<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
REVENDICATIONS.

In general, the improved apparatus comprises a structure which can be placed between rows that are fairly close together of tanks T where the successive phases of the process are carried out. The bins can be placed on a base A formed of I-beams or beams of another shape, comprising transverse beams A1 between the neighboring bins and an A2 beam placed longitudinally between the neighboring rows of bins. The latter supports a rail B which can be formed by angles, the apex of the angle directed at the center upwards. A carriage C can move back and forth over a limited distance on this rail.
The carriage comprises upper and lower longitudinal bars C1 and C2, preferably U-shaped and C3 bars extending

D3, the plate D of the arm is located between the supports F2 of one of the workpiece carriers Fa When the arm is raised ;, the plate D in contact with the clamps lifts the workpiece carrier F and the workpiece it supports at the above the edge of the bin.
The rail then advances to transport the suspended part of the tank in which it has been immersed to a position located above the tank.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
next The movement of the carriage then ceases and the elevator lowers the arm to immerse the part in the liquid of the tank, resting the part holder F on the support rails G and Glo In this position, the plate D5 is relieved of its weight, so that during the initial return movement of the rail, it disengages from the workpiece carrier F and during the final movement couples to another workpiece carrier F which has been placed on the rails by another arm D3 , thus completing the cycle Hanging this same cycle, the arm of the other elevator of the pair,
which was in the raised position above the other row of bins is first lowered to place on the rails G and Gl the workpiece carrier F which it drives, then the arm moving with the carriage is released from the door -part removed and hooks another part holder F at the end of the movement of the carriage. This last workpiece carrier is then raised, transported to another container in the raised position and lowered to place it on the rails, the part plunging into the container. The parts are therefore transported in one direction for one row of bins and in the opposite direction for the other row.
ELEVATORS.
As described above, each elevator comprises a rack D2 placed between guide bars C4 bolted to the frame of the rail C. To hold the racks between the guide bars during the vertical movement, a pair of rollers D6 mounted on the lower end of the rack, rest against the outer face of the guides C4 and a roller D7 mounted on the upper ends of the guides C4 rests against the outer faces of the rack.
This roller assembly is sufficient to absorb the forces due to the load suspended at the outer end of the arm D3 The toothed wheel E which drives both the two racks of the pair of risers and which is controlled by the shaft E1 , moves the risers in opposite directions when the shaft is driven by a device described below
CART.
During the vertical movements of the elevators, the loads carried by the arms D3 extending in opposite directions are substantially balanced and applied to the rail Bo This rail which, as described above, has a shape inverted V, comes into contact with C5 rollers mounted at intervals on the lower bar C2 of the carriage frame C. The rollers are hollowed out with V grooves which are placed on the rail to prevent any displacement o It is however necessary to guide the upper part of the rail, which is preferably carried out by rollers C6 mounted on the bars C3 on either side of the rail in contact with the guide rails T1. These rails, as can be seen in the drawing, are mounted at the upper ends of posts adjacent to the walls of the bins in each row.
Thus, the load exerted on the tank constitutes an anchoring for the guide rails T1 and prevents any tilting movement of the carriage on one side or the other.
DEVICES SUPPORTING THE TRAPS
The rails G and G1, already mentioned, extend longitudinally above each bin and are preferably supported by bars G2 extending inwardly from the side walls of the bin. These bars can be mounted on T3 angles serving to reinforce the upper ends of the bacso The rails are mounted on the inner ends of the angles and isolated from them by an appropriate means, if they are used
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
to transport the electric currento However, in the tanks which do not have an electrical treatment, the rails can be mounted without insulation.
The workpiece carriers F rest on the rails and the opposite ends of the bars
EMI4.1
res Fl of these workpiece carriers are folded down as in to prevent the workpiece carriers from moving sideways. In bins where the parts are plated or electrically treated in another way, the rails G and G1 are electrified and can be connected either to the anode or to the cathode. F1 bars of the workpiece carriers transmit current to the pins
EMI4.2
F and the current passes through the hooks connecting these pins to the specie It is however necessary to avoid the formation of short circuits by the couplings to the IY arms, which can be obtained by insulating the supports F2 in the form of Z at the location of their attachment to the F1 bar. The circuits for mounting at the electric current source are not fully shown.
However, Q and Q1 conductors supported on the G2 bars but isolated from these bars, can be either positive conductors supporting anodes extending into the electrolyte of the tank if the part forms the cathode or negative conductors supporting suspended cathodes of the tank. same way if the part forms 1-anode. .

