Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   Turning off the stems of cherries, machines are generally used essentially comprising an inclined belt formed by long rubberized rods which are arranged parallel to each other and longitudinally with respect to the axis of the machine and are driven by a continuous rotational movement, but reverse, from one stem to the next.

  These stems being used in pairs and the two stems of the same pair rotating in the opposite direction, the stems of cherries get caught between these two stems and are torn, while the cherries rest against the stems

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 without being able to pass between them. The tails are evacuated below the mat formed by the stems, and the cherries roll to the lower end of the mat.

   By design, these machines are suitable only for peeling cherries, that is, fruits whose stems are directly attached to the body of the fruit without any intermediate element, such as a collar. It is for this reason that strawberries cannot be hulled in such machines.

   In order to allow the mechanical tailing of strawberries, the present invention relates to a machine in which the parallel stems, constituting the inclined belt at the top of which the fruits are poured, are arranged transversely with respect to the axis of the shaft. machine and are animated by a rotational movement which, reversing from one rod to the next, is not continuous, but alternating, so that the tails of strawberries having been pulled and torn by pinching between two rods, are returned to the / surface of the belt to then present itself between two other rods which make them pass directly under the belt, the cutters, trimmed or not, and the strawberry tails being forced to move on the surface of the belt by a frame which,

   animated by an alternating rectilinear movement and an up and down movement, acts as a broom.

   In any case, the invention will be well understood and its advantages, as well as other characteristics, will become apparent from the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing showing, by way of nonlimiting example, a form. execution of this hulling machine; - Fig. 1,2 and 3 are, at different scales, of $

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 front and side views respectively in elevation and in plan from above; - Fig. 4 is a view in transverse vertical half-section; - Fig. 5 and 6 are partial views in longitudinal vertical section, in two positions.

   In this drawing,: designates a frame whose inclined upper part supports, by means of bearings not shown, rods 3, which, arranged parallel to each other and transversely to the longitudinal axis of the machine , each have a rubber coating 4, so as to define an inclined belt extending over the entire length of the machine. At the upper end of this belt are tipped the unhulled strawberries, while at its lower end are collected the hulled strawberries.

   Below this mat, the frame 2 carries a passage 5 which, inclined in the opposite direction to said mat, collects and evacuates the tails and flanges of the strawberries. Above the aforementioned mat, are placed watering ramps 6, so that tailing takes place on wet strawberries.

   Each of the rods% 6 carries, at one of its ends, a pinion placed outside the frame 2. For a rod, this pinion is placed on the right side of the machine and is designated for example by 7a; For the next rod, this pinion is placed on the left side of the machine and is designated by 7b.

  From one rod to another, the pinions are therefore alternated. At both ends of the frame are placed axles carrying toothed wheels 8a-9a for the right side and 8b-9b respectively for the left side. On each of the faoes of the machine is placed a long chain respectively 10a-10b which meshes, one, with the pinions 7a and the toothed wheels Sa - 9a and, the other, with the pinions? B and the toothed wheels 8b- 9b.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   At the lower part of the frame 2 is placed a geared motor assembly 12 which, by means of a belt 13, drives a pulley 14 wedged on a transverse shaft 15 carrying at its ends two respectively discs 16a-16b. Each of them carries an eccentric axis 17a-17b respectively, to which a connecting rod 18a-18b respectively is articulated. whose role is to actuate a lever 19a - 19b respectively. This mounted oscillating at 21 on the frame serves as an attachment point, at its free end, to the two ends of the chain 10a - 10b respectively.

   It can therefore be seen that the geared motor unit 12 imposes on the pinions 7a - 7b and therefore on the rods ¯3, an alternating rotational movement, since the levers 19a - 19b are driven by an oscillating movement and therefore give the chains 10a 10b an alternating rectilinear displacement movement.

   However, it should be noted that the axes 17a - 17b on which the two connecting rods 18a - 18b rest are diametrically opposed with respect to the motor shaft 15. The result is that the oscillating movements of the levers 19a - 19b are offset and that in this way the chains 10a - 10b move in the opposite direction to each other, which leads to a reverse rotational movement from one rod 3 to the next.

