MACHINE SURJETEUSE-RASEUSE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

OVERSIZER-SHAVING MACHINE.
The present invention relates to a serger-shaver machine cutting the fabrics and assembling the edges of the latter by a festton stitch, thus forming an elastic seam.
Machines of this type are known. In the oldest types, the complication of the mechanism leads to manufacturing difficulties - which increase the price of the machine - and inconveniences in use: reduced speed, defective lubrication, etc. more modern, some of these faults have been partially corrected, but could not be entirely, the mechanism still remaining relatively complicated.
The present invention is essentially characterized by the following points:
1. All the controls derive from a single cylindrical shaft on which eccentrics are attached, the greatest eccentricity of which does not exceed 3 mm.
2. All movements are carried below the worktop and lubricated by an oil bath.
3. The movements of all the components are independently adjustable (needle holder, knife holder; the two elements of the fabric conveyor; the two hooks).
It should be noted that all of these arrangements and a judicious reduction in the dimensions of the movable members makes it possible to sew without difficulty at a rate of 6,000 stitches per minute, and in fabrics with a thickness of 8 mm. and more.
The invention will be better understood from the description of an embodiment, given by way of example, with the aid of consideration of the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 is a vertical section of the machine following I - I
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of Figure 2, with some parts removed for clarity.
- Figure 2 is a horizontal section on II - II of Figure 1, with some parts removed.
- Figure 3 is a vertical section along III - III of Figures 1 and 2, with some parts removed.
- Figure 4 is a detail of the fabric conveyor device.
- Figure 5 is a detail of the levers controlling the hooks.
- Figure 6 is a perspective view, purely schematic, of the entire machine
In all these figures, the same organs have received the same designations. The base of the machine is indicated by 1, which is a foundry part closed at the top by cover plates such as 2a, 2b ..... and which laterally comprises inspection doors 2'a, 2'b.
At the same time, this base constitutes a casing where the mechanisms of the machine are immersed in an oil bath. The housing has two cavities, 1a and 1b, connected by a channel. Between these cavities there is a third, lc, a sort of sealed well forbidden to oil, and where the hooks move.
The machine derives all its movements from the main shaft 3, attacked by the pulley 4. This shaft 3 is cylindrical from end to end, except at one end where it carries a plate 3 'which acts as a stop. The various eccentrics that it drives are all mounted in the same way: each has an eccentric nozzle wedged on the shaft by means of screws, which allows the angular offset of the nozzle, and consequently a phase adjustment of the different movements; the eccentric collar is mounted on the eccentric nozzle. None of these eccentrics has an eccentricity greater than 3 mm. Thus the cubits which raise the price of trees are removed.
The oil level in the crankcases substantially reaches the horizontal plane which contains the axis of the main shaft. We will now make a description of the various movements, considered successively:
The fabric is cut by a knife 5 mounted in a knife holder 6. This is in the form of an angled lever pivoting about an axis 7 fixed to the frame of the machine. A link 9 controlled by the eccentric 9 'mounted on the shaft 3 (via a collar 9 ") gives the knife holder the almost vertical reciprocating movement necessary for its operation.
The needle 10 is mounted in a needle holder bar 11 pivoted at 12 in the frame. A connecting rod 13 is articulated in 12 'to the bar, and in 13' to a balance 14 pivoted on the frame and receiving its movement from a connecting rod 15 which moves an eccentric 16. The angular displacement on the shaft 3, of the nozzle of it allows an advance where. a decline in the movement of the needle relative to other organs.
The tissue transporter, which can be seen better in FIG. 4, comprises two completely independent claws, 17 and 18. These claws receive their movement, on the one hand, from a secondary shaft 19 parallel to the main shaft 3. , on the other hand, of eccentric rods 17a and 18a mounted by means of a single nozzle 20 with two eccentric seats, on the shaft 3. The shaft 19 receives an oscillating movement by the crank 21 which the connecting rod 22. The latter is controlled by an eccentric, the nozzle 23 of which allows a double adjustment: on the one hand, an angular adjustment, which defines the phase of the movement; on the other hand, an adjustment, of amplitude, by means of a sliding carriage device 23 ', known per se, which the screw 24 screwed into the collar of the eccentric controls.
Returning to the claws and the movement of the claw doors, it can be seen that the crank 25 which drives the rod 26 articulated to the claw holder 17 '(so-called upper claw) comprises a slide 25'. The displacement in it
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
of the head of the rod 26 adjusts the phase shift of the longitudinal movement of the claw 17 relative to that of the claw 18. In the position shown in FIG. 4, there is no longitudinal phase shift.
In the usual construction of nail holders, these parts are perfectly rigid. When mounted, it is no longer possible to change the inclination of the claws with respect to the work surface. This drawback is avoided with the invention, which provides for an articulated breaking of the rod 26 and of the claw holder 17 '(screw 27). When the assembly is completed and the position of the claw 17 has been well defined, it suffices to tighten this screw 27 to keep the claw in the correct position.
The movement of the hooks derives from the same secondary shaft 28 perpendicular to the main shaft 3 and driven by an eccentric connecting rod 29 mounted thereon, via a crank 29 '. The tree'
28, provided with a helical groove which ensures the transport of the oil, passes through a block 29 from the foundry with the walls of the sealed well lc, so that it does not bring oil into this well . At the end of the shaft 28 is mounted (see Figure 5) a crank 40 driving two levers, 30 and 31. The lever 30 attacks the crank 32 wedged on the small shaft 33, and the lever
31 attacks the crank 34 wedged on the small shaft 35.
On trees 33 and
35, respectively, and in the sealed well lc, are mounted, by screw clamps which allow any desirable adjustment, - and this in complete independence -, the rods 36 and 37 which carry the hooks 38 and 39. As in the machines known, the hooks can be moved in their hook holders, but the device according to the invention allows much more flexible adjustment since it makes it possible to choose for each hook its plan of action, and in this plane, the inclination of the hook to the horizontal.
Finally, the presser foot 41 is of the horizontal type, with double articulation, with spring pressing piston, 42, and the dimensions of its different parts are such that it is possible to sew fabrics of 8 mm. thickness without changing the settings that control the piston spring.
