In addition, the angle formed by the backrest and the seat varies according to the pressure exerted on the backrest.
On each of the side faces of the seat 5 is fixed a rod 8, for example using screws not shown. This rod is articulated to two pivoting arms 9 and 10. When the chair occupies the position suitable for sitting, shown in FIG. 1, the arm 9 is inclined towards the rear and the arm 10, forward. A connecting rod 11 is articulated on the one hand, at 12, and at a point located at the rear of the rod 8 and, on the other hand, to a part 13 playing the role of an elbow lever pivoting around a pivot 14 by relative to the fixed frame.
The articulation by which the connecting rod 11 is joined to the angled lever 13 is designated by 15. This articulation is situated between the pivot 14 and the pivot 16 of the arm 10 tilted forward. The elbow lever 13 is further joined by an articulation 32 between the pivot 14 and the articulation 17 to a fourth connecting rod 31 directed rearwardly. The other end of this connecting rod is joined by an articulation 30 to an angled arm 28, one part of which is connected by the articulation 12 to the rod 8, the other part being fixed to the back of the chair, for example to the armchair. using screws not shown.
A return spring 33 of the backrest upwards is mounted between a fixed part of the mechanism and the angled lever 13. In addition, a stop 34 mounted on a fixed part of the mechanism limits the inclination of the backrest.
If a person seated in the wheelchair grasps the fixed side walls 2 and exerts a little effort to push the backrest 6 back, he or she can easily bring the backrest, seat and legrest 7 into the fully reclining position. chée shown in Figure 2 or in any other intermediate position.
The back of the backrest causes the elbow arm 28 to pivot in the direction of the arrow X and, consequently, the lowering of the joint 30 bringing with it downwards the joint 12 located at the other end of the. arms.
At the same time, the rod 8 drives the arm 10 to raise its articulation 22. As a result, the front of the seat 5 is raised.
On the other hand, the lowering of the articulation 30 also has the effect of lowering and moving forward the fourth connecting rod 31.
The lowering and retreating of the joint 12 as well as the lowering and advancing of the joint 30 have the effect, thanks to the connecting rods 11 and 31, to cause the

counterclockwise angled lever 13 and, consequently, to raise the joint 17. The second connecting rod 18 as well as the pivot 19 of the balance 20 are therefore pushed forwards but in at the same time the articulation 21 of this balance is waxed towards the rear, which causes a tilting of this balance which brings the third connecting rod 24 into the position shown in FIG. 2 for which the arc-leg 7 is at roughly in line with the anterior seat area 5.
By ceasing to exert pressure on the backrest 6, the spring 33 for returning the backrest upwards automatically returns the chair from the lying position shown in FIG. 2 to the seated position shown in FIG. 1, all the positions. intermediaries that can be obtained depending on the pressure exerted on the file.
In addition, the various articulations may, for example, be in the form of rivets which ensure sufficient tightening between the parts which they join.