   The operating mode of this strawberry hulling machine is then easily understood: the strawberries being tipped at the upper end of the belt, tend, by their own weight and by the inclination of this belt, to roll on it. . They are however retained, because their tails get caught between two neighboring rods 3 which turn in the opposite direction to each other. The traction thus exerted on the shank, while the cutter is supported by its body on these

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 EMI5.1
 two rods, causes the tearing ') l>',; 1.61 the qUf '"liJ and of the collar. Given the dimensions of this collar, the tail and collar assembly could not, however, pass entirely between the- two rods which are rigorously juxtaposed against each other, which is why the rotational movement of the rods is alternated.

   This reversal of the direction of rotation of the two rods which have gripped the shank of a strawberry causes, in fact, immediately the rejection of this shank to the surface of the belt. Being then free on the carpet, this tail and its collar ended at a certain moment by presenting themselves obliquely or in any other favorable position between two rods which, by turning, make them very quickly pass under the carpet. The tails and collars thus torn off fall into the corridor 5, which evacuates them to the outside.

   For their part, the hulled strawberries roll slowly over the surface of the belt towards its lower end and are collected there. However, to activate this movement of the hulled cutters and above all to force the non-stemmed cutters to move on the surface of the belt and to present themselves in a favorable position between two rods animated by a reverse rotational movement, the machine , object of the invention, comprises in its upper part below the sprinkling ramps 6, a member acting in a way like a broom without damaging the strawberries.

   This member is constituted by a frame 22 which carries oblique bars 23 constituting the comb bodies whose teeth are formed by rubber tongues or other flexible material 24, ar two transverse rods 25, this frame is suspended laterally from four closed chains 26 arranged two

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 two on both sides of the @ @nine. These charnes each pass over two pinions 27, one of which is mounted idle on a journaling axis in a bearing of the frame 2, while the other is wedged on an axis which, also journaling in a bearing of the frame, carries another pinion 28. On each face of the machine are thus placed two pinions 28 with which another closed chain 29 meshes.

   On the carrier axis of one of the pinions 27 and of the pinion 28 is, moreover, wedged another pinion 31, with which engages a closed chain 32 passing over a pinion 33 wedged on a drive shaft 34. This shaft receives, in fact, its rotational movement of the motor-reduction unit 12 by two toothed wheels 35 and 36 and by a chain 37.

   By rotating, the geared motor unit therefore causes the continuous displacement of the two lower side chains 32 and, consequently, that of the two upper chains 29 and the four upper chains 26. These chains 26 moving in the same direction and at equal speed , the frame 22 which supports the combs 23-24 is thus driven by a combined movement of reciprocating rectilinear movement and of an up and down movement.

   Indeed, the cross members 25 which enslave the frame 22 to the chains 26 move successively behind forwards in the low position, the tabs 24 then moving the strawberries on the surface of the belt, then from bottom to top, from front to back in position. high, the tabs 24 then being released above the belt and the strawberries, and finally, from top to bottom so that the tabs 24 again come into contact with the strawberries.

   The operating cycle of the frame 22 emerges, moreover, from Figures 5 and 6 in which: - said frame 22 is shown at the start of the forward position, that is to say of the position of use in Figure 5 ; - said frame 22 is shown during its

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 EMI7.1
 return position, i.e. '.Í, c3 its position is not u:, .. s.cr, in figure 6.

   It is obvious that the whole mechanism of this machine is concealed under housings which are not shown in the drawing. Only the openings for the inlet of the hulled cutters, the outlet of the stemmed cutters and the outlet of the shanks and flanges appear.

   In the event that it measures approximately two meters long by one meter wide, this machine can stalk around 400 to 500 kgs of strawberries per hour.

   As goes without saying, the invention is not limited to the sole embodiment of this stripping machine, which has been indicated above by way of example; it embraces, on the contrary, all variant embodiments, regardless of the mechanisms used to give the rods their reverse reciprocating rotation movement from one rod to the next, and to give the upper frame, forming a brush, its movement alternating rectilinear and its up and down movement. This is how, moreover, this frame can be replaced by an endless member which, rotating continuously in the manner of an endless belt, carries the oblique bars 23 whose tongues 24 are called to move the cutters. on the surface of the stems 3 - 4.
