Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

   The present invention relates to improvements in hammer mills intended for grinding cereal grains or the like of the type comprising an outer casing in which is mounted a screen having the shape of a body of revolution, preferably a cylinder, and dividing the interior of the casing into an inner grinding chamber and an outer collecting chamber, a hammer rotor being mounted in the grinding chamber coaxially with the screen, while the casing has, on the one hand, at m @ ins an inlet through which a stream of air charged with grains to be ground is introduced into the grinding chamber and,

   on the other hand, an outlet through which the flour is discharged from the collecting chamber.

   In hammer mills of the known type indicated above, it is necessary to introduce compressed air loaded with grains suspended in this air into the grinding chamber and / or to suck the air out of the chamber. manifold for removing the flour. In these known mills, therefore, very powerful air compressors and / or suction devices must be available. These air compressors are expensive, bulky and consume a lot of energy.

   The present invention relates to a hammer mill, which does not require, for its operation, any separate air compressor or suction device.

   While in known hammer mills, the hammer rotor only fulfills a threshing function, that is to say a function of subjecting the cereal grains to repeated blows so as to grind them, in the hammer mill according to the invention, the rotor fulfills on the other hand, in addition to its threshing function, the role of a suction-pressure pump serving both to feed

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 assemble the mill with grains to grind and remove the flour obtained from the mill.

   To this end, according to the invention, the mud rotor carries vanes, which serve to suck into the grinding chamber a stream of air laden with grains to be ground and to force this air into the collecting chamber to evacuate. out of this the flour obtained.

   According to a particular feature of the invention, the aforementioned blades are carried by the rotor in the vicinity of the inlet of the casing, this latter being advantageously coaxial with the rotor and the screen.

   The hammer mill is fed, preferably, through a chute opening into the entrance to the grinding chamber.

   Other features and details of the invention will emerge from the following description of the drawings appended hereto, which represent schematically, and by way of example only, one embodiment of a hammer mill for grinding cereals according to the invention. 'invention.

   In these drawings: - Figure 1 is, after partial section, an elevational view of a hammer mill according to the invention; - Figure 2 is a section along line II-II of 'Figure 1, and la.figure 3 is, after partial section, a view ..' from the rear, in perspective (of the rotor of the mill, devoid of hammers.

   In these three figures, the same reference notations designate identical elements.

   As shown in the drawings, the hammer mill has an outer casing generally designated by the reference notation 2. This casing \ affects,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   as shown in figure 2, a spiral shape. In the casing 2 is mounted a cylindrical sieve 3, which divides the interior of the casing into an inner grinding chamber 4 and an outer collecting chamber 5. The cylindrical sieve 3, some perforations of which have been shown at 6, is mounted fixedly but removably in the casing 2. In fact, this sieve fits, by one end, into an annular groove formed by two crowns. 7 and 8 projecting on a side 9 (posterior side) of the casing, towards the inside thereof.

   At its other end, the cylindrical screen 3 is inserted between the horizontal wing directed inwardly of the envelope of an L-section ring 10 and the outer bora of a circular door. 11 provided on the front side 12 of the casing 2. This door 11 pivots about a vertical axis and can be locked by any suitable device (not shown). When closing the door 11, the cylindrical screen 3 is held firmly in place, by inserting its front edge between the horizontal flange of the removable panel 10 and the peripheral edge of the door 11.

   Thanks to the above-described assembly of the cylindrical screen 3, the latter can be easily removed for cleaning and put back in place or replaced by another screen.

   The wall 9 constituting the rear side of the casing 2 has an opening coaxial with the screen 3 and which freely passes through a motor shaft M housed in part in a tube 13 in the ends of which are provided roller bearings mounted in cages 14 and 15 pus-proof. seats. The M shaft is driven by a motor (not shown The motor can be coupled directly: to the mill shaft ..

  In this case, this shaft is provided with an elastic coupling. The M shaft of the mill can also be connected to the motor

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 through a transmission. In this case the mill shaft carries a trapezoidal groove pulley or a flat pulley.

   On the free end of the shaft M. is wedged a rotor designated as a whole by the reference notation 16. This rotor, which is coaxial with the cylindrical screen 3, comprises a sleeve 17 wedged on the shaft. M. This sleeve 17 has four wings. radials 18 projecting beyond each of the ends of the sleeve 17. At each of their ends, the radial wings 18 are cut as shown respectively at 19 and 20. These radial wings are set at 90 from each other on the sleeve 17. The ai.Lesradiales 18 are interconnected by annular plates extending perpendicula.irement to the axis of the sleeve 17 wedged on the shaft These annular plates are designated in Figure 1 by the notations of reference 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26.

