ROBINET MELANGEUR.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
La fig. 1 est une coupe axiale du robinet mélangeur;
La fig. 2 est une coupe transversale suivant la ligne II-II de la fige l;
La fig. 3 est une coupe axiale partielle suivant la ligne IIIIII de la fig. 1;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
comme la génératrice W de la fig. 4.

MIXER TAP.
It is known that to achieve a mixture of hot and cold water in the same pipe, in the pipe of a shower unit 'for example, taps or mixing devices are used in which the cold water pipe and that of hot water, and from which the mixed water pipe leaves. The mixer taps known hitherto only provide a non-adjustable mixed water flow rate, this flow rate being a function of the quantities of hot and cold water admitted for mixing.
It is true that a mixed water flow adjustment system, for example an ordinary tap, can be added to the mixing tap on the mixed water pipe, but then the user must carry out two adjustment operations (mixing and flow) by operating two separate devices, which is impractical in shower installations in particular.
This is why the present invention relates to an improved mixing valve which makes it possible to regulate both the mixing of two fluids, and the flow rate of the mixture by means of a single operating member.
This mixing valve is characterized in that it comprises a hollow body capable of being connected on the one hand to inlet conduits for the fluids to be mixed and on the other hand to a flow conduit for the mixture of fluids, valves controlling the arrival and flow of fluids to be mixed, a control member of these valves mounted to slide and rotate in said hollow body, the 'sliding of said control member having the effect of simultaneously actuating the valves without causing significantly vary the ratio of the flow rates allowed by the latter, the rotation of the same control member having the effect of varying continuously.le ratio of the flow rates allowed by the valves.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The valve control member is preferably formed by a rod carrying a frustoconical ramp substantially of revolution having its axis inclined relative to the direction of sliding of the rod.
The valve control member preferably acts on the valves by means of articulated members on the base of the hollow body of the valve.
Preferably, a braking member hinders the free sliding of the valve control member to prevent spontaneous sliding of the latter under the effect of the pressure on it of the articulated members pushed by the valves subjected to the simple pressure of the valve. 'water.
According to a preferred embodiment of the device, the valve control member is itself actuated by means of an operating lever which controls both its sliding and its pivoting, said operating lever being articulated on the member. valve control and resting inside a circular rim centered around the axis of rotation of said valve control member.
A preferred embodiment of a valve according to the invention has been described below purely as an indication and in no way limiting with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is an axial section of the mixing valve;
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on line II-II of figure 1;
Fig. 3 is a partial axial section taken on line IIIIII of FIG. 1;
Fig. 4 is an explanatory diagram of the geometric shape of the frustoconical ramp controlling the opening of the valves.
The mixing valve shown in the drawing comprises a hollow body 1 having internally a coaxial circular chamber 2 into which open through cylindrical channels 3, two diametrically opposed pipes 4 and to which are respectively fixed the cold water inlet pipes F, to left and G hot water on the right. The chamber 2 is closed at its lower part by a base 6 screwed into a thread 8 provided for this purpose in the lower part of the body 1. The seal is ensured by means of an annular seal 9 interposed between said base 6 and said body 1 and housed in an annular groove 10 provided in the lower part of the body 1.
The chamber 2 is also provided with: a flow pipe 11 arranged at right angles to the two pipes 4.
In the cylindrical channels 3 are slidably mounted valves 12, the body of which has a cross-section in the form of a cross. These valves have a head 13 provided with a cylindrical extension 14 of short length. An annular seal 16 surrounds the end of the body of the valve 12 in the immediate vicinity of the head 13. A coil spring 17 surrounding the cylindrical prolongation 14 bears on the one hand on the head 13 of the valve and on the other hand on a recess 18 of an annular part 19 screwed into the end of the pipe 4. In the chamber 2, the upper face of the base 6 bears opposite the channels 3, two parts 21 on each of which is articulated around a pivot 22 a yoke 23 having a domed portion 24 facing the valve 12 and carrying, on the side opposite to the valve, a roller 26.
The domed portion 23 forms a cam to cooperate with the curved profiles 27 of the end of the valve 12, which is cross-shaped.
