<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to improvements in knitting looms for making pile fabrics. An object of the invention is to create a practical and advantageous knitting loom, allowing the manufacture of pile fabrics of very different weights and types, and the use of many types of fibers without changing the cylinder or the needles.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Another object of the present invention is to provide a loom of the aforementioned kind, in which the mechanism for distributing the fibers on the needles of the rotating cylinder is driven by the needle cylinder, and in synchronism with it. the latter, which is itself driven in rotation by a motor or by a belt, depending on whether one of these drive modes is desired.
To this end, the present invention relates to a knitting machine for making pile knits comprising a carrier plate, a rotary needle cylinder mounted in this plate, and a fiber distributor mounted on the plate, characterized by an intermediate transmission boot between the needle cylinder and the fiber distributor, ensuring the drive of the fiber distributor, by the needle cylinder.
To better understand the invention, it will be described below in detail with reference to the appended drawing in which: the figure is a schematic plan view of half of a loom according to the invention comprising a rotating cylinder carrying paddle needles. Figure 2 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale taken along line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 'is a partial front view of the needle roller. Figure 4 is a sectional view taken along line 4-4 of Figure 3. Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectional view of the drive mechanism of the intermediate fiber distributor.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Figure 6 is a plan view from an angle of this intermediate distributor with the cover assumed to be removed.
Figure 7 is a sectional view of the carrier plate of the knitting machine equipped with a modified drive mechanism of the fiber distributor.
FIG. 8 is a front view of the latter mechanism.
In figs. 1 to 6 of the drawing, 1 designates the supporting plate of a rotary cylinder knitting machine equipped with paddle needles. 2 denotes the needle-holder cylinder carried by this plate and rotatably mounted in this plate. Circular recesses 3 are suitably distributed in the upper face of the carrier plate, in front of each of which there is a sector of the ring gear 4 of the cylinder.
A drive toothed ring 5 is provided on the cylinder and is driven in rotation with the latter:
An intermediate transmission box 6 is fixed to the carrier plate so that its spur gear 7 is engaged in the recess 3 to engage with the toothed ring 4. The pinion 7 is thus driven in rotation by the cylinder 2 during the rotation. of it.
The pinion 7 is fixed to the lower end of the extended shaft 8 'mounted in the box which is provided with a removable cover 6;, The shaft 8' is integral in rotation with a bevel pinion 11 engaged, with a corresponding bevel gear 12, integral with a shaft 14 rotatably mounted in a bearing 13 .. The end of the shaft 14 opposite the pinion 12 carries a pinion 15 which is quiengrne with a corresponding pinion 16 that bears
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
a pivot 17 extended outwards, of the box 6.
The outer end of this pivot is integral in rotation with a toothed wheel 8 which drives by a chain, not shown, a toothed wheel 9 forming part of the fiber distributor 10.
This fiber distributor is securely fixed, but 'removably, on the intermediate gearbox 6. When the needle cylinder rotates, the fiber distributor is therefore actuated in synchronism with this needle cylinder to deposit fibers of different types and, chosen on the needles during knitting.
The operating speed of the fiber distributor can be adjusted simply by the use of toothed wheels 8 or 9, of larger or smaller diameters.
Figures 7 and 8 show a different type of intermediate drive mechanism. From the underside of the carrier plate 1 ', and near the mounting point of a fiber distributor, a support 18 is suspended comprising a cross member 19. In this cross member is rotatably mounted a shaft 20 which carries a pinion. straight 24 meshing with a toothed ring 5 integral with the needle cylinder 2 ', inside the support 19 a worm
21, integral with the shaft 20, meshes with a wheel. helical 22 integral with a transverse shaft 23, the outer end of which carries a toothed wheel 8 "which drives, by a chain 25, a fiber distributor via its toothed wheel 9.
It should be noted that, in these two embodiments of the transmission boot, the simple change
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
sprockets 8, 8 "or 9 allow the change of the operating speed of the fiber distributor, and the adjustment of the weight of the knit without changing the weight in grams of the wick, that is to say a wick of about 10 g for, a length of 1 meter allows to make on this loom a knitting weighing 595 to 940 g for a length of
0.914 m. This arrangement also makes it possible to adjust the ratio between the peripheral speed of the comb of the fiber distributor and the peripheral speed of the needle cylinder, for example the ideal speeds from 5 to 8 for
1 cylinder peripheral unit.
