<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 et 2 représentent chacune une vue en plan de la base et une coupe d'un écrou conforme à l'invention, dont la denture est pratiquée respectivement à l'intérieur et à l'extérieur;
Fig. 3 à 8 représentent diverses réalisations de rondelles;
Fig. 9 représente un assemblage réalisé conformément à l'in- vention.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

IMPROVEMENT WITH INDESSERABLE NUTS.
Until now, given their real lack of safety and the impossibility of disassembling them for later reuse, no lock nut has been able to be imposed.
The lock-in nut according to the invention is foolproof and in certain cases, depending on the use, can be removed in order to be then reused. This is achieved while not deforming either the shank of the bolt, screw or other fastener, or the nut.
This nut must be mounted on a bolt rod, screw or any other fastening member whose square head, hammer head, etc., is previously stationary in its location.
The nut forming the subject of the invention has towards its base, preferably widened, an internal or external annular toothing or unevenness or notches capable of forming a ratchet for one or more ratchet blades carried by a washer interposed between the said nut and the parts to be assembled.
The washers may be stamped out of. sheet metal or made from coiled spring steel.
If the nut must be able to be loosened, washers with folding lugs will be used on the part to be assembled and which, cut or sawn, will allow easy loosening of the nut. It will then suffice when reusing this nut to replace the washer. In the event that the nut must never be loosened, washers with external or internal cut-outs will be used, holding them respectively against the part to be assembled or against the rod, washers fixed to the rod by welding or by a lug, etc.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example only a few embodiments of the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 1 and 2 each show a plan view of the base and a section of a nut according to the invention, the teeth of which are provided on the inside and the outside respectively;
Fig. 3 to 8 represent various embodiments of washers;
Fig. 9 shows an assembly produced in accordance with the invention.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the nut 1 has an enlarged base 2, into which the threaded hole 3 corresponding to the thread of the bolt or of any other member to be immobilized ends at a certain height. At the point where the threaded hole 3 opens into the base 2, the latter is provided internally with a projecting annular toothing 4. under a certain inclination, above the bearing surface of the nut, so as to be able to snap into place.
One could imagine, as shown in Fig. 2, to place this annular toothing 4 on the outside of the base 2 of the nut 1. Moreover, in either case, this toothing can be replaced by curved surfaces, unevenness or even notches. capable of constituting the ratchet wheel of the ratchet.
In this case, the nut 1 is prevented from turning by a lock washer which is mounted on the shank of the bolt between the nut and the part to be assembled. This washer can have various shapes depending on whether or not it is envisaged to have to disassemble the assembly; some of these shapes are shown at 5.6 .......... 10 in Fig. 3 to 8.
In general, these washers, pierced with a central hole 11 corresponding to the outside diameter of the shank of the bolt, are split diametrically at 12 so as to constitute two strips 13 and 14 which are more less elastic or flexible, so that the One, for example the sipe 14, moves in height of the sipe 13, the washer thus presenting itself with a certain crown. In addition, circularly around the central hole 11, are partially cut in the washers one or more blades 15 capable of forming a pawl at their free end.
If, for example, the two flanges 16 and 17 of lesser thickness of any two parts are to be assembled by means of a non-detachable bolt, one immobilizes .. see Fig. 9, the head 18 of bolt 19 in the thickness of the lower flange 16 and a washer such as 5 is mounted on the projecting threaded end of the bolt, which will have been cut off on the free side of its strips 13 and 14 so in forming a cutaway 20 which comes to rest against the upper projection formed by the upper part to be assembled.
The nut 1 is then screwed onto the bolt by exerting pressure on the washer 5, of which the blades 13 and 14 are forced to flatten as they approach each other, while the ratchet-shaped projection of the blade 15 comes into contact with the internal toothing 4 of the nut 1 allowing the latter to rotate in the tightening direction and preventing it from rotating in the opposite direction.
The same result would be obtained by associating with the nut, instead of a washer 5, a washer 7 also comprising a flat part or cutaway 20. All the washers are obtained economically by stamping or.- as in the case of washer 7 (Fig. 5), formed by a coil of a spring.
If the nut has to be loosened, one of the washers 8 or 9 will be used, which have tabs 21 (which normally are bent and pressed against the parts to be assembled) and can be broken, cut.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
swords or sawn. It will be noted that in these washers, which comprise several ratchet blades 15, the free edges of these do not coincide diametrically, from which it follows that one or the other of these blades is always in contact with the bottom. toothing of the nut.
Moreover, the safety will be all the greater as the number of teeth of this toothing is higher. It will be the same when using with the nut 1 of FIG. 2 with external teeth the washer 6 which, as shown in FIG. 4, comprises a ratchet blade 22 cut out on the outside and projecting out of the nut so that it can be broken.
Another embodiment is further shown in FIG.
8, where we see an unsplit washer 10 provided with two ratchet blades
23 directed vertically in opposite directions to each other, in that one protrudes upwards to engage the nut, while the other, facing downwards, engages cutouts 24 made in a second washer 25 welded or integral with the part to be assembled, or else in notches made in the part to be assembled itself, thus forming a pawl.
It is easily understood that the safety washer can be immobilized in different ways and by connecting it in any known manner to the actual shank of the bolt, for example by means of a lug fitted with said washer and fitting into a longitudinal groove on the surface of the bolt.
In the event that the bolt shank may elongate as a result of expansion, provision is made, in order to keep the nut indelible, to associate a spring washer with the head of the bolt and consequently to increase the fixing seat of the bolt head in the part to be assembled by an angle or rib, etc. adequate.
The locking nuts in accordance with the invention can have, as well as their washers, various embodiments without departing from the scope of the invention.
Their use will ensure, whether in mechanical construction or in the installation of railways, total safety.