The treatment carried out in some tanks of the series may require more time than that of the cycle already described. This extra time can be provided by increasing the length of these bins and positioning the elevators so that one elevator feeds the part into the bin and another elevator at the opposite end of the bin pulls it out.Between these elevators, the part can be advanced on rails G and Gl by the following mechanism.
H arms are mounted on the top bar G1 of the trolley frame, cantilevered above the long boxes between the elevators at each end o The H arms are connected to each other by a longitudinal beam H1 placed in a corresponding horizontal plane

As shown in figure

parts Hb forming cams and shoulders H near these cams. The assembly is arranged so that when the beam H1 moves rearward relative to the direction of transport of the parts by the elevators,

the cams H6 attacking the spaced supports Fz turn the locking members H2 on their pivots and allow them to pass between their supports in order to attack the shoulders H7 by their rear ends.
In the reverse movement of the carriage and of the H1 beam, the workpiece carrier advances on the rails and this movement is repeated - step by step with each back-and-forth.

TRAINING DEVICES.
The mechanism working in the cycle described can be driven by any suitable device. It is preferably hydraulically driven and electrically controlled. It is unnecessary to describe in detail the drive and control mechanism, similar to many known mechanisms. In general, a hydraulic pump 1 is driven by an electric motor I1 to drive out a fluid in a circuit comprising an outlet pipe I2 and a return pipe I3, the latter ending in an accumulation tank I4. The hydraulic circuit comprises electric valves I5 and I6 respectively controlling a piston motor J moving the carriage C and an inverting rotary motor K able to turn the shaft E1 intermittently in one or the other direction.
Each of these valves has a neutral position in which the circuit fluid flows freely through the valve and positions directing the fluid to the corresponding motor to drive it in one or the other direction. 'is not illustrated in detail but includes solenoids L, L1, L2 and L3 and stop switches M, M1, M2 and M3. Switch M intervenes at the end of the downward movement of one of the risers (D1 on the right, fig. 12), to switch off the solenoid L which returns the valve I6 to the neutral position, and simultaneously switch on the solenoid L1 which places the valve I5 in a position moving the piston motor J, (to the right fig.
12) this having the effect of moving the carriage C in the corresponding direction, the switch M1 intervenes at the end of this movement of the carriage to switch off the solenoid L1 and simultaneously energize the solenoid L2, which acts on the valve I5 to turn the motor K in the direction required to raise the D-risers and lower the D-risers.
Switch M2 intervenes at the end of the downward movement of an elevator D to switch off solenoid L2 and energize solenoid L3 which brings valve I5 to the desired position to move motor J to the left, bring the truck back and complete the cycle o Fingers N and N1 on elevators D and D1 act on switches M and M2 and a fixed finger N2 operates switches M1 and M3 which are mounted on the carriage or on another part of the mechanism. back and forth.
The system can also include appropriate control devices to slow the two motors J and K before the end of movement in one direction in order to avoid shocks by inertia, said devices being designated by 0, O1, 02 and O3 (figo 12 )
In the complete apparatus, the two rows of bins may form a single series, with the parts moving intermittently from one bin to another in a row, then passing to the other row and advancing intermittently in that row. row in the other direction On the other hand, each of the two rows of trays can constitute a complete series differing from the other only in the direction of movement of the parts.
Figs 13 and 14 represent respectively plan and side elevation a mechanism for transferring parts from one row to another, this mechanism being constructed as follows:
The rails G and G1 above the last tank of the first row are connected by curved rails G3 and G4 to the rails G and G1 at the-
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
above the first bin in the return row. A suitable frame P also supports the curved guide rail p1 placed centrally between the rails G3 and G4 and in a horizontal plane above them. A curved carriage P2 of shorter length, slides on the rail P1 and carries at intervals pairs of H2 locking members of a construction similar to that of the organs already. described.
The carriage P2 pivots on a rod P3 in turn connected to an arm P4 extending laterally from the rear end of the carriage C on the return row of the bins. Thus, in the forward movement of the carriage C in the direction of the arrow (figo 13), the rod P3 moves the carriage P2 on the rail P1 from a position close to the first bin of the return row. a position close to the last bin of the first row. During this movement of the main carriage C an arm H of the carriage, projecting laterally above the first row, advances one of the workpiece carriers F to a position where it is attacked by a pair of H2 locking devices mounted on carriage P2.
During the return movement of the main carriage5, the curved carriage P2 advances the workpiece carrier F by a certain distance on the curved rails G3 and G4 and makes it assume the position indicated by 1, fig. 13. A new back and forth movement of the carriage advances the workpiece carrier F to another position on the curved rails G3 and G4, indicated by 2, fig. 13. A third back and forth motion advances the workpiece carrier F to a position above the rails G and Gl of the first bin in the return row, and from there the workpiece carrier is moved. advanced by a mechanism already. described along the row. Thus, the two rows of bins form a single series, the parts automatically passing from the last bin of the first row to the first bin of the return row.
