<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 3.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present invention relates to improvements in rotating elements, more especially those in the form of a propeller, in mechanical strainers and the like. In general, the rotating elements are subjected to the pressure of a spring, so that their lower edge is properly maintained in contact with the perforated bottom of the colander. Practice shows that the engagement of materials in the different perforations of the bottom, is not done in a uniform manner, c. to.d. that the perforations located on the periphery of the bottom have a significantly greater flow rate than the perforations located near the axis.
The invention aims to ensure a flow as regular as possible over the entire surface of the bottom, and consequently to increase the speed of the operation. The reduction in the useful time for food passage operations, for example, is due
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
because of a more'régular flow of all the perforations of the bottom, but mainly because the quantities of material entrained by the propeller is notably reduced.
In the accompanying drawing is shown by way of example an embodiment of the present invention. Fig. 1 gives an axial section through a mechanical strainer according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3. View on a larger scale of the end of the propeller.
According to the embodiment shown in the drawing, the device allowing the division of the materials to be passed during their compression in the mechanical strainers, essentially comprises a body 1, preferably of frustoconical shape, in which a crushing element 2, under helix shape, paddle or the like, is in intimate contact with a perforated bottom 3.
The perforated bottom is generally flat or slightly conical to give it better strength, although in practice it can take any shape.
The crushing element or helix 2 grabs the materials and presses them towards the bottom and is provided with a contact edge with the said bottom which follows the profile of the section formed by the intersection of the element, the crushing element. with the bottom profile. The lower edge 4 of the propeller 2 has a more inclined section 5, constituting the scraping edge, the height of which decreases from the periphery towards the axis of said propeller; thus, from the outer periphery the propeller has a regular pitch which suddenly bends to make contact with the bottom, thus constituting section 5.
This section has a height decreasing towards the axis of the propeller and it follows that towards the axis the propeller comes into contact with the bottom without modification of its pitch.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Referring to the drawing, section 4 is directed along a secant and half of the radius of the bottom of the colander this section arrives at a height null-, so that the propeller no longer takes before the axis any other inclination than that of its not normal.
The contact edge 4 of the helix with the bottom can advantageously affect the angular shape, ie. to.d. that the section is prexent following a secant, until the 'part' 6 'does not fall at a stronger inclination to take the direction of the aec. 7.
The tests carried out have given excellent results, and it thus seems to be proved that, as a result of the section at decreasing height, the compressed material is driven into the perforations while the excess tries to escape to a place where the speed displacement is less and where it is however influenced by an increasingly reduced height of the scraping edge.
Finally, the angular shape of the contact edge of the helix determines a greater length of said edge and improves it; yield.
The invention has been described purely for information and general purpose and it goes without saying that many modifications can be made to its details without departing from its spirit.