The base 6 is provided with an axial cylindrical cavity-2 $, while the upper partition 29 of the chamber 2 is pierced with an axial cylindrical opening 30. In the axial cavity 28 and the axial opening 30 is mounted at sliding and pivoting a rod 31 carrying a frustoconical ramp 33.
This ramp has a lateral surface which is, not a portion of a cone of revolution, but a portion of a cone which is defined geometrically as follows:
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
We consider the torus T generated by the rotation of the rollers = .26, around the geometric axis X-Y of the chamber 2, the rollers 2 '6 * being in the position shown in FIG. 1 and in which the curved portions 24 of the yokes 23 bear on the profiles 27 of the valves 12, 'these ,; last being in the fully closed position. We lead a tangent U to the torus T ,, parallel to the X-Y axis (see fig. 4).
In the diametral plane of the tangent U, one leads a tangent W forming with U an angle A which, in the embodiment shown in the drawing, is 45. The meeting point S of U and W is the apex of the cone, the generatrices of which are the set of straight lines passing through S and tangent internally to the tore T.
The frustoconical ramp 33 is a portion of the cone lying between two planes perpendicular to the geometric axis X-Y. The rod 31 carrying the ramp 33 is provided at its lower part with grooves 34, in order to allow, when it is inserted into the cavity 28, the evacuation of the water which is contained in this cavity. The axial opening 30 of the upper partition 29 is provided with an annular seal 35 which tightly surrounds the sliding rod 31. In addition, a collar 36, provided with inclined radial blades 37 arranged along a trunk of cone around the rod 31, is fixed to this partition 29 by screws 38 and completely surrounds the rod 31. The inclined blades 37 do not oppose any resistance to the downward movement of the rod 31, but exert a braking effect. elsewhere surmountable, during the upward movement of the rod 31.
The latter is also provided with a shoulder
39 which limits its sliding upwards.
Above the partition 29, the body 1 of the valve is surmounted by a rim 41 comprising a cylindrical part 42 and an annular part. 43 surrounding the rod 31 at a certain distance therefrom. At the upper part of the rod 31 is articulated around a pivot 44 a control lever 46, of curved shape. This lever 46 is extended below the pivot 44 by a round end 47 which is both in contact with the upper face 48 of the partition 29 and with the lower face 49 of the annular part 43 of the rim 41.
The body 1 is surmounted at its upper part by a cover 51, having the general shape of a spherical cap. This cover is screwed around a thread 52 provided for this purpose on the body 1, and it is pierced with an axial opening 53 just equal, with a small clearance, to the section of the lever 46 in its curved part. This curved part 54 of the lever 46 which enters and leaves the cover 51 through the opening 53 when this lever is raised and lowered is in the form of a torus portion, in order to exactly fill the opening 53, whatever the inclination. that we give to said leverage.
Two screws 56 and 57, screwed through the cylindrical part 42 of the rim 41, serve as a stop for the rounded part 47 of the lever 46 to limit the rotational movement of said lever 46 around the geometric axis XY of the chamber 2 and of the body 1.
The valve which has just been described operates as follows: When the lever 46 is lowered into the position shown in solid lines in FIG. 1, the frustoconical ramp 33 is above the rollers 26 of the yokes 23. @ The springs 17 of the valves 12 press on the heads 13 and the seals 16 of these valves against the edges of the cylindrical channels 3, which are thus closed. The terminal profiles 27 of the valves 12, resting on the curved parts 24 of the yokes 23, keep the latter pushed back towards the center of the chamber 2. The frustoconical ramp 33, which is then above the rollers 26 (see fig. 1). does not prevent the yokes 23 from taking the positions which have just been defined.
If we now lift the lever 46 to make it take the position 46a indicated in phantom in FIG. 1, the round end 47 of this lever bears on the lower face "49 of the rim 43, while the toric portion 54 of this lever penetrates into the upper orifice 53 of the cap 51. In this movement, the pivot 44 lowers and slides the rod 31. The water contained in the cavity 28 rises through the grooves 34 @
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
as the rod 31 sinks into this cavity, and does not prevent the downward movement of this rod. In this downward movement, -the frustoconical ramp 33 presses on the roller 26 of the yoke 23 which is on the right half of FIG. 1, and pivot this yoke 23 to the right.
