  PROCEDE POUR LA FABRICATION DE COLORANTS CONTENANT DU CHROME SOLUBLES
DANSL'EAU.

     hexahydrobenzoyl- méthylsulfonyl- ou benzènesulfonylamide ou des groupes uréthaneo On peut également partir de colorantsqui contiennent au moins un groupe amino libre en se trouvant pas en ortho par rapport au groupe azoïque ou azométhinique, et acyler ultérieurement ce groupe amino par des méthodes connues en soi.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF COLORANTS CONTAINING SOLUBLE CHROME
IN WATER.

   It has been found that valuable water-soluble chromium-containing dyes are obtained by treating chromium-containing monoazo or monoazomethin dyes, free from sulfonic diacid groups and containing, per dye molecule, one chromium atom and in addition at least an amide group of sulfonic acids and / or at least one amino group optionally acylated, by solutions of organic compounds :) which are themselves capable of forming complex chromium compounds but which do not constitute dyes and do not contain long chain alkyl radicals followed by acylating any free amino groups presento
As starting dyes, one can consider the complex compounds of chromium 1:

   1 of monoazo or monoazomethine dyes free from dibasic sulphonic groups which comprise :, in position o or o 'with respect to the azo or azomethine group, groups which fix metals :, such as hydroxyl, carboxyl or amino groups, and, in addition , in any positions, at least one amide group of sulphonic acids and / or at least one acylaminoo group These groups can be substituted on the nitrogen atom by alkyl or aryleo radicals As acylamino groups, it is possible, for example, , use the acetyl-, benzoyl-, propionyl- groups,

     hexahydrobenzoyl-methylsulfonyl- or benzenesulfonylamide or urethane groups It is also possible to start from dyes which contain at least one free amino group not being located ortho to the azo or azomethine group, and subsequently acylating this amino group by methods known per se.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Organic compounds, which are themselves capable of forming complex chromium compounds, but which do not constitute colorants, are for example, salicylic acid, pyrocatechins, o- and peri-dihydroxy-naphthalenes, acids o- and peri-hydroxynaphthos, phthalic and naphthalic acids, ortho-nitrosophenols and naphthols, 8-hydroxyquinoline, as well as sulfonic acids and corresponding sulfonic acid amides.

   The treatment of chromium-containing monoazo or aaomethine dyes with the organic compounds indicated above is most often carried out by boiling in aqueous or alcoholic solutions, advantageously with the addition of salts of weak acids, such as sodium acetate.

   The new dyes obtained according to the present process can be used for dyeing wool, silk, leather, casein wool, polyamide fibers and other synthetic fibers. They are already mounted on the fibers in a neutral or weakly acid bath and are generally distinguished by good resistance to rubbing, washing and fulling as well as good leveling power.

   The parts shown in the following examples are parts by weight.

   EXAMPLE 1.

   A mixture composed of 22 parts of the chromium-containing monoazofque dye, obtained from diazotized 1-hydroxy-2-amino-5-nitrobenzene and 2- acid amide, is heated for two hours at the boiling point with stirring. 6-hydroxynaphthalene sulfoic and containing per molecule of colourant 1 atom of chromium, 1000 parts of water, 14 parts of crystallized sodium acetate and 15 parts of 2-hydroxybenzoic acid phenylamide - 5-sulfoic. To complete the separation of the dye, sodium chloride is added after cooling, then the dye which has separated is filtered off.

   The latter dissolves well in water and dyes wool in a weakly acidic bath in shades of a reddish blue It is distinguished from the analogous dye prepared from 1-hydroxy-2-amino-5-nitrobenzene and 2-hydroxynaphthalene for better unison power.

   EXAMPLE 2.

   A mixture composed of 20 parts of chromium-bearing monoazo dye, obtained from 2-hydroxy-aminobenzene-4-sulfonic acid amide and 2-hydroxynaphthalene, is heated for 2 hours at the boil, while stirring. and containing per molecule of dye 1 atom of chromium, 400 parts of ethanol, 14 parts of crystallized sodium acetate and 15 parts of 2-hydroxybenzoic-5sulfonic acid phenylamide. After cooling, it is filtered, if necessary, to remove small amounts of impurities, and the filtrate is concentrated by evaporation. As a residue, a water-soluble dye is obtained which dyes the wool in a weakly acidic bath in burgundy red shades.

  It differs from the similar dye obtained from diazotized 1-hydroxy-2-aminobenzene and 2-hydroxynaphthalene by better rubbing fastness.

   By using for the preparation of the starting azo dye, instead of 2-hydroxynaphthalene, 4-hydroxy-1-methylbenzene as a coupling component, a water-soluble burgundy red dye is obtained, having similar properties.