   The angular plates 23 and @ 4 are wedged on the sleeve 17 and are integral with the radial wings 18, while the annular plates 21, 22, 25 and 26 are integral with the radial wings 18 in the sides of these wings s 'extending beyond the ends of the sleeve 17. The various annular plates extend from the outer longitudinal edge of the radial wings 18 towards the axis of the rotor for a distance corresponding to the height of the radial wings at the places where the respective plates are integral with these wings. Furthermore, the two middle plates 23 and 24 have holes 27 in the vicinity of the sleeve 17.

   In addition, in the vicinity of their periphery, the annular plates 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 20 have in place between the radial wings 18 holes surrounded by a nozzle 28 providing passage to a rod. 29 also passing through holes made in pallets 30 crimping office

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 hammers, these pallets being kept parallel to each other by intermediate nozzles 31.

   The casing 2 has at its front side 12 an opening E formed in the door 11 and constituting the entrance through which the. grinding chamber 4 is supplied with grains to be ground. At its rear side, the casing 2 also has an annular opening E ′ constituting an additional inlet through which air is also drawn into the grinding chamber.

     As shown in particular in FIG. 1, the aunular plate 20 bears on its anterior face, that is to say on its face turned towards the entrance E, a plate 38 @@ so nail a. @bes @@ suitably arranged to suck at the inlet E a stream of air loaded with grains to be ground and to force this stream of air into the grinding chamber 4 and then into the collecting chamber 5.

   The suction-pushing action of the rotor 16 is further promoted by the radial wings 18, especially by the cut-out parts 19 and .Ìl of these radial wings. The air expelled in the collecting chamber carries the flour with it and leaves loaded with this flour through the outlet 33 of the casing 2.

   The feed of grains to be ground to the hammer mill takes place via a chute 34, which communicates with the inlet E of the casing 2. In the chute 34, it is allowed to fall into the direction of the. arrow Y, grains of cereal to be ground. Arrived at the height of the inlet E of the casing 2, these grains are sucked towards the interior of the grinding chamber 4 by the blades 32 and the radial wings 18 of the rotor 16 which rotates at high speed, for example. at 3000 rpm, in the direction of arrow X.

   At the upper part of the goui.otte 34 is mounted a magnet 35 intended for

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 to remember- The metallic particles which would be mixed. grains and. which could damage the screen if they were introduced into the screen. At the inférie @ -re end of the chute 34 is provided a register 36, which serves; to Bigler the draft in the chute or to evacuate the material which would not have been sucked into the grinding chamber 4. by the blades 32.

   Finally, the chute 34 has, at the level of the inlet E of the casing 2, a nozzle 37 to which can be connected a pipe serving to recycle the air coming from the outlet 33 and previously cleared of the flour. .

   The hammer mill described above works as follows:
The grains in suspension in an air current which are sucked out of the feed chute 34 by the vanes 32 and the wings 18 of the rotor 16 are discharged by these same elements into the grinding chamber 4, where they come from. first in contact with the inner edges of the pallets acting as hammers 30. The grains undergo, as a result of the repeated blows they receive from these inner edges (where the speed of rotation can already reach, for example 25 meters per second ), a first grinding, after which the already coarsely ground grains are driven, under the effect of centrifugal force, into the cylindrical sieve 3, while still receiving repeated blows from the hammers 30.

   The outer edges of the hammers 30 can be driven at a peripheral speed of about 95 meters per second.

  The fine grinding of the crackers takes place under the effect of the repeated shocks or blows undergone by the grains in contact with the outer edges of the hammers 30. The flour particles obtained as a result of this grinding are expelled through the per- 6 holes of the sieve 3 in the outer collecting chamber '

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 5 from which they are evacuated, suspended in air, through the outlet 33 of the apparatus.

   The separation of the flour contained in the air discharged from the apparatus can be carried out, for example, using a centrifugal separator, such as a cyclone, or a separating device of another type.

   The air freed from the flour can be recycled into the mill through the nozzle 37, with which the feed chute 34 is fitted.

   It is obvious that the invention is not exclusively limited to the embodiment described above and that
