Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

 EMI5.1
 les phénomènes vibratoires,notaymcîLnt z-,u:

  ,-. vitesses crLt5.CjLk5

 <Desc/Clms Page number 6>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

   In unidirectional coupling devices, also called "freewheel", which use the jamming of balls or rollers, centrifugal force plays a large role in the duration and behavior of the components present.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   When the rotational speeds are high, the pressure exerted on the rollers or on the balls, by the centrifugal force and the return springs of the rollers or balls, rapidly digs a groove at the location of the raceway of these rollers or balls . On the other hand, the friction of the rollers on their raceway forces them to turn on themselves in contact with the cams and, therefore, to make their imprint there.

   It has turned out that the best solution consists in using a smooth hub and cams with internal ramps carried by a crown, the rolling members being interposed between the hub and said ramps. In this way, the friction is appreciably reduced, since the centrifugal force tends to move the rollers away from the hub.

   However, to provide the wedging rollers with immediate and effective intervention, it has been necessary to provide means which urge them elastically towards their wedging position by pushers arranged in a particular position and in a particular orientation, which are the main object of the present invention.

   According to the invention, the elastic pushers in question are slidably mounted in housings. provided for this purpose in the body of the crown itself.

   According to a preferred arrangement, the geometric axis of each pusher passes through the center of the ball or of the roller with which it cooperates and it forms, outwardly, with the bisector of the angle formed by the planes tangent to the ball or to the roller at its points of contact with the jamming surfaces, an angle of value between 0 and 30.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

   According to another characteristic of the invention, the end of the pusher in contact with the billo or roller has a convex shape, so as not to influence the ball or roller in directions other than that assigned to it and also for allow it to free itself by following the profile of the jamming cam.,
In a preferred embodiment, the pusher is slidably mounted in a guide mounted fixedly in the housing provided in the crown, and it is provided with stop elements which limit its backward movement in the guide, so that the ball or roller does not could strike and damage the inner end of the guide.

   The invention will be better understood on reading the following description and on examining the appended drawings which show, by way of non-limiting example, one embodiment of the invention.

   On these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a diametrical section of a unidirectional coupling according to the invention, taken along line 1-1 of FIG. 2.

   Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same coupling taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1, a quarter of this Figure being an exterior end view.

   Fig. 3 is a partial oblique section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2, and
Fig. 4 shows, on a larger scale, the detail of a pusher and its mode of action on the roller.

   Referring now to the drawings, it can be seen that the unidircetional coupling shown comprises a hub 1 which is intended to be mounted and fixed on a shaft.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 fixed or rotating, depending on the application. Soft ball bearings 2 threaded onto the hub 1 serve to support a sleeve 3 and two end plates 4 are respectively fixed to the two ends of this sleeve by means of screws 5. The sleeve 3 can be rotatable and carry, for example, a pulley or a chain wheel, or else, on the contrary, it can be fixed and made integral with a machine frame for example.

   The hub 1 has a cylindrical rolling track 6 while the sleeve 3 carries ramps 7. Rollers 8 are interposed between said raceway and said ramps; they are urged towards their wedging position by pushers 9 mounted so as to be able to slide in guides 11 force-fitted in oblique housings provided for this purpose in the sleeve 3.

  Compression springs 12 are arranged in the bottom of guides 11 to urge the pushers towards the rollers. We will come back to the guides and pushers in detail later.

   As a safety measure, to prevent the guides 11 from possibly moving, for example under the effect of vibrations, they are immobilized in their housings by means of needle screws 14 (see FIG. 3) mounted at the end in sleeve 3.

   To facilitate assembly of the assembly, the raceway 6 of the hub has a cheek 15 which is integral with it and an attached cheek 16, constituted by a washer held in place by the adjacent bearing 2, itself retained. by an elastic ring 17 housed in a corresponding groove @ of the hub.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

   For lubrication of the coupling, a filler plug 18, an overflow plug 19 and a drain plug 21 are provided.

   If we now refer more particularly to FIG. 4, it can be seen that the geometrical axis' common to the guide 11 and of the pusher 9a passes through the center of the roller 8 in the wedging position between the cylindrical path of the hub 1 and the ramp 7 of the sleeve 3. In addition, we called at the angle that tonifies planes tangent to said raceway and to said ramp respectively at the points of contact of the roller and of these jamming surfaces. We denote by XX 'the bisector of this angle. According to a preferred arrangement, the axis of the pusher 9a forms, towards the outside, with the bisector XX ', an angle of between 0 and 30. In addition, the end of the pusher which cooperates with the roller is convex.

   It can be seen that, in this arrangement, the axis of the pusher passes through the center of the roller, that the roller is constam- mont ', applied against the rotating parts, that the roller jamming actic is immediate, that 'a fraction of the centrifugal force exerted on the roller is balanced by the force of the spring, in the case where it is the sleeve which rotates, that excessive friction due to the pressure of the spring is avoided, precisely by using this action of centrifugal force, that a film of oil can remain permanently between the rollers and the hub weighing the rotation of the latter, and that finally, by a judicious choice of the angle which defines the orientation of the plunger and the value of the spring pressure, it is possible to avoid
 EMI5.1
 vibratory phenomena, notaymcîLnt z-, u:

  , -. speeds crLt5.CjLk5

 <Desc / Clms Page number 6>

It will be noted that, in the embodiment of Figs. 1 to 3, the pushers are cylindrical. To avoid, however, that the rollers risk matting the inner end of their guides pushing the pushers completely inside them, it is possible to provide elements which limit the pushing-in of the pushers so that they always remain protruding and receive the pressure from the rollers. For this purpose, each push-button can be fitted with a head like those of push-buttons 9a (Fig. 4) or 9b. The underside of the first is truncated and can come to bear against a seat of complementary shape of the guide, while the underside of the second is flat and can come to bear against the flat end of the guide.

   Finally, at 22, an air and oil evacuation orifice which passes through the wall of the guide has been indicated. This orifice could be replaced by any other equivalent means such as, for example, a longitudinal groove made in the guide or on the pusher.

   Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown which has been given by way of example; one can make numerous modifications accessible to those skilled in the art depending on the applications envisaged, without departing, for this, from the spirit of the invention.