The domed portion 24 of this yoke pushes the corresponding valve 12 against the spring 17. This valve opens. The hot water coming from the pipe G enters through the right pipe into the chamber 2 of the tap, to then flow through the pipe 11. 'But in the downward movement of the rod 31, the ramp 33 simply slipped the along the roller 26 of the yoke 23 located in the left half of f ig. l, without pushing this roller to the left, so that the valve 12 on the left remains closed. It does not enter cold water into body 2, and only hot water flows through tubing 11.
If now, the lever 46 of 1800 is rotated around the geometric axis X-Y of the valve, so as to bring it into the position symmetrical with respect to said axis of that indicated in phantom in FIG. 1, the ramp 33 pushes back the left valve and allows the right one to close. Only the cold water then enters the body 2 and flows through the tube 11.
During the rotational movement mentioned above, the right valve gradually closes and the left valve gradually opens, by the effect of the rotation of the ramp 33 which then acts as a cam on the parts 24 of the yokes 23. If we stop the lever 46 in an intermediate position, we enter into the chamber 2 and flow through the pipe 11 a mixture of cold water and hot water, which is all the richer in hot water. that the orientation of the lever 46 is closer to the starting one. It is therefore possible, by choosing a suitable orientation of the lever 46 about the X-Y axis, to adjust the temperature of the water flowing through the pipe 11 as desired.
The two screws 56 and 57 forming stops for the extension 47 of the lever 46 in the rotational movement of the latter are arranged so that the possible angle of displacement of said lever is just equal to 180, the water positions quite hot and quite cold water being located towards the ends of the angular displacement zone.
Whatever the orientation of the lever 46 around the XY axis, this lever can be lowered at will to reduce or even completely stop the flow of the mixture, and it can be raised to reopen the flow or to increase the flow, these decreases and increases in flow being caused by the rise or fall of the tapered ramp 33.
It should be noted that the upward movement of the rod 31 is slowed down by the inclined radial blades 37, this braking being insufficient to prevent manual control of the lever, but sufficient to prevent any upward movement which would be caused by the pressure. on the ramp 33 rollers 26 pushed by the valves 12 subjected to the simple pressure of water.
The same lever 46 therefore makes it possible to adjust both the temperature and the flow rate of the water flowing from the tap through the pipe 11. The tap according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable for controlling shower devices, but of course, in the context of the invention, it can be used to control the flow of a mixture of two liquids. any, and even any two gases.
It goes without saying that it would not be departing from the scope of the present invention to change non-essential details of the device described above for information only. Thus, for example, the frustoconical ramp 33 can be replaced by a ramp of a shape similar to that geometrically defined above. It can be replaced, for example, by a cone of revolution whose axis obliquely meets the XY axis of the valve, one of the two generatrices contained in the plane common to these two axes being parallel to the XY axis and tangent to the torus T as the generator U of FIG. 4, the other generator of the same plane being oblique and tangent to the torus T
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
like the generator W of FIG. 4. The value of the angle at the top of the cone may not be equal to 45, but a little different.
The inclined blades 37 serving to slow the rise of the rod 31 could be replaced, within the framework of the present invention, by any other member or device producing a similar result.
CLAIMS. l) - A mixing valve for adjusting both the mixture of two fluids and the flow of the mixture by means of a single operating member, characterized in that it comprises a hollow body capable of being connected with a on the one hand to inlet conduits for the fluids to be mixed and on the other hand to a flow conduit for the mixture of fluids, valves controlling the arrival and flow of the fluids to be mixed, a control member of these valves mounted on sliding and rotating in said hollow body, the sliding of said control member having the effect of simultaneously actuating the valves without substantially varying the ratio of the flow rates permitted by the latter, the rotation of the same said control member having the effect of making continuously vary the ratio of the flow rates allowed by the valves.
