 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Fig. 3 en est une vue par en-dessous;

   1, prise de côté;
Fig. 5 est une vue en coupe partielle par V-V de fig. 4 (le levier 30 étant supposé soulevé); cett- vue montrant le système d'enclenchement de deux doigts opposés et étant applicable à tous les autres jeux de doigts d'enclenchement ;
Fig. 6 est une vue en coupe partielle par VI-VI de fige 4;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

   Enfin le moyeu 33 porte un ergot 48 qui peut venir en contact avec un ergot 49 porté par le moyeu   38;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

  IMPROVEMENTS IN THREADING MACHINES.

   The present invention relates to tool-threading machines comprising a process of operations analogous to that of an automatic or semi-automatic parallel lathe which executes the threading in successive passes reproducing a predetermined number of times; number of passes at the end of which the machine stops automatically, the various components returning by themselves to their starting position.

   It relates particularly to tool-threading machines in which the progressive advance of the tool-holder carriage is obtained by means of a cam, the rotation of which is caused by a ratchet mechanism.

   Hitherto such multi-pass machines have performed threading entirely with a single tool, but it has been found, in accordance with the present invention, that it would be advantageous to remove most of the metal first. workpiece by using a first roughing tool for a relatively large number of passes, then, with the machine stopped or the roughing tool released to allow tool substitution, to give the thread profile its exact shape using a finishing tool during the number of passes remaining.

   The debauchery tool may be more robust in shape than the finishing tool, which gives it a longer life.

   The present invention also relates to a mechanism making it possible to perform two series of passes successively, in the desired number each time: a series of roughing passes followed by a first stop of the machine or simply of the maintenance of the tool. roughing in the cleared position with interruption of its progressive penetration, and a series of finishing passes followed by stopping the machine and returning to the initial position.

   This mechanism is essentially characterized by two discs, the angular position of which can be determined at will on an axis which them.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 drives in rotation, and which carries the ratchet wheel, of the ratchet mechanism of the machine cam, for example, or of any other member causing the progressive advance of the tool-holder carriage.

     Mon. of these discs can cause, after a certain number of passes (roughing passes), the triggering of a first trigger mechanism, the effect of which is either to stop the machine or to interrupt the transverse movements of the roughing tool while maintaining it in the released position by means of any suitable transmission (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic).

   The second disc can cause, after a certain number of passes (finishing passes), the triggering of a second trigger mechanism, the effect of which is: on the one hand to stop the machine by acting by any transmission (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic) on the machine motor clutch mechanism, and on the other hand to cause the return to the initial position of the ratchet mechanism for progressive advance of the tool, by moving away the pawls of this redemption wheel mechanism.

   Each trigger mechanism is constituted by a pivoted lever provided with one or more fingers from hooking the corresponding finger or fingers of a rotary member. Spring loaded or by a pressurized fluid cylinder in a direction such that, when the lever is lifted to spread the fingers in contact with the rotating member thus released is set in motion, the energy of the spring or of the pressurized fluid being used to produce the desired effect.

   In a first exemplary embodiment, the first trigger mechanism causes the rotation of an axis producing the disengagement and stopping of the machine, while the second trigger mechanism causes: on the one hand the rotation of the same aforementioned axis producing the disengagement, and on the other hand the rotation of a member separating the pawls of the drive ratchet wheel of the progressive advance mechanism of the tool so that this ratchet wheel returns to its initial position under the action of a return spring or a cylinder.

   In a second embodiment, the first trigger mechanism causes the rotation of an axis producing the stop in the disengaged position of the transverse control mechanism of the tool, by acting on the pressurized fluid distributors, which control, 'one the reciprocating movement of penetration and retreat of this tool, and the other the progressive advance of the latter. The second trigger mechanism causes the rotation of a member separating the pawls of the drive ratchet wheel of the progressive advance mechanism of the tool and on the other hand, producing the disengagement and stopping of the machine. by means of an appropriate transmission (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic).

   The member secured to the axis released by the first trigger mechanism may include a special finger which, when the operator acts in the opposite direction to the trigger movement and causes this member to be driven a little beyond its position. primitive engagement, hooks with a corresponding finger carried by the aforementioned second pivoted lever actuated by the second disc; this .between the roughing and finishing passes ..

   The two pivoted levers actuated by the two aforementioned discs can be coaxial.

