 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

(fig. 1).

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

(fig. 5).

   The present invention relates to a machine for milling the tubes, in particular the ends of tubes, comprising a cylindrical frame inside which is housed, mounted on a pivoting support, an electric motor connected by a transmission belt to a fixed pulley. above the frame, the horizontal axis of the said pulley carrying at its end a frontal milling cutter, intended to mill a notch on the end of a tube to be milled, clamped in a vice that can be oriented in a vertical plane, the said vice being articulated on a carriage capable of moving by means of a manually-operated screw on slides fixed to the cover of the frame, the machine also comprising an installation for cooling the milling cutter during operation. machining, housed inside the frame.

   The machine is characterized in that it comprises a device for adjustable stops of the carriage and of the tube to be milled and an adjustable device for fixing a bent tube for milling its bent end, said devices being intended to facilitate

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 serial milling of the ends of said tubes, with a view to rigorous adaptation of the milled tube to the tube to which it is to be welded.

   The accompanying drawing, given by way of example, represents one form and two variant embodiments of the machine, object of the invention.

   Fig. 1 is an elevational view, partially in section, of the machine.

   Fig. 2 is a plan view of FIG. 1.

   Fig. 3 is an elevational view of a semicircular milled tube made on one of its ends.

   Fig. 4 is an elevational view of an asymmetrically milled tube made on one of its ends.

   Figs. 5 to 7 represent two variants of the machine.

   Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a first variant with stop devices for the tube to be milled.

   Fig. 6 is a plan view of FIG. 5, and fig. 7 is, in a second variant of the machine, a perspective view of an adjustable fixing device of a bent tube for milling its bent end.

   In the embodiment shown, the machine comprises a frame 1 (fig. 1 and 2), of cylindrical shape, in which is placed a motor 2 which actuates, by means of a transmission belt 3, a pulley 4 of which the horizontal axis 5 carries, at the end opposite to said pulley, a front cutter 6, rotating in the direction of the arrow! (fig. 1).

   The cutter 6 is intended, in its rotation, to cut a semi-circular notch at the end of a tube 7. For this purpose, the tube 7 is fixed for the duration of the operation in a vice 8, with jaws , by means of a screw 9, actuated by a handle 10, for example with three branches. The vise 8 is supported by a carriage

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 11, intended to be moved between two slides 12, 12 'by means of a screw 13, actuated by a crank 14, the direction of movement of the carriage being parallel to the tube 7 and perpendicular to the axis of the cutter 6.

   By slowly actuating the crank 14, the screw 13 drives the carriage 11, so that the tube 7 moves in the direction of the arrow !: (fig. 1) until the end of said tube comes into contact with the cutter 6, set in rotation by the motor 2. A semi-circular milled notch will thus be obtained, such as that shown at the upper end of the tube 7 (FIG. 3). This milled, semi-circular notch is equal to the half-section of the cutter 6, the diameter of which corresponds to that of the tube intended to be welded to the countersunk end of the tube 7 '.

   In addition, the machine is also constructed to make countersunk notches whose lips, instead of forming an angle of 90, as shown on the tube 7 'of FIG. 3, are asymmetrical, the notch being more inclined on one side than the other of the tube, as is the case, for example, with the notch made at the upper end of the tube 7 "(fig. 4). To this end, a support 15 (fig. 1 and 2), in which the axis 5 actuating the cutter 6 is capable of rotating, is connected at its lower part to a vertical pivot 16, housed in a bearing 17 .

   By rotating the cutter 6 on the pivot 16 at an angle varying from 0 to 45 in one of the directions indicated by the wire arrow (fig. 2) and marked by a graduated scale 18, the angle of desired setting of the assembly of the cutter and its control mechanism by means of a nut 19 fixed on the head of the pi.vot 16, which makes it possible to obtain a milled notch with corresponding inclination of the lips.

   In the water of an inclined milling of the cutout made

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 at the end of the tube 7, the vice 8 (fig. 1) could be mounted on the carriage 11 so as to be orientable in a vertical plane, perpendicular to that of the rotation of the cutter 6.

