 4.
In a manner analogous to that of Example 3, from 20 g of mercaptoresorcin, 3.2 g of sodium, 200 cm3 of absolute ethanol and 28.4 g of phenoxyethyl bromide, S -phenoxyethylmercaptoresorcin, melting at 106-108 C, with a yield of 25.3 g, or 68.5% of theory. The new compound dissolves very well in acetone, dioxane, acetate ester, ether; it is sparingly soluble in cold water and in petroleum ether.
The same compound is obtained when the mercaptoresorcinol is reacted with ethylene bromide and then the condensate is reacted with phenol.

Example 5.
10 g of sodium are dissolved in 500 cm3 of absolute methanol. To this solution is added 50 g of S-carbetoxymethylmercaptoresorcin, heated until dissolved and the whole is boiled under reflux for 6 hours with 75 g of isobutyl bromide. Then left to stand for 20 hours at room temperature, the reaction solution evaporated to dryness, the residue mixed with water and extracted with ether and twice with benzene. The combined ethereal and benzene extracts are washed with water, dried and evaporated.
The residue is distilled under high vacuum. Bis-isobutoxy-S-carbethoxy-methylmercaptobenzene is thus obtained, boiling under 0.02 mm at 138-140 ° C., with a yield of approximately 30 g. The new compound is readily soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone and ether. When this compound is heated with ethanolic sodium in a steam bath for a few hours, the free acid is obtained which is very difficult to crystallize. Its lead salt melts around 117-122 C.
Example 6.
30 g of S-isobutylmercaptoresorcin are added to a solution of 7 g of sodium in 200 cm3 of absolute ethanol, and 46.5 g of chloroacetic ester are poured into the whole at the boiling point. The mixture is boiled for one hour in a stream of nitrogen, left to stand overnight, the sodium chloride formed is separated by filtration under vacuum and extracted by washing with ethanol and with ether. The filtrate is evaporated in vacuo and the residue is distilled under high vacuum. Bis- (carbetoxymethoxy) -S-isobutylmercaptobenzene is thus obtained in the form of a viscous colorless to light yellow oil, distilling under 0.04 mm at around 156-157 C, at a rate of 26 g, which corresponds to a yield of 47% of theory.
The substance dissolves easily in cold methanol, ethanol, acetone, ether and chloroform, sparingly in petroleum ether and is insoluble in boiling water.
Example 7.
36.7 g of bis- (carbethoxymethoxy) -S-isobutyl-mercaptobenzene are introduced into a solution of 15 g of caustic soda in 30 cm3 of water and 250 cm3 of ethanol. The whole is boiled for 30 minutes in a steam bath, then the ethanol is separated and the residue is weakly acidified with acetic acid. It is treated with an acetic solution of lead acetate, the precipitated lead salt is filtered off by vacuum filtration and washed with water and acetone. 43 g of the lead salt of bis- (carboxymethoxy) -S-isobutylmercaptobenzene are thus obtained, which melts and decomposes at 168-172 C. This lead salt is suspended in 250 cm3 of hot ethanol and the mixture is passed through a stream of hydrogen sulfide in the suspension until no more precipitate occurs.
The lead sulfide is separated by vacuum filtration, extracted with 150 cm3 of hot ethanol and the combined ethanolic filtrates evaporated. The residue is in the form of a viscous yellow oil, which soon crystallizes. By recrystallization from water, pure bis- (carboxymethoxy) -S-isobutylmercaptobenzene is obtained, melting at 131-133 ° C. in an amount of 12.6 g, which corresponds to a yield of 48.5% of the mixture. theory. The new carboxylic ether forms small prisms which dissolve easily when cold in methanol, ethanol, acetone and in boiling acetic ester. Alkali salts dissolve extremely easily in water and occur in the solid state as a strongly hygroscopic material.
Example 8.
20 g of mercaptoresorcin in a solution of 3.24 g of sodium in 200 cm3 of methanol with 19 g of ethyl chloroacetate and 200 cm3 of dioxane are heated in a steam bath for half an hour. After cooling, the sodium chloride is filtered off, the filtrate is evaporated on a steam bath, the residue is taken up in ether, the ethereal solution washed with sodium bicarbonate solution, dried and evaporated. The residue is purified by high vacuum distillation. 25 g (76% of theory) of S-carbethoxy-methylmercaptoresorcin boiling at 131-132 C under 0.04 mm are obtained. It's a

colorless oil, insoluble in water, soluble in methanol, acetone, dioxane, acetate ester, ether and benzene.
Example 9.
5 g of the ester obtained in Example 8 are heated with 40 cm3 of 0.5N sulfuric acid for 2 hours in a water bath. The clear reaction mixture is mixed with the equivalent amount of barium hydroxide solution, the precipitated barium sulfate is filtered off under vacuum, the filtrate is mixed with an aqueous solution of 8.5 g of lead acetate. crystallized, and separates the crystallized lead salt by vacuum filtration.

indicated by the sulfur content found (S = 7.90%, calculated: 7.93%). It melts at 175-178 C.
The lead salt, suspended in water, is treated with hydrogen sulfide. After removing the lead sulfide, the aqueous filtrate is evaporated to dryness and the residue crystallized from benzene. There is thus obtained 3.1 g (70% of theory) of S-carboxymethylmercaptoresorcine, melting at 99-100 C. The acid is easily soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, acetone, dioxane, acetic ester, ether and sparingly soluble in chloroform and benzene.
