Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 7>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

   The invention relates to screw presses with friction control, and in particular to those of these presses of the type in which the flywheel moves axially with the screw and the slide.

   , In this kind of machines. until now, the flywheel was driven either by plates with a horizontal axis -fixed in the direction of the height, brought alternately into contact with said flywheel by one of their flat faces, or by flat rollers with axis vertical contacting alternately with the rim of the steering wheel and following the movements in height of the latter

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

The aforementioned plate control system is very cumbersome and the maneuvering of the plates, by levers,

   requires a great effort from the user who is dangerously exposed by falling parts in the event of breakage. As for the roller control system it has the disadvantage of having a mediocre output because of the low tangential speed of the flywheel resulting from the low value of the ratio of the diameter of the rollers to the diameter of the flywheel and from the limited speed of rotation of said rollers, this limitation resulting from the fact that they are controlled by gears. ovtro the axes of the ... cantilevered rollers are liable to bend under the effect of the force applied against the flywheel,

   which is very important as a result of the low inertia of these rollers to which we must even add an auxiliary flywheel. This bending of the axes of the rollers causes poor contact, hence a reduction in the driving force obtained by friction.

   The present invention relates to improvements made to presses of the type in question, in particular with a view to avoiding the various drawbacks indicated above.

   The invention is mainly characterized in that the driving of the flywheel, alternately in both directions, is effected by means of two drums, with vertical axes, which are fixed in the axial direction and whose dimension is in this sense, corresponds to the travel of the steering wheel @, Due only to this main arrangement, the commando drums already have a much greater inertia than the flat -mobile rollers

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 with the steering wheel - previously used.

   There will be .interest in. to further increase the inertia of said drums by giving them, in particular, a relatively large diameter.
 EMI3.1
 stopposle- car with large diameter drums the contact surface with the flywheel will be greater - hence increased efficiency - and the greater inertia will allow a lower application force to be employed and practically eliminate any risk of bending or shearing of the axes of the drums
 EMI3.2
 Advantage'userlient the flywheel and the two drums are housed, at the upper part of the frame in 'an ad hoc housing provided with a cover where are guide-

   the pivot axes of the drum supports and an extension of the screw.

   This prevents any warping of the screw and of said axes. In addition, this casing constitutes a
 EMI3.4
 effective protection of 1 tut ilateur in the event of the screw breaking.

   Next 'another feature of the-
 EMI3.5
 invention, the dlentrainemenb drums are mounted on two supports, pivoting in opposite directions, connected to one another by the piston rod of a pressurized fluid double-acting cylinder, which piston is sol., lawful constanriient, by springs y to occupy a neutral position, that is to say for which the two
 EMI3.6
 the drums are out of contact with the steering wheel this provision ensuring a very flexible com-tiande 11 é, steering wheel-screw-slide crew.

  Advantageously, moreover, each

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 drum is rotativently driven by an individual motor. This arrangement - eliminates the use of gears which usually connect the two drive members to give them opposite directions of rotation - allows the drums to be given a speed of rotation much greater than that of the rollers employed in the old systems, thus increase their kinetic energy and consequently.

   that of the flywheel for the same mass
Finally, another important feature of the invention resides in that the control system for the supply of the double-acting cylinder controlling the alternating application of the drums against the flywheel comprises an auxiliary switch whose.

   height position is adjustable relative to the. path of a control cam, integral with the slide, so that, depending on the position adopted, the descent control drum is disconnected from the steering wheel before the end of the descent travel of the crew mobile at a variable point of this stroke or remains coupled throughout the duration of this stroke *
This arrangement is very important because it makes it possible, in the case of a die-forging press, to vary the impact power of the machine at will and, thus, to considerably extend the range of work which it can perform.

