 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   Pour mieux faire ressortir les caractéristiques de l'invention et pour faciliter sa. Dise en pratique, plusieurs réalisations alternatives du tube expansible et de Garnitures terminales pour lesdits tubes seront décrites ci-après, en se référant aux dessins annexés, dans lesquels:   la figure @ représente, en coupe, la réalisation la plus   simple d'un tube expansible monté sur des supports faisant   partie d'une   machine textile; la figure 2 représente un montage typique d'un tube   ex=     pansible   avec   garnitures   terminales démontables; la figure 3 est une   demi-coupe   de l'une des parties   termina.les d'un   tube expansible, avec sa garniture démontable, en position correcte d'utilisation;

   la figure 4 est une vue latérale de la garniture terminale selon la figure 3; les figures 5' et 6 sont des vues semblables aux figuras 3 et 4, représentant une réalisation différente, la figure 6 comportant une coupe partielle selon la ligne VI-VI de la figure 5;

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

  In the weaving workshops, it is customary to review, at a time, three sets of warp per third, one of which contains 18 looms, one ^ -. beam, ready, spare, and a third beam ready for the development of a new oroviss.year of warp threads. This condition results in costly expenses in additional solids and a considerable amount of 7¯'nn.comhro.ment.

  The present invention relates to means for eliminating these constraints.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Although the invention relates, in the first place, to the. The flexible chain of weaving looms, it is also applicable to beams of other textile machines, such as knitting machines.

   According to the invention, the beam comprises an expandable tube adapted to receive, .. warping, warp yarns, said tube being provided with end parts suitable for mounting said beam in a textile machine. The expandable tube may be conditioned to cooperate with end fittings forming part of the textile machine, said linings being, if necessary, specially adapted for this purpose. Alternatively, the beam can be provided with removable end linings, such as journals, brake drums and flanges, conditioned so as to facilitate the assembly of the flexible end in a textile machine, respectively / cooperate with components, such as the braking mechanism of the textile machine.

   By expandable tube should be understood a tube of relatively inexpensive material, for example of cardboard or of plastic, so that these tubes can be discarded after use. Under these conditions the warp threads can be wound up on the expandable tube, where they then remain until their use. At this time the demountable end gaskets are fixed to the end parts of the expandable tube, said end parts remaining free during warping, after which the beam is ready for use; in a textile machine, for example a job.

   When the lensouple is empty, the end fittings can be dismantled to be attached to another expandable tube with a new supply of warp threads, while the empty tube can be discarded.

  Consequently, it will suffice to provide, for each trade, a set of terminal fittings, which considerably reduces the financial investment and the necessary storage space.

   The invention is applicable, in particular, to the well known method of warping, in which there is no need to

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 flanges to retain the warp yarns in position since in this case the end packings do not have flanges which otherwise would have to be fitted to the expandable tube prior to warping.

   The removable terminal linings can be of any suitable construction, but preferably the expandable tube will be such as to allow a slight deformation of its end parts by said linings, when these are fixed to the tube, so as to ensure perfect immobilization of said linings. and CI preventing any relative movement between said end packings and the expandable tube, when the assembled beam is employed in the machine.

  By way of example, several embodiments will be described below.

   To better highlight the characteristics of the invention and to facilitate its. In practice, several alternative embodiments of the expandable tube and of end fittings for said tubes will be described below, with reference to the appended drawings, in which: Figure @ represents, in section, the simplest embodiment of a tube expandable mounted on supports forming part of a textile machine; FIG. 2 represents a typical assembly of an ex = pansible tube with removable end fittings; Figure 3 is a half-section of one of the end parts of an expandable tube, with its removable gasket, in the correct position of use;

   Figure 4 is a side view of the end gasket according to Figure 3; Figures 5 'and 6 are views similar to Figures 3 and 4, showing a different embodiment, Figure 6 including a partial section along the line VI-VI of Figure 5;

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 Figures 7 and 8 are views similar to figures
5 and 6, showing an alternative embodiment, the sectioned part of FIG. 8 being taken along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7; Figures 9 and 10; 11 and 12; 13 and 14; 15 and 16 are views similar to FIGS. 3 and 4 and showing other possible embodiments.

