<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The present patent relates to a device making light rays at very high intensity, non-blinding and means applied for its control.
The device envisaged is mainly intended to be mounted inside the passenger compartment or cabins of motor vehicles and put into service at the discretion of the driver according to the needs to protect the safety of the driving of the vehicle when it appears in sight of the driver. conduct a disturbing light intensity such as that coming from the headlights of vehicles traveling in the opposite direction, using appropriate control means which will be discussed below.
The device comprises for this purpose, a plexiglass or equivalent material plate, for example yellow-orange or other suitable already attenuating the intensity of a light source, of any suitable shape which can be brought by pivoting in or out. out of sight of the driver of the vehicle by an appropriate control, one side of which over all or part of its height and width on the left (conversely on the right) is provided with a grid tight formed by shallow grooves arranged perpendicular to each other and over the other part of its width and height to the right (inversely to the left) in full or not only,
grooves extending parallel in the horizontal direction and advantageously formed by the extensions of the grooves appearing in the envisaged grid, which device is mounted articulated on a hinge with return spring fixed to the roof or to the apron of the vehicle and whose Angular movements are slaved to an appropriate command placed under the control of the driver of the vehicle.
In an alternative embodiment, the grooved plate could be totally or partially coated with a metallic paint.
In the description below, the object of the invention will be described more explicitly, and by way of example means for its control, with the aid of the appended schematic drawings which represent, by way of explanation and not limitation, to know:
Fig. 1, a plan view of the device according to the invention mounted on a hinge.
Fig. 2, a sectional elevation in longitudinal direction in the front of the windshield and of the body of a motor vehicle provided with the device shown in FIG. 1 and placed horizontally, parallel to the ceiling where then it is inoperative.
Figs. 3 and 4 show, by way of example, remote control modes for the pivoting maneuver of the device.
Fig. 5 shows an alternative embodiment in a construction detail of a hinge allowing the device to be moved forward or backward depending on the height of the driver's visual field.
Fig. 6 shows an alternative embodiment of the plate shown in FIG. 1.
Referring to FIG. 1, 1 shows a plexiglass plate, for example yellow-orange in color, comprising in its left part a a grid formed by fine grooves perpendicular to each other, in the example vertical and horizontal, while in its left part a. right part 1b, only the horizontal grooves remain. As already indicated, the reverse arrangement can be applied for driving on the right. The envisaged grooves can be established to cover all or part of the plate 1.

The edge of this plate 1 is fixed, see Figs 1 and 2, by a bolt or the like 7 between the branches 5 of the sleeve 4 of a hinge composed of the sleeves 4 - 4 'assembled on the hinge pin 3a that supports the central tab 3 integral with the fixing plate 2.
In the example, the rotation of 4 is controlled by the presence of a coil spring 6 externally surrounding the articulation axis 3a of the hinge, one end 6a of which is fixed in the tab 3, while its other end 6b is engaged in a notch of the periphery of the sleeve 4. This has the effect of maintaining the plate 1 in the horizontal position under the torsional force given by the spring 6, see FIG. 20
To use the device on a motor vehicle, for example, see Fig. 2, in front of the window 14 held in the upper 13 and lower 15 parts of the vehicle body, the hinge plate 2 is fixed on the inside face of 13 with the interposition of a plate 12.
This plate 12 is pierced with a hole 11 through which the cable 8 of a flexible transmission 10 type "Bowden" or the like passes, for example. The end of the cable 8 passes through the flat part of the socket 4 and ends with a stop 9.
The other end of cable 8, see Fig. 3, is introduced in parallel and fixed at 9 'on a sector 18 articulated at 17 in or on the socket of a support plate 16 fixed, for example, to the edge apron of the vehicle. - hicle or other suitable place. This plate 16 may carry a curvilinear arm 20 provided with perforations 22 serving to immobilize the operating lever 23 integral with the movable sector 18, which lever 23 carries for this purpose a pusher 23a provided with a spring and an external push button. before coming to a stop in one of the perforations 22.
In the example, it is easily understood that by lowering the lever 23 in the direction of arrow a, see FIG. 3, the hinge sleeve 4 will be pulled downwards by the traction then operated by the cable 8 at 9 and the plate 1 will pivot around the hinge pin 3a in the direction of the arrow b, see Fig. 2, and will be placed in front of the view of the driver, following the value of the corresponding angular displacement, given by the operation of the lever 23.
The control device shown in FIG. 3, can be placed on the tube enclosing the vehicle's steering wheel shaft. To this end, see the outline of the collar 24 shown in broken lines, provided with clamping tabs 25 traversed by one or more bolts passed through perforations at one end of the fixing plate 16.
In Fig. 4, there is shown an electromagnet 27 fixed to an attachment lug 28 comprising a core 26 to which is fixed at 29, the cable 8 of the sheath 10. It is understood that by closing the switch 30, the core is drawn into the solenoid and operates as above, moving the cover plate 1.
In the case of FIG. 3, by raising the lever 23, the torsion of the hinge spring 6 automatically raises the protection plate 1, as when opening the switch 30.
Instead of the cable control 10, as indicated in the examples, it is possible to substitute a control by an articulated rod, either for an operating lever provided with detents or the equivalent, or by means of an electromagnet, in order to bring the protection plate 1 into the desired position. This embodiment is very easy for those skilled in the art.
In an alternative embodiment, see Fig. 5, 5 branches of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 1, are elongated according to 5a and provided with a longitudinal slot 5b through which a bolt 7a with a wing nut clamping nut passes, which enables the movement of the protection plate 1 to be fixed further forward or further back, at the at the discretion of the driver and depending on the type of vehicle.
Finally, in FIG. 6, there is shown a protective plate 1, by way of example of rectangular shape comprising parts 1a and 1b, as described above, but also a lower edge 1c coated or not with a metallic paint.
As already indicated, the fixing of the protection device can be carried out by applying the hinge 4-4 ′ on the face 15a of the edge 15 of the vehicle apron. In this case, the plate 1 will pass from the horizontal position to the effective position, being raised in the direction of arrow c, see Fig. 5, to then be returned, as above, by the hinge return spring 6 to the horizontal position.
Thus, depending on the type or dimensions of the vehicle, the most appropriate fixing method will be chosen.
From the foregoing, it should be understood as also coming within the scope of the present patent, the use of all the means, some embodiments of which have been given by way of example, for remote control, by hand or by means of electro-mechanical, a protective plate 1 making light rays at very high intensity, non-blinding and packaged as substantially described and shown.
It goes without saying that the use and the application of the protection plate 1 as envisaged, can extend to fields other than that relating to the driving of motor vehicles subjected to the intensity of the. headlights of vehicles traveling in the opposite direction, for example to protect the sight of operators subjected to the glare of a blinding light, such as that coming from welding with electric arc or the like, solar rays, molten materials , etc.