   Other detailed characteristics of the invention will become apparent in the course of the present brief,

In these drawings (see fig, 2 and 3 1 designates the flywheel which is wedged by a key 2 on a conical bearing surface 3 of the screw 4, and comprises a friction lining 5; a nut 6 being mounted on a thread 7 of the screw 4 to maintain this flywheel in the axial direction The screw 4 preferably comprises several threads with large pitches, it passes through a nut 8 fixed in a housing of the frame 9 of the press, which nut is prevented from rotating by a key 10, while a lock nut 11 keeps it in position in the direction

 axial, This screw 4 is extended in its upper part,

   by -a smooth cylindrical bearing 12 which is guided and slides in a bore 13 of the cover 14 close the casing 15, provided at the upper part of the frame 9 to house the flywheel, At its lower part the screw 4 comprises -a bearing receiving the pulley brake 16, wedged by the key 17, and allô enters the slide 18 where it bears on -a grain 19, and where it is retained by means of a screwed ring 20 which rests on another ring, 21 , screwed into said slide
The flywheel 1 is driven by friction, alternately by the drums 22 and 23 (pin 2 and 4) which have a height determined according to the vertical travel of the flywheel and are designed to present a great heavy inertia allowing, when turning at high speed ,

   to give said flywheel the necessary kinetic energy.

  These drums turn freely in the direction of arrows 24 and 25 (fig. 2) on their axes 26 and 27 which are carried by levers 28 and 29, the double pivots, 30 and 31, of which are journaled in spans, on the one hand of the frame 9, on the other hand of the cover IL). The arms 281 and 291 of these levers are connected, by yokes 32 and 33, and rods 34 and 35 to a double-acting piston 36 moving in a cylinder 37, closed by the funds 38 and 39, and which is requested constantly returning to a neutral position by the opposing springs 40 and 41, the tension of which is adjustable by screwing or unscrewing the ends 38 and 39.

   Orifices 42 and 43 allowing the arrival and departure of the pressurized fluid which is distributed by the solenoid valves 44 and 45, connected

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

 to cylinder 37 via pipes 46 and 47, the fluid arriving from the source via pipe 48.

   A motor 49 drives the drum 22 by belts 50, a second motor 51 drives the drum 23 by belts 52, these belts being here, elastic due to the fact that the axis 30 or 31 does not coincide with that of the corresponding motor pulley.-, To stop the rotation of screw 4, a braking device is provided (fig.

   5) which comprises, in combination with the pulley 16 already mentioned two jaws 53 and 54, pivoting on a pin 55 carried by the slide 18, the jaw 53 is here secured to a cylinder 56, closed by a bottom 57, in which evolves' an extended piston 58 whose rod 59 passes through the jaw 54 and is terminated by a thread receiving adjustment nuts 60 and 61. A spring 62 constantly tends to ensure the clamping of the jaws 53 and 54 on the pulley 16 by means of fittings 63 and 64 fixed to the jaws.

   Fluid under pressure is admitted into the cylinder 56, under the control of a solenoid valve 65 'by a flexible pipe 66 connected to the orifice 67 of said cylinder, to cause the release of the brake prior to the movement of the screw, as we will see it later
Of course, the arrangement of the cylinder-piston-spring assembly, with respect to the jaws, could be different, the main thing being that the spring and the piston control the tightening and the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 loosening of both jaws at the same time
Referring to fig. 6, we see, on the right a smooth rule 68,

   fixed to the frame 9 by screws 69 and 70 This rule supports a switch 71, of high travel -commanding the opening of the circuit of the solenoid valve 44 and that of the solenoid valve 65- adjustable in height and lockable in position on this rule by screw 72, and a. another switch 73, of the limit switch -commanding the opening of the circuit of the solenoid valve 45 and the closing of that of the solenoid valve 44- adjustable like the previous one and lockable by screw 74. These switches are intended to be actuated by a cam 75, fixed to the bucket slide 18.

   To the left of this same fig. 6, we see the device provided to make it possible to modify the striking power of the machine in the presently described case of a die-forging press. This device comprises a rule 76, fixed to the frame 9 by screws 77 and 78 and supporting an electric switch 79, which is movable on this rule and can be blocked by a screw 80, in the chosen position - spotted on a jack 81 - corresponding to the desired impact power.

  Lower will be. the position of the switch and the stronger the striking power will be, the maximum power corresponding to a lower position where said switch cannot be met by a control cam 82, fixed to the slide 18. This also bears an index 83 whose point is placed on the same plane as the vernier 81, already mentioned and visible on the front face of the frame.