   Referring to the drawings, the simple embodiment shown in Figure 1 comprises an expandable tube 20, for example of cardboard, the hollow of which fits, at both ends, with hard friction, on journals 21 of any known and suitable construction. to allow the assembly to be rotatably mounted in a textile machine, such as a loom, a knitting machine or a warping machine.

   Each of the journals has three threaded holes 22 equidistant, staggered on its periphery, and the tube 20 is provided, towards its two ends, with three equidistant openings in corresponding positions, so that after fitting of said journal in the end of the tube , the latter can be immobilized by inserting screws 23, through said openings made in the tube, in the threaded holes of the journal. Removable flanges, as indicated by 24 in Figure 1, can be mounted on the tube in order to delimit the position of the warp threads wound on the tube.

  The assembly described is completed by terminal mounts (not shown) known in textile machines, permanently mounted or removable on the journals. Said terminal frames may be constituted by brake drums, in the case of a loom or of a knitting machine, or by control pulleys in the case of a warping machine.

   Figure 2 shows a typical embodiment of an expandable tube with removable end fittings. The expandable tube is made of cardboard or the like; the bore of both ends of this tube must not meet tolerances too

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 precise than the tube 20 of Figure 1. Each terminal frame has its own brake drum 26 carrying, on its outer face, a pin or axial journal suitable for mounting the assembly in a textile machine.

   The immobilization of said end mounts on the end parts of the tube 25 can be done in essentially variable ways, several possible constructions being illustrated in the following figures.

   In the embodiment-according to Figures 3 and 4, the end fitting is made up of two parts, one of which comprises the braking tab 26 and the other comprises the pivot or turret 27. these two parts being conditioned to tighten. between them the extrem.e part of the tube 35 by deforming the latter. The journal is mounted in a hub 28 constituting the central part of a circular plate 29, a cylindrical ring or collar 30 projecting on the face opposite the journal of said plate 29, The collar 30 is externally. conical, over most of its length, and adjusted to fit into the hollow of the end of the tube 25.

  The other part of the end lining comprises a side ring 31 extending radially from the brake drum inwards, as well as a cylindrical collar 32 projecting from the inner edge of said ring 31 and extending into the same. direction than the brake drum. The internal surface of the collar 32 is of a conformation corresponding to the external surface of the collar 30 and adjusted so as to fit over the end part of the tube. The two parts are assembled by means of bolts 33 passing through juxtaposed holes respectively of the plate 39 and of the ring, II, onto which nuts 34 are screwed in order to tighten, one against the other, the two parts of the terminal packing.

   By tightening the nuts 34 on the bolts. 33, one causes the expansion of the end part of the tube, dui is thus firmly clamped between the two collars 30

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

 and 32. A series of buttonholes staggered along the tube 25 have been provided to receive the knots of the threads to be wound on said tube; in figure 3 one of these buttonholes is indicated by 35.

   The construction shown in rigs 5 and 6 is similar to that of Figures 3 and 4 in that it comprises two parts, one of which comprises the brake drum 26 and the other comprises the pivot or journal. 27. This one is mounted. in a hub 40 constituting the central part of a circular plate 41, and a ring or collar 42 protrudes on the face opposite the journal of said plate 41. The collar 42 is of conical shape over part of its length; however this. taper is oriented in the direction opposite to that of collar 30 in Figure 3; In addition, said collar 42 is externally provided with a series of axial corrugations, as is evident from the part. sectioned in Figure 6.

