 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 différentes paires 10, 10 a, etc...

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 chemical or thermal currently used, by molding the layered material - or not, between a mold or die, and a counter-mold or punch or core, conductors, or made conductive on their active surface and each connected to a pole of an electric generator producing a high voltage of high frequency.

   ¯ It is unfortunately proven that large surfaces provide capacities incompatible with an acceptable efficiency of oscillating circuits at the high frequencies which it would be desirable to use.

   . The method, which is the subject of the present application, consists in electrically dividing the molds into areas or sectors isolated from each other, each having only a small enough surface to form a capacitor compatible with the circuits used.

   The invention is also aimed at devices which allow this method to be implemented.

   The invention will be better understood on reading the following description and on examining the appended drawings which include five figures showing schematically, by way of non-limiting examples, some embodiments of the invention.

   Referring first to Figure 1, it is known that the conventional method consists in exerting a certain pressure on the plastic material (3), laminated or not, between a mold (1) and a counter-mold ( 2) each connected to a pole of a high frequency oscillation generator (5).

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   According to the invention, the counter-mold, for example, is insulating and provided with conductive plates 4, 4, a 4 b ... forming areas or islands, facing the conductive surface of the mold 1.

   The conductive part of the molds is shown schematically by a strong line. Each island is then successively connected to a pole of generator 5 by any device, the simplest being represented by a rotary switch (6) which allows, moreover, to repeat Inaction several times on each island (-, a, etc. ..during the one piece molding operation, the other pole of the generator is connected to the mold.

   The switch can advantageously be linked with a device capable of interrupting the high-frequency current during switching, for example by cut-off of the oscillating gates.

   In the representation shown in fig. 1, the outer mold is earthed for the protection and safety of personnel. The counter-mold (2), which must be insulating, only carries the active islands 4 4 A, etc @, the edges of which are rounded and raised to avoid the formation of arcs between neighboring islands.

   The embodiment described above is not limiting and the same principle can be applied to several variants.

   FIG. 2 shows the placing in series of two islands 10 and 10 a for example, a switch 12 and 12 'successively connecting, by circular permutation, the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 different pairs 10, 10 a, etc ... The power is supplied by generator 11.

   In this device, and the following ones, the interval between two neighboring islands must be greater than that represented by the double of the space between the mold 7 and the counter-mold 8.

   Figure 3 shows that, in the case where the surfaces of the molds form capacities close to double the limiting capacity compatible with the frequency used, it is possible very simply and statically, that is to say without the intervention of movable members, reduce these capacities by half, while subjecting practically the entire surface of the molds to high-frequency currents, by dividing the surface of the counter-mold at 17 and 17 a.

   FIG. 4 shows the extension of this principle to the static treatment of large surfaces, by placing in series N identical elements dividing by N the capacity that the same molds would have had in a single piece.

   In this case, the counter-mold 18 and the mold 20 are both insulating.

   We see that some elements such as 21 and 21 a, etc ... are without connection. They ensure the passage of high frequency current between the two elements' which are opposite to them. However, it can be useful to fix their high frequency potential by connecting them to a resistance voltage divider.

   In all cases where elements placed in series are used to reduce the resulting capacity, we

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 increases, on the other hand, the total supply potential which is divided, in the case of identical elements, into equal fractions for each of them.

   FIG. 5 represents the case of a mold comprising an extra thickness at 26. It is then advantageous to reduce the area of the corresponding island, in order to maintain a potential gradient which is more or less constant in the various thin regions. or thick. The same is true in the case where the molding is made with resins which are electrically different in certain regions: for example, if a part of the product obtained must be rigid, while others must be flexible or elastic.

Claims (1)

ABSTRACT The object of the present invention is to allow the rapid polymerization, by an electrical treatment at high frequency, of thermosetting resins, laminated or not. ' It is particularly aimed at the case where the size of the treated surfaces creates electrostatic capacitances incompatible with obtaining a sufficient surge coefficient in the range of desirable short wavelengths on the other hand. For this, the invention uses the division of the molds into small capacity elements driven successively by switching or simultaneously by grouping several of them in series.
