Certain mechanical transmissions use for the drive of gear systems the coupling by hydraulic couplers, the filling or emptying of which determines either the commissioning or the decommissioning of these gears.
The object of the present invention is a device which performs the rapid filling and emptying of such couplers, in the case where there is a source of fluid under low pressure (obtained by a centrifugal pump, for example).
This result is obtained without the use of valves or nozzles at the periphery of the casing, or of a reservoir rotating with the coupler.
The capacity of the coupler is little increased by the size of the drain tube.
A single device controls filling and emptying, but their respective flow is independent.
At the end of the filling, the device ensures the circulation of the fluid necessary for the evacuation of the calories and the maintenance of the level in the coupler whatever the emulsion phenomena which occur there,
The main part of the device is a flat ice drawer which controls the filling and draining ports connected to the pump and to the crankcase and to which the drain tube is fixed. This drawer is itself controlled by the piston of a fluid cylinder (compressed air, for example), the movement of which is controlled by a dash-pot. The constant supply of fluid is carried out by a pump driven by the coupler (preferably centrifugal).
Figure 1 shows an elevational view of the sliding drawer and a cross section of the control cylinder.
FIG. 2 represents a section of the hydraulic coupler with its casing, the relative position of the drain tube, of the spool and of the fluid inlet and return channels.
Figures 3 - 4 - 5 represent the three main positions of the drawer which are respectively: - emptying the coupler - rapid filling - maintaining the level and cooling circulation.
In the example shown, the drawer 1 consists of a metal plate sliding in a slideway of the housing and carrying a filling orifice 2 and an orifice 3 provided with a drain tube 4. This drawer slides on a glass 5, the sides of which cells 6 and 7 are in communication with the casing and cell 8 with the delivery of the feed pump.
The spool 1 is controlled by a piston 9 which receives through the adjustment 10 the permanent return pressure on its left face and, through the nozzle 11, the control pressure on its right face.
Its course to the left is free and depends on the speed at which air arrives through the nozzle 11.
Its stroke to the right is free until the moment when the shouldered rod meets the piston 12 which must expel the oil contained in 13 through an adjustable orifice 14. This adjustment makes it possible to make the duration of the second part of the stroke coincide. piston with coupler filling time. The start of this travel corresponds in fact to the coincidence of the opening 2 of the drawer with the cell 8 of the mirror.
The device operates as follows DRAIN (figure 3).
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
, The compressed air sent at 11 drives the piston 9 as well as the drawer 1 to the left until the orifice 3 of the drain tube communicates with the cell 6 of the ice; the fluid contained in the casing of the coupler follows the path indicated by the arrow to return to the casing the cell 8 in communication with the pump and the cell 7 returning to the casing are sealed o FILLING (FIG. 4).
The compressed air is allowed to escape through the nozzle 11, the piston pushed by the return air quickly assumes the position of FIG. 4 and abuts on the piston 12. At this time the filling cavity 8 is opened in large and the drain tube is brought back towards the axis of the coupler, which allows a very rapid filling of most of the coupler, the fluid following the path indicated by the arrows o Cells 6 and 7 are blocked o FULL COUPLER ON ( fipure 5).
From the previous position and as the piston 12 drives the oil out of the cylinder 13, the cavity 8 gradually closes while the drain tube reaches its level adjustment position from which its orifice 3 enters into communication with the cell 7 connected to the casing The stroke of the spool 1 is adjusted so that the cell 8 is not completely blocked and allows a slight flow of compensation which allows the progressive exchange of the fluid as it is as it heats up The excess of this flow is evacuated through the drain tube 4 and the cell 7 as well as the emulsified oil which may be there at the end of filling.