   Likewise, the rotary members released by these two pivoted levers can be coaxial.

   The pawl spacer can be constituted by a rotating hub bearing a boss with adjustable screw abutting against the retaining ratchet of the ratchet mechanism, and moving this retaining pawl apart which in turn moves the drive pawl away from it. this mechanism.

   In the accompanying drawings, there is shown, by way of nonlimiting examples, two embodiments of the mechanism, constituting one of the objects of the invention.

Fig. 6 is a partial sectional view through VI-VI of fig 4;
Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a variant of the lower part of the mechanism, in the case of a machine with hydraulic controls.

   1 is the axis which drives, via the toothed pinion 2 and the toothed sector 3, the axis 4 carrying the variable cam device 5 acting via the pusher 6 on the tool (not shown) .

   The axis 1 carries a ratchet wheel 7 actuated by a pawl 8, pivoted at 9 on a sliding strip 10 animated by a reciprocating back-and-forth movement under the action of a command from the shaft wearing the footsteps cam. It is the wheel retaining pawl 7, the axis 12 of which is integral with the frame of the machine.

   13 and 14 are the roller bearings in which the axes 1 and 4 rotate.

   On the shaft 1 are mounted two discs 15 and 16 each carrying a heel 17-18 on their periphery. The relative position of these discs with respect to the shaft 1 can be adjusted at will. For this purpose, the disc 15 carries a graduation 19 and the hub 16 'of the disc 16 a mark 20 allowing the disc 15 to be suitably positioned angularly relative to the disc 16 according to the number of finishing passes chosen; each division of the graduation 19 corresponding to a pass.

   On the other hand, the hub 16 'of the disc 16 bears a graduation 21 and the axis 1 bears a mark 22 allowing the disc 16 to be suitably positioned angularly with respect to the axis 1 so as to obtain the total number of passes (blank more finish) desired; each division of the graduation 21 corresponding to one pass.

   When these positions have been carried out, the disc 16 can be wedged on the shaft 1 using the knurled nut 23. and the disc 15 on the disc 16 using the nuts 24 on which the disc 15 slides using the grooves 25.

   The disc 15 actuates a lever 26, when its heel 17 comes into contact with the end 26 'of this lever pivoted about the axis 27. The other branch 26 "of the lever 26 is normally brought into contact by a spring 28. with a lug 29 carried by another lever 30 pivoted about the same axis 27.

  The actuation of the lever 26 by the tàlon 17 of the disc 15 causes the rotation of the lever 30. The latter carries a finger 31 which retains in normal position the finger 32 of a hub 33 integral with the axis 34 which controls the disengagement. and stopping the machine by any suitable transmission not forming part of the invention.

   The heel 18 of the disc 16 is of such width and arranged such that it can simultaneously drive in rotation around the axis 27 the lever 26 and a lever 35, when it strikes the ends 26 'and 35' of these last two levers. The other branch 35 "of the lever 35 carries a finger 36, similar to the finger 31, and which retains in the normal position the finger 37 carried by a hub 38 freely pivoting about the axis 34.

   This hub 38

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 carries a boss 39 provided with an adjustable screw 40. When the lever 35 is actuated by the heel 18 of the disc 16, the hub 38 is released by the release of the fingers 36-37, and under the action of a spring 41 , it is driven in rotation until the adjustable screw 40 of the boss 39 hits the end 11 'of the retaining pawl 11 and disengages the latter from the ratchet wheel 7. The pawl 11 also then lifts, thanks to a set of bosses 42-43, the pawl 8 for actuating this wheel 7 which is thus completely released. The toothed sector 3 for driving the variable cam 5 is then returned by a spring 44 to its starting position.

   The lever 35 has a second finger 45, normally pushed back by a spring 46 and which can catch on a second finger 47 carried by the hub 33; finger 45 is slightly offset from finger 36.

   Finally, the hub 33 carries a lug 48 which can come into contact with a lug 49 carried by the hub 38;
The levers 26, 30 and 35 are provided with springs 28, 50 and 51.

   The operation of the device is as follows:
The disc 15, acting only through the lever 26 on the disengagement of the machine via the axis 34, makes it possible to stop the machine after a predetermined number of passes without causing the return to its initial position of the variable cam 5. On the contrary, the disc 16, acting both on the levers 26 and 35, simultaneously causes the stopping of the machine via the axis 34 and the return to the initial position of the cam variable 5 via the released hub 38: that is to say - then the machine is prepared for the execution of a new threading.