   During the milling operation, the milling cutter 6 is continuously cooled by the jet of a refrigerant liquid, contained in a reservoir 20 housed in the lower part of the frame 1. The refrigerant liquid is sucked by a pump 21 through a tube 22 , falls, after having been projected onto the cutter, into a tank 23, forming the cover of the frame 1, from where it returns to the tank 20 through a tube 24.

   In a first variant of the embodiment described, the machine is provided with stop devices intended for serial milling of the tube ends.

   At the front end of each of the guide rails of the carriage carrying the vice 8 (fig. 5 and 6) is fixed an adjustable stop 25, intended to limit the advance of the carriage in the direction of the cutter.

   In addition, on the vise 8 is fixed an adjustable stop 26, movable in the direction of the arrow! (fig. 5). This stop, placed in the position shown in FIG. 5, is intended to block the anterior end, not countersunk, of a tube 27, clamped in the vice 8, of which the posterior end, already provided with a semi-circular notch, is blocked by a adjustable stop 28, fixed on a support connected to the rear part of the vice 8.

  This stop 28 comprises a tube the diameter of which is equal to that of the cutter which was used to hollow out said semi-circular notch.

   After having blocked the tube 27 between the stops 26 and 28, the stop 26 is rotated until it occupies the horizontal position shown in FIG. 6, to mill the tube. Then, using the crank 6, we advance against

This new advancement continues until the carriage presses against the stopper 25 at the start. the milling operation, the tube 27 being constantly placed in position and traveling, clamped in the vice, a constant distance, thus obtaining identical tubes, provided with always equal milled notches.

   Thanks to the stop 28, adjustable and orientable, it is possible to maintain the tube 27 in any position with respect to the milled notch and to execute on the end to be milled of the tube, any inclination. the second variant to the embodiment of the machine, object of the invention, refers to an adjustable fixing device of a bent tube for milling its bent end. These bent tubes are, for example, metal seat arms and other similar tubular elements.

   The device, placed after the support 29 (fig. 5), dovetailed, on which the vice 8 is capable of moving, comprises a support plate 30 (fig. 7), with slides 31, dovetail, said support plate being fixed to the support 29 by means of two screws., not shown in FIG. 7. On one of the lateral sides of the plate 30 is disposed a movable vice 32, with prismatic clamping screw, intended to hold the end 33, to be milled, of a bent tube 34.

   The vice 32 is articulated at one of its ends on an axis 35 and comprises at the other end a slide 36 in which is engaged a tie rod 37, passing through the plate 30 and provided at the opposite end with a nut, intended to fix Vise 32 in the milling position of tube 34, shown

 their ends, the non-curved part of the tube 34 presses against a stop bar 38, articulated at one of its ends on a pin 39, fixed in the branches of a yoke whose rod is capable of sliding in a tube. support 40. This lobe 40 is clamped, using a screw 41, between the walls of a U-shaped support block 42, fixed to the lateral edge of the plate 30.

   Finally, at the end of the tube 40 opposite to. that supporting the yoke, a screw 43 is engaged, intended to adjust the movement of the yoke rod by forcing on the pivot axis 39, so as to hold the tube 34 during the milling of its bent end.

   Thanks to the device described in this second variant, the milling machine according to the invention is adapted so that the ends of the bent tubes with different radii of curvature can be fixed at the desired height relative to the cutter and that, by the adjustment, the start of a series machining, the vice 32 or'on rotates about its axis 35, the tube having a given bending can be constantly maintained in an invariable position during the milling of its bent end.

   It is obvious that the operations of adjustment of the machine, object of the invention, are carried out only at the beginning of the machining of a series of tubes of the same diameter and of the same radius of curvature.

   In addition, the machining head 5 (fig. 6) of the tube milling machine could be moved beyond a wedging angle of 45 in the direction of arrow F 'and up to an angle of 15 in the direction of the arrow. opposite direction, in order to increase the possibilities of milling, in particular on bent tubes.