   The other part of the end lining comprises a side ring 43 extending in a radial plane of the brake drum, as well as an annular collar 44 integral with the inner edge of said ring 43. Part of the inner surface of the collar 44 is slightly offset towards the rear, this part widening in a direction opposite to the canicity of the collar 42, so as to accommodate a series of corners or curved elements 45, one of which is shown in Figure 6 It is obvious that these wedging elements can be provided in any suitable number.

  Each of the wedging elements 45 has a slot 46 traversed by a rivet or similar element 47 immobilized in a corresponding hole in the collar 44 and conditioned to retain the wedging elements inside the collar, while allowing a axial movement relative to said collar. The inner surface of each wedging element is provided with corrugations corresponding to the oudultens of the collar 42. Corresponding holes in the elements 41 and 43 are crossed by

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 flat head bolts 48, on which are screwed nuts 49 for tightening against one another of the two parts.

   For the application of the end seal, the
 EMI7.1
 collar t is introduced into the end of the tube 25, and the collar 4 with the wedging elements!: t2., is slipped on said tube, after which the elements 48 and are tightened against each other. other, by means of bolts 48 and nuts 49. By this tightening the wedge elements are. pushed by the element 41 so as to urge the end of the tube which, as a result, is deformed and firmly squeezed between the collar 42 and the corners integral with the collar 44, Due to this constraint, the end part of the tube adopts a corrugated and partially conical shape, so that this fixing resists any tendency of the entire end fitting to rotate relative to the tube.

 be supported, in a rotary manner, on a journal or other support means integral with a textile machine; a hole 58 has been provided in order to cooperate with a crankpin or the like forming part of the machine. As in the example described above, the collar 51 with the elements 52 acting as wedges is slipped over the end part of the tube 25 and the collar 54 is introduced into the hollow of said part of the tube.

   The rib 50 is provided with a series of tall threaded 59, into which are introduced the screws 60 passing through corresponding holes in the flange 55 and, by tightening the screws, the rib 50 and the flange 22 are brought together, so that the end of the tube is enclosed between the inner collar 54 and the wedging elements 52 so as to take a partially conical shape,
In figures 9 and 10, one of the parts of the end fitting comprises a collar 70, as well as a hub 72 provided with a central bore. 73 and a hole 74 which can cooperate with a control crank pin or the like, said part being, therefore, similar to the corresponding part shown in Figures 7 and 8.

   However, the outer surface of the collar has an annular turning 75 of shallow depth; a peripheral annular edge 76 of the flange 71 overhangs said collar 70. The other part of the end fitting is made up of three arched sections 77 joined by means of bolts 78 and nuts 79, so as to constitute an annular element capable of being contracted. by tightening the bolts and nuts: One of the end faces of each section has a projection 80, while the other end face has a complementary notch 81, each of the projections fitting into the notch of the adjacent section, so as to maintain said sections in perfect alignment.

   Each of the sections also has an arcuate groove 82, said grooves of the three sections

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

 being connected so as to form an annular continuous groove in which the flange 76 fits loosely. After the glue [- has been introduced into the end of the tube / and the mutually assembled sections 77 have been slid over said tube , the bolts 78 and the nuts 79 are tightened so as to contract the ring formed by said sections, so that part of the tube is compressed in the bar turning 75. The sections 77 can act as a brake drum, when the beam is mounted in a textile machine.

   In this example, a sheet metal flange 83 is wedged on the tube by means of screws passing through holes made in
 EMI9.1
 a ring 8 'integral with the flange 83. The screws 8 may be wood screws, which are screwed into the tube 25 in the same way as into the wood. The flanges 83 should act as stopping elements for the chain wire wound on the tube, and similar flanges may be provided in all the other beams formed in accordance with the invention. The flanges thus formed can be manufactured at a relatively low cost, so that they can be discarded with the expandable tube, after use of the warp threads wound on the beam.

   FIGS. 11 and 12 represent an end lining particularly suitable for use in a knitting machine and not comprising any brake drum.
