<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
L'anneau
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

There are already tapered seat rims, the tapered seat and the ring or ring can be removed, at least on one side, to allow or to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of the tire.
The invention relates to a conical-bearing rim of this type, which can be used for pneumatic tires not comprising an air chamber.
The novel feature of the subject of the invention lies in the fact that the ring forming the conical bearing surface is formed over its entire width or at least over its part oriented towards the middle of the rim by rubber or by a elastomer of similar type. The elastic ring can be a
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
endless closed ring. But it can also be formed by a strip whose ends overlap.
When the bottom of the rim is limited on one side by three separate rings, that is to say by a ring forming a conical seat, by a lateral ring and by a special safety ring, the ring forming the seat conical consists of rubber or an elastomer. This ring may have a wedge-shaped section, but it may also bear on its outer edge a bead oriented inwardly, engaging in a groove in which the safety ring is also housed.
Instead of the ring constituting the conical bearing being entirely made of rubber or an equivalent elastomer, it can also be designed so as to be formed of two elements of the same width, one consisting of steel and the other of an elastomer. The elastic element is, in this case, oriented towards the middle of the rim. The steel element and the elastic element of the composite ring forming the conical seat can be joined rigidly by vulcanization or in any other way. The steel element can then have one or more slots oriented radially and distributed over its periphery, while the rubber element rationally has no solution of continuity.
Instead of providing a ring forming a particular conical seat, it is still possible to realize the elastic conical seat and the side ring-limiting the bottom of the rim on one side in a single piece, of which; '. the two elements can be united by vulcanization or by any other process. If the side ring has slits, it is recommended to provide the butt edges with layers of vulcanized rubber. When using these rims,. these ends are in all cases compressed together in a sealed manner. If the rubber ring itself has slits, its ends may become
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
protrude and overlap.
Due to the pressure exerted by the bead of the pneumatic tire on this protruding part, despite the slits, an absolute seal is obtained. Optionally, the split ring can be closed by a tightening screw.
All of the conical seat rim embodiments described can be used with pneumatic tires which do not include an inner tube, because one of the beads of the tire is applied absolutely tightly against the bottom of the rim by the seat. elastic conical.
When the elastic conical seat is rigidly connected by vulcanization to another by Lie of the rim, for example to the steel element of the tapered seat ring, or even to the side ring, it is recommended to conform the abutment edges in such a way that the largest possible contact surface is obtained. This result can be obtained when the contact surface has an angular section, or else when it is cut obliquely. Furthermore, it is possible to provide on the steel element an angular recess in which the rubber element engages.
The appended drawings show, by way of nonlimiting examples, five possible embodiments of the object of the invention.
The f igs. 1 to 5 are cross-sectional views of a rim shaped according to the invention.
Fig. 6 is a side view of the embodiment shown in FIG. 5.
According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the bottom 10 of the rim is limited on one side by a fixed conical bearing surface 11 and a bead 12, also fixed. On the opposite side, the bottom of the rim is limited by a closed ring forming a conical bearing surface 13 formed by rubber or an equivalent elastomer, and by a removable lateral ring 14. The two elements
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
13 and 11 are held in the position of use by a safety ring 15 constituted by an elastic ring. The safety ring 15, which is an open ring, engages radially and elastically inside a groove 16 made in the bottom of the rim. It is held in the position of use by a protruding heel 17 of the side ring 14.
The conical seat ring 13 bears axially forward of the safety ring 15. In the radial direction, it is gripped by the surface 18 of the side ring 14. A bead 19 of the ring 13 s' radially inwardly engaged in a chamfer 20 of the groove 16. However, practice has shown that the bead 19 can possibly be omitted.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 2, in which, in general, use is made of the same references as in FIG. 1, departs somewhat from the first embodiment in that the conical seat ring 131 is formed by a steel element 21 and a rubber element 22. These two elements are joined by vulcanization at 23. L The steel element 21 is split at one or more points in the radial direction.
The rubber ring 22 is, on the other hand, constituted by an endless band, that is to say completely closed. In order to obtain at the point of contact 23 as strong a connection as possible by vulcanization of the elements 21 and 22, the contact surface has an angular section, in order to provide a greater range. The research which led to the invention has made it possible to observe that the narrow elastic element 22 of the conical bearing ring 131 is sufficient to ensure the desired tight sealing of a pneumatic tire not comprising a chamfer. - air breeze.
According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the bottom of the rim is limited laterally by only two rings, namely by a ring 24 and by a safety ring 15. The ring
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
24 is itself formed by the ring the axis itself 25 and by the rubber ring 26, attached by vulcanization.
While the rings with conical bearing 13 and 131 shown in figs. 1 and 2 only have an inclination of 5 outwards, the ring 24 has, in cross section, an inclination of 15. The contact surface 27 is inclined in order to increase its range. But the rubber element 16 could also be stepped as indicated at 28 and thus be embedded in the steel element 25.
The principle explained with reference to FIG. 3 is illustrated by FIG. 4, the rim then having a slightly different profile and the conical seat having, in cross section, an inclination of 5.
According to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the side ring 24 is split in its steel part 25, while the ring .26 is completely closed. The edge 29, slightly widened towards the outside, of the bottom of the rim serves as a support for the side ring 24. The edges of the butt joint 30 of the side profile 24, 25 are connected by a screw. tightening 31.
Since the ends of the steel profile 25 are provided with vulcanized rubber gaskets 32, the seal is perfectly sealed when it is in the position of use,
The details of realization can be modified, without departing from the invention, in the field of technical equivalences.
