 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

the reaction is carried out in a weakly alkaline, neutral or weakly acidic medium, preferably at a pH of between 9 and 3.

To neutralize the hydracid which forms during the reaction, acid-binding agents such as sodium acetate are added to the solution at the start of the reaction, or else introduced in small portions during the reaction. , sodium or potassium carbonate or bicarbonate either in the form of a solid powder or in a concentrated aqueous solution.

However, aqueous solutions of sodium or potassium hydroxide can also be used. Adding small amounts of a wetting or emulsifying agent to the reaction mixture can help speed up the reaction.

The collation of the diazo compound of the amine corresponding to formula III with the coupling component corresponding to formula IV is made in a weakly acidic medium, neutral to alkaline, preferably at a pH between 5 and 12, at low temperatures, preferably between 0 and 30 C and especially between 0 and 10 C. It is necessary to choose the coupling conditions of such aorta that the reactive groups linked to the diazotization component and / or to the coupling component are not damaged, for example in alkaline medium between 0 and 5 C, in neutral to weakly acidic medium at temperatures up to
30 C depending on the diazide compound used.

Once the condensation or the coupling is complete, the reactive dye is released from its solution or its suspension previously neutralized, if necessary, with sodium or potassium chloride or precipitated with acid, then drained, washed and dried. .

These new water-soluble dyes containing at least one reactive group are suitable for dyeing leather, dyeing, padding and printing animal fibers such as wool and silk, synthetic polyamide fibers such as nylon, the "Rilsan" (registered trademark) of cellulosic fibers, such as cotton, flax, hemp, and regenerated cellulose fibers, such as viscose rayon, copper rayon, fibranne, ainal that mixtures thereof or articles made from these fibers.

The optimum application conditions vary depending on the type of fiber and the dyes used. Animal fibers and synthetic polyamide fibers are preferably dyed or printed in an acidic, neutral or weakly alkaline medium, for example in the presence of acetic acid, formic acid, sulfuric acid, sulphate of ammonium, sodium meta-phosphate, etc.

It is also possible to dye in an acetic or neutral bath in the presence of leveling agents such as polyoxethylated fatty amines or their mixtures with alkyl-polyglycol ethers and to neutralize or weakly alkalize the bath at the end of the dyeing in adding thereto small amounts of an alkaline reacting agent such as acid, sodium bicarbonate, sodium carbonate, etc. or Its compounds give an alkaline reaction on heat such as hexamethylene tetramine or urea. Finally, the bridge tinctures rinsed off thoroughly and possibly acidified with a little acetic acid.

In the dyeing and printing of fibers and articles of animal origin and fibers and articles based on synthetic polyamides, a less stable bonding often occurs between the dye molecule and the fiber. next
