 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   AUTOMATIC HOUSEHOLD BALANCE.

   The present invention relates generally to weighing instruments and more particularly relates to an automatic household scale with direct reading.
This balance is characterized by the interposition, between a fixed support and a plate or equivalent member receiving the load, of a deformable element such as a leaf spring or torsion bar, directly controlling the load or not. balance indicator organ
According to a possible embodiment of the invention * a leaf spring in the form of a half-beam is fixed by one end to the base of the balance and supports the load plate by its other end, a transmission being interposed between a point of this half-flag is the indicator organ of the balance,

     in order to ensure the movement of this indicator member according to the deformation of this spring, consisting of one or more blades
According to another possible embodiment of the invention, the deformable element is constituted by a torsion bar made integral by its two ends with the base of the balance, this torsion bar carrying by its middle part a beam on which is. mounted the load plate A transmission is then interposed between a point of this beam and the indicator member of the balance.

   The load plate is mounted, preferably., On a cross resting on a load axis carried by the leaf spring or the beam. A guiding device of a type known per se is advantageously provided to guide the movement of the plate and the members. associated under the effect of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 charge.

   The indicator system of the balance preferably comprises a graduated dial, advantageously in the form of a sector, in front of which moves a needle made angularly integral with an amplifying member mounted to pivot about a vertical axis and whose rotation is controlled by the deformation of the leaf spring or torsion arm. This amplifying member can be cylindrical, eccentric or elliptical, and the graduations of the dial depend on the shape of this member.

   It is subjected to the stress of a spring or equivalent member, and its rotation is permitted, during weighing, by a flexible wire or cable fixed by one end to a point of the leaf spring or of the beam mounted on the torsion bar, or else on a member integral with these elements, and by its other end at a point on the periphery of the amplifier member., This wire or flexible cable advantageously passes over a return pulley, so as to attack the amplifying member in a horizontal plane, and there is provided a device for adjusting the position of this return pulley allowing the indicator needle of the balance to be brought back to zero graduation before weighing in the event of untimely adjustment.

   The description which will follow, given with reference to the appended drawings given without limitation, will make it possible to better understand the invention.

   Figure 1 is a schematic view, in vertical section, of a possible embodiment of the invention.

   Figo 2 is a corresponding plan view with the load plate assumed to be removed for clarity.

   Figure 3 is a schematic view of a variant, in vertical section.

   Figo 4 is a corresponding plan view without load tray
If we refer to figs. 1 and 2, the automatic balance shown comprises a base 1 to which is fixed by one end, using screws 2, a flexible steel blade 3.of suitable widtho This blade 2. carries towards its other end a load axis /.;, on which rests a cross member 5 surmounted by a load plate 6 intended for the reception of the goods. This cross member 5 is used for the articulation of the plate 6 on the axis of load 4.

   It is carried at its ends by arms 2 directed downwards and articulated by their lower ends on connecting rods or counter-flails 8 pivotally mounted at 9 on legs of the base 1 of the swing The entire blade 3, of the cross member of the arms 2 and of the connecting rods 8 thus form a deformable parallelogram of a type known per se ensuring the guidance of the plate while keeping it substantially horizontal
The deformable blade '2 carries towards its free end an arm 10 whose position relative to this blade is adjustable by means of slots 12 in which can slide screws 11 screwed into the blade 3.

  On the free end of the arm 10 is fixed by one end a very flexible wire 13 passing over a deflection pulley 14 and fixed by its other end to the periphery of a cylindrical amplifying member 15 in the form of a pulley, of which is angularly integral with the needle 16 moving in front of a graduated dial in the form of a sector 17. The amplifier member 15 is mounted on a vertical axis 18 journalled on the base 1 of the balance and carries an eccentric lug 19 on which is hooked by one end a tension spring 20 fixed by its other end at 21 on the base of the balanceo
As seen in fig.

   2, the spring 20 normally tends to move the hand 16 away from the zero graduation of the dial 17, the retention in

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 this zero position being ensured by the flexible wire 13. When a load is applied to the plate 6, this load is transmitted to the steel blade 3, which deforms while moving downwards. transmitted to the flexible wire 13, and by the member 15 to the needle 16, which rotates under the bias of the spring 20. The weight is indicated on the dial 17.

   The graduation of the dial 17 is studied as a function of the shape of the amplifying member 15, depending on whether the latter is cylindrical, eccentric or elliptical for example.

   A device for returning the needle 16 to zero before weighing is provided to compensate for any untimely adjustment. This device is designed, in the case shown, so as to allow adjustment of the position of the return pulley 14, and comprises a lever 22 articulated at 23 on the base 1 of the balance and on which the return pulley 14 is mounted loose. One end 24 of this lever 22 is housed between two stops, the position of which is determined by a setting screw. setting @ 5. This tare device thus makes it possible to lengthen or shorten the path of the thread 13. and consequently to adjust the position of the needle 16.

   The variant shown in Figs 3 and 4 is simply differentiated from the previous embodiment by the substitution of a torsion bar for the deformable blade 3 shown in Figs 1 and 2.
