<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

PREPARATION OF LACQUERS AND FLUORESCENT COMPOSITIONS FOR APPLICATIONS
VARIOUS AND ESPECIALLY LUMINOUS PAINTS AND INKS.
The object of the present invention is to describe the process for manufacturing powders or lacquers in their possible applications and in particular that of paints.
The applicant has found that it is possible to obtain lacquers and compositions which are particularly fluorescent in daylight and in black light, comprising a resin and a filler combined with a dye which is fluorescent in nature or made fluorescent by means of. of a fluorescent element.
The resins contained in the lakes forming the subject of the present invention can belong to very diverse groups: urea-formaldehyde resins, phenol-formaldehyde resins, aniline-formalin-melamine-formalin, etc.
The filler is a very low density magnesium salt.
In addition to its physical characteristics with respect to ultraviolet rays, this body has the power to facilitate the diffusion of the lacquer when it is used in the manufacture of paints.
In addition, this filler promotes the grinding of the lacquer and confers on the pigments obtained properties allowing them new applications.
The dyes contained in the lacquers and compositions of the present invention belong to very diverse groups of dyes, preferably water-soluble, basic dyes, acid dyes, etc., and even water-insoluble dyes such as colorants for washing. dyeing of cellulose acetate.
The fluorescent elements possibly present in the lacquers in accordance with the invention are in particular certain metal sulphides or certain diamino-stilbene derivatives themselves endowed with a fluorescence ranging from pure white to blue whites, and blue-violet and even. to white-pink.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
These compounds are able to impart their own fluorescence to lakes, which, moreover, comprise only a resin and a filler combined with a non-fluorescent dye.
In the field of fluorescent compositions, fluorescent pigments are obtained in which the fluorescent dye is diluted with a thermosetting resin, such as urea formaldehyde resin.
The resin is loaded with dye in a generally non-aqueous solvent medium, and its polymerization is obtained under the effect of heat. However, in the case of these pigments, the resin is inert with respect to the dye, whereas, on the contrary, in the case of lacquers, there is interaction between the resin and the dye. In addition, the lacquers of the invention are opaque and matt.
These fluorescent lacquers have the following advantages: a) Ease of manufacture, b) Greater light intensity in daylight, c) More intense fluorescence in black light, d) Very low density and possibility of very fine spraying, e) Better lightfastness, f) Wider applications, g) Unmatched velvety.
The invention also extends as new industrial products to the various compositions characterized in that they comprise lacquers in accordance with those forming the subject of the present invention.
The invention also extends to the process for preparing fluorescent products and compositions containing such lacquers.
Process characterized in that precipitated by ammonium chloride among others, at ordinary temperature (20 C), a mixture comprising a resin., A filler, a dye, and, where appropriate, a fluorescent element in solution aqueous or fluorescent element.
The precipitate obtained is washed with water, neutralized with an amine, filtered, drained and dried at low temperature 30 G maximum.
The resins can be used in their most diverse degree of condensation, from the water soluble state to the insoluble state.
Their consistency may vary from viscous to gummy or solid.
It is essential to proceed, not at a high temperature, but at ordinary temperature, to obtain a very fine lacquer which is easily sprayed, according to specially studied processes.
The following examples are intended to illustrate in particular the implementation of the process of the present invention without limiting the latter in any way.
Example I - a) 100 g of a urea-formaldehyde resin are dissolved in 200 cc of boiling water. Heated until complete dissolution.
B 100 g of magnesium oxide are placed in 100 cc of cold water. c) 0.05 of 4.4 '(bis) 2 oxy-4-phenylamine 1-3-5 triazyl - (6) - diamino-stilbene-disulfonic acid is dissolved. (fluorescent element) and Og, 25 of the dye No. 770 by G. Schultz corresponding to the formula:

in 100cc of boiling water. Heated until complete dissolution.
The solutions a are mixed. b. vs. and let cool to about 20 c.
20 g of ammonium chloride dissolved in 75 cc of lukewarm water are added with vigorous stirring.
The precipitate forms slowly and stirring is continued for about half an hour.
The precipitate is left to settle at the bottom of the container, the water is very clear and does not contain more than 15% of the dye used.
This water is poured gently in order to keep only the precipitate.
The precipitate is washed with water by decantation, three times in a row.
Neutralize with this diethylamine.
It is filtered and rinsed on a filter with deionized water. It is dried at low temperature.
After drying, it is ground in a hammer mill, pu% in a ball mill.
The lacquer obtained is blue.

<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The precipitate forms quickly and stirring is continued for a few minutes,
A beautiful red lacquer is obtained which is then treated as in example I
The present invention also extends to all the applications of the lacquers in accordance with those forming the subject of the present invention and to the compositions containing such lacquers.
It extends in particular to products resulting from a dispersion or diffusion of these lacquers in the most diverse media as well as to products resulting from coating on a specially prepared support.
By way of example of products resulting from the dispersion of these lacquers, mention will in particular be made of fluorescent paints and enamels.
The fluorescent paints and enamels prepared with these lacquers are distinguished by their particularly vivid colors in daylight and black light, and their remarkable applications with brush and spray. They do not deposit like known similar looking products,
These lacquers, in fact, are possible to spray themselves so finely that they seem to form almost solutions with the appropriate binders. In addition, they are opaque and matt.
The preparation of a paint based on acrylic resin is thus held thanks to the process that we claim.
Acrylic resin 50 g
Toluene 90 g
Gyclohexanone 10 g
Butyl phthalate 5 g lake obtained according to Example I: 50 g
The resulting mixture is suitably ground in a specially designed grinder.
This paint can optionally be diluted with the following preparation: Toluene 75 g
Tetralin 25 g
This gives a very bright paint in daylight and black light while being very resistant to the exterior.
The lacquers of the invention, thanks to their special properties and, in particular their extreme fineness, make it possible to manufacture printing inks and writing or pad inks which no fluorescent pigment known to date does not allow.
A fluorescent yellow printing ink is prepared by grinding in devices specially designed for this purpose.
Fluorescent pigment 400 g
Vaseline oil 400 g
Special printing standole 200 g
These fluorescent printing inks can be manufactured for letterpress, litho, offset or gravure.
These lacquers and compositions also make it possible to prepare fluorescent nail varnishes in levels impossible to achieve previously.
20% nitrocellulose collodion 50 g
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Vinyl resin in 20% ethyl acetate solution 50 g
Butyl acetate 50 g
Red lacquer of example II 25 g
The compositions of the invention also make it possible to prepare writing inks or fluorescent pad inks.
By way of example resulting from a coating, mention will be made of textile papers and adhesive supports comprising the spraying of a mixture of these lacquers and of acetate or viscose powders by the so-called flocking process.
It is also possible to color plastics, plasticized or not, provided that these materials are well permeable to ultraviolet rays. The fusion coloring processes well known to this industry apply to the lakes of the present invention.
