<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to the improvement of gear change mechanisms with toothed wheels of the return type comprising two pairs of toothed wheels serving for the constant transmission and a hydraulic transmission mechanism (torque converter for the highest speed stage. low.
Until now, mechanisms of this type have usually included, in addition to the primary shaft, also on the intermediate or return shaft, a number of mechanical couplings corresponding to that of the speed stages to be obtained, in order to
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
be able to couple the idler wheels provided on this shaft with the countershaft for each speed.
The improvement obtained by the invention consists in that one of the pairs of toothed wheels serving for the constant transmission is brought into driving connection with the driving shaft by a hydraulic coupling intended to be controlled (clutch and release) by filling and emptying and which ensures the speed transmission of force in second / or in other stages of speed apart from the direct drive. This embodiment provides the essential advantage that) when engaging gears or transmission ratios, apart from those with use of the torque converter and outside direct drive, extremely smooth control or engagement is possible. .
According to the invention, the constructive solution is provided such that the counter-wheel conjugated with the driving wheel can be connected to the motor shaft by the hydraulic coupling and the counter-wheel conjugated with the final fixed wheel of the The output or secondary shaft are wedged together on a hollow shaft, which is mounted on the intermediate shaft and can be coupled therewith. If other speed stages are to be provided, it is possible to arrange on the hollow shaft to be extended accordingly, in addition to one of the wheels of the constant transmission, several wheels, individually rotating but capable of being ac- coupled with the hollow shaft.
In all cases of power transmission through the additional pairs of wheels, smooth control is possible using the hydraulic coupling combined with the hydraulic torque converter. Added to this is the further advantage that several speeds can also be used via the torque converter.
Two exemplary embodiments are shown on the attached sheet of drawings:
Figure 1 shows, in longitudinal section a
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
mechanism according to the invention, which is designed for obtaining three forward speeds, including direct drive. We refrained from showing the means for obtaining reverse.
Figure 2 shows a five-speed toothed-wheel gear change mechanism including the direct drive.
In the examples shown, the input shaft of the mechanism is designated by 1 and the output shaft of the mechanism by 2. Between the two main shafts, there is provided in a known manner a clutch 3. With the shaft 1, the pump wheel 4 of the hydraulic transmission or converter is joined by means of the plate 5. The turbine wheel or rotor 6 of the converter is attached to a hollow shaft 7, on which the wheel is fixed. driving toothed 8. With this wheel 8 is engaged a wheel 9 wedged on the countershaft 10. The two wheels form the first constant transmission.
The second constant transmission is formed by the wheels 11 and 12 meshing with one another, one of which, the wheel 11, is wedged on a hollow shaft 13, which carries the half 15 of a hydraulic coupling. The other half 14 of this coupling is mounted on the plate 5 integral with the input shaft 1 of the mechanism. The toothed wheel 12 of the second constant transmission is fixed with a toothed wheel 16 on a hollow shaft 17, which is mounted idle around the shaft 10. With the wheel 16 engages a wheel fixed on the output shaft 2 of the. mechanism. The way in which we go to the different gear stages, in the mechanism described, is visible on the gear change diagram shown in Figure 1.
To achieve the first gear, the force transmission of the shaft 1 is effected by means of the torque converter 4, 5, 6 and the wheels 8,9 as well as a clutch 20 which serves to
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the connection of the countershaft 10 and the hollow shaft 17 carrying the wheels 12 and 16. The output shaft 2 is driven by means of the wheels 16, 18. The clutch 20 is here, for example, a disc clutch.
For the second gear, the hydraulic coupling 14, 15 is used, and the force is transmitted through the wheels 11, 12, the hollow shaft 17 and the wheels 16 and 18 mounted on output shaft 2.
The direct drive is obtained by the clutch of the coupling 3. The embodiment according to figure 2, designed to obtain five speeds including the direct drive, has a pair of additional wheels, of which a wheel 25 is fitted to the output shaft 2, while the counter wheel 26 is mounted loose on the hollow shaft 17 but in such a way as to be able to be coupled with the latter. wheel combined with the wheel 18 of the output shaft 2 is here also a wheel 27 mounted loose on the hollow shaft 17 and must be able to be coupled with the latter.
Between the wheels 26 and 27 is interposed a gear change coupling 28, 29, the movable part 29 of which is guided on the hollow shaft 17 so as to be able to rotate with it but to be able to slide axially on it. The 3G gearshift lever is engaged in an annular groove. The coupling of the hollow shaft 17 and the countershaft 10 is provided by a clutch 33, one half of which is fixed to the hollow shaft 17, while the other half of the clutch is carried. by a sleeve, which is mounted on the countershaft 10 so as to be able to rotate with it but to be able to slide axially on it. The operating lever 34 is engaged in the sleeve. To control the couplings 3, 20, 28, 29 and 33, a pressurized fluid (for example oil) is usefully used.
As shown in the speed change diagram which corresponds to FIG. 2, the mechanism allows two lower speeds I and II by using the converter 4, 5, b.
Two other speeds (III and IV) are obtained by
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
through the hydraulic coupling 14, 15. Direct engagement is possible when the coupling 3 is engaged and all the other couplings are disengaged. The means for obtaining reverse gear are not shown in the drawings.