   It can therefore be seen that, by a suitable relative positioning of the discs 15 and 16 obtained thanks to the graduations 19 and 21 and to the marks 20 and 22 as well as to the wedging devices of the aforementioned discs, it is possible to cause a first stop of the machine by the disc 15 before the complete number of passes necessary to perform the threading is performed, this first series of passes can be used advantageously to roughen the thread with a suitable tool. The remaining passes will be used to finish the thread with a second tool, the substitution of the finishing tool for the roughing tool can be done either by hand or automatically, by any suitable device that is not part of the invention.

   If it is assumed that the machine has just completed a part, the pawls 11 and 8 have been raised by the pressure of the adjustable screw 40 of the boss 39 of the hub 38 under the action of the spring 41 on the end 11 'of the pawl 11; the means 33, under the action of a disengagement spring (not shown) has turned in the direction of arrow F by a fraction of a turn, causing the disengagement of the machine. -And the shaft 1 has returned to its starting position under the action of the spring 44 of the toothed sector 3 of the variable cam 5, by means of the couple: toothed sector 3 - toothed pinion 2.

   When the operator wants to start the machine again, he acts, by means of means not shown on the axis 34 which he rotates so as to cause a movement, in the opposite direction of the arrow "F" of the hub 33, until the finger 32 of this hub catches on the finger 31 of the lever 30. This rotational movement drives that of the hub 38 via the lugs 48 and 49 causes the catch of this hub 38 by its finger 37 on the finger 36 of the lever 35; this movement also producing the tensioning of the spring 41 and the release of the pawls 11 and 8, which thus again come into contact with the ratchet wheel 7.

   Each pass corresponds to a back and forth movement of the pawl 8 and consequently an advance of a tooth of the ratchet wheel 7.

   When the desired number of roughing passes (total number of passes minus the number of finishing passes) has been completed, heel 17 of disc 15 contacts lever 26 and causes the stop to stop.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 machine, by means of lever 30, fingers 31 and 32 which engage, and hub 33 which rotates in the direction of arrow F, causing the machine to disengage.

   The operator then causes the tools to be replaced and re-engages the machine. The hub 38 @ not moved, this last maneuver only causes the rotation of the hub 3 in the opposite direction to the arrow F, since the two pins 48 and 49 are then far from each other. However, with the lever 30 raised, the fingers 31 and 32 can no longer come into contact.

   It takes a slight additional rotation of the hub 33 so that its finger 47 hooks the finger 45 of the lever 35 in the opposite direction of the arrow "F".

   The machine then executes the number of finishing passes chosen, corresponding to the agular spacing of the heels 17 of the disc 15 and 18 of the disc 16.

   When the heel 18 comes into contact with the end 33 'of the lever 35, it causes: one by :. by means of the lever 30 and of the hub 33 rotated in the direction of the arrow "F", the disengagement of the machine as indicated above, I on the other hand, by means of the lever 35, of the hub 38 (released and set in rotation by its spring 41) and of the adjustable screw 40 of the latter, the lifting of the pawls 11 and 8 and consequently the return to the initial position of the variable cam 5 as indicated the same above.

   In fig. 7 shows the lower part of a portion of the mechanism shown in fig, 1 to 6.

   In this variant, there is the axis 34 on which the hub 33 is wedged, and the hub 38 freely pivoted about this axis. But, here, the hub 38 is extended by a tubular axis 52 surrounding the axis 34 and passing through a bearing 53. This tubular axis 52 carries a lever 54 which actuates the disengagement and the stopping of the machine via the intermediary. of any hydraulic transmission such as 55, or electric.

   The axis 34, extended downwards carries a lever 56 which actuates a hydraulic control valve 57 cutting off the admission of pressurized fluid to the cylinder which produces the reciprocating movement of penetrating and receding of the tool and to the control cylinder of the ratchet mechanism giving the progressive advance of the tool. These cylinders are then placed in communication with a fluid reservoir, and the tool-holder carriage is pushed back into the released position by its return device.

   The lever 56 can be extended to 56 ', and, by acting on this lever extended to 56' in the direction of the arrow, the mechanism can be reset.