These switches are housed, as can be seen in FIG. 6, in compartments 84, 85 provided in the upright, of: frame 9, to prevent deterioration. The lllachinist at his workstation, presses the two buttons 88-89 at the same time or on the pedal boat 90, thus closing the circuit of the solenoid valves 45 and 65

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

As a result of the closing of the solenoid valve circuit 65, pressurized fluid is admitted into the brake cylinder 56, which causes the jaws to loosen.

   On the other hand, due to the closing of the circuit of the solenoid valve 45, pressurized fluid is admitted into the cylinder 37 through the orifice 43, to the left of the piston 36 (fig. 2) which therefore moves. immediately to the right and pivot the lever 28-281, which presses the drum 22 against the flywheel 1.

   As this drum turns in the direction of arrow 24, the flywheel is requested to turn, more and more quickly) in the direction of arrow 241, causing the screw 4 which, by screwing into the nut 8, pushes the slider 18 downwards to perform the forging work, It should be noted in this regard that by laying their rotational movement, which is accelerating until the tangential speeds of the flywheel and the drum are equal, the flywheel and screw store considerable kinetic energy to which is added the live power of the masses: flywheel-screw-slide to the tool, acquired during the descent movement.

   When the slide arrives at the bottom of its stroke * the cam 75 actuates the switch 73 which opens the circuit of) 'solenoid valve 45 thus allowing the fluid previously admitted into the cylinder 37 through this same orifice to evacuate through the orifice 43. - and closes the circuit of the solenoid valve 44 thus allowing pressurized fluid to enter through the orifice 42, into said cylinder 37, so that the piston 36 is now pushed towards the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

 As a result, the lever 29-291 pivots, and the drum 23, which rotates in the direction of arrow 25, comes into contact with the flywheel 1 which is thus urged to turn in the direction of arrow 251 and therefore to reverse its movement,

   which it can do since all of its kinetic energy has been absorbed in the performance of the tool's function. Consequently, the screw 4 unscrews from the nut 8 and brings the slide 18 back to the top dead center.

   When this is reached, the cam 75 actuates the switch 71 which opens the circuit of the solenoid valve 44, thus allowing the fluid previously admitted into the cylinder 37 to be discharged through the orifice 42.

  The piston 36 is then pushed to the right by the res. exits 41, to a neutral position where Inaction of this spring is balanced with that of spring 40
As the switch 71 also controls the opening of the circuit of the solenoid valve 65, the fluid is sent, at the start of the cycle, through the orifice 67, into the brake cylinder 56 (fig. 5). evacuates; the spring 62 then pushes the piston 58 to the right, thus returning. the jaws 53-54 a.u contact with the pulley 16, so that the screw 4 and the flywheel 1 are immobilized in neutral. high . To avoid any accident, he must press both buttons simultaneously While the slide is lowering,
1'. Interrupting the press of a single button causes

 <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 immediate stopping of the slide.

   The control by the pedal 90 is reserved for hot work, The user sets up the work pieces by means of pliers, A pressure on the said pedal causes the movement of the slide
In both cases, the action on the buttons or on the pedal must cease during the ascent stroke so that the automatic stop at top dead center can occur under the conditions described above.

   A stop button (not shown) is placed in the control circuit, it allows to interrupt at any time the supply of this circuit.
As has already been said, it is pos-. It is possible, in the present machine, to modify the striking power, and this by adjusting, beforehand, the position of the switch 79 on rule 76
Normally, that is to say when the full impact power of the machine is used, switch 79 is at the bottom of said rule and cam 82, which follows the movements of the coil. , do not meet her,.

   If, on the other hand, you want to reduce the striking power, it suffices to place the switch 79 on the trajectory of the carne 82, in one of the positions marked on the vernier. 81 and corresponding to the chosen striking power.
Under these conditions, in fact, when the handwheel-screw-slide assembly performs its descent stroke, the cam 82 encounters and actuates the switch 79 which opens the circuit of the solenoid valve 45,

   As a result, the drum 22 leaves contact with the flywheel 1 ... The latter is therefore no longer rotated.
