Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

  Apparatus for repeatedly actuating an electrical switch at regular intervals.

   The present invention relates to an apparatus for repeatedly actuating an electrical switch at regular intervals and, more particularly, to an apparatus by which the duration of each operation (i.e. opening or switch closure) can be changed.

   According to the invention, the apparatus comprises a lever mounted so as to move the control member of the switch, one or more spaced apart pins movable in a closed path at a constant speed and passing through a position in which the lug or each of water comes into contact with the lever and thus temporarily moves it to actuate the switch, and a

 device for longitudinally changing the location on the lever.

   where the lug first comes into contact with the lever at each operation and thus the length of the path during which it remains in ./ contact with the lever and therefore the time during which the switch remains actuated * The switch and the lever are advantageously mounted, to move in unison so that the lever is brought closer
3t removed from the path of the lug (s) in order to modify the duration of each actuation of the switch.

   An embodiment of the apparatus will be described below, by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a side view of the apparatus showing the lever in an extreme position; and Figs. 2 and 3 are sections along the line XX of Fig.l showing respectively the two extreme positions of the lever.

   The apparatus comprises a base plate 1 on which is mounted a disc 2 (not visible in Fig.l). The disc 2 is mounted on a shaft 3 which is driven to rotate the disc.
2 in the direction of arrow Y, by an electric motor at constant speed (not shown). The disc 2 comprises a lug 4 which rises on its upper face at a location spaced from the axis of rotation of the disc. Thus, when the disc 2 rotates, the lug 4 follows a circular path. The base plate also carries a slider 5 which can be moved between the two extreme positions shown respectively in Figs. 2 and 3, by a device described below. Slide 5 carries a microswitch 6 comprising electrical connections 7 and 8.

   The microswitch 6 comprises an actuating plunger 9 and carries a lever 10 in contact with the plunger. The lever 10 is attacked by the lug 4 during part of its stroke, the length of the travel of the lug 4 during which it is in contact with the lever 10 and thus the time during which the plunger 9 of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 the switch remains depressed, depending on the longitudinal location on the lever where the latter is first attacked by the bit 4 during each rotation of the disc 2.

   In Figs. 2 and 3, the lug 4 is shown in the position in which it just comes into contact with the lever and, by comparing the two figures, one can see how the position of the slider 5 and thus of the lever 10 affects the length of the lever. travel of the lug during which it 'is in contact with the lever, and thus the actuation time of the switch. Fig. 2 shows the position of the slider for one. minimum time and Fig. 3 for a maximum time. By moving the slide 5 to any intermediate position, it is possible to obtain a corresponding actuation time of the switch.

   The slider 5 has a forked end presenting a notch 11 in which passes a guide pin 12 fixed at its lower end to the base plate 1 and at its upper end to a fixed support 13 or the like.

  The slider 5 is held against the base plate 1 by a small spring 14 (see Fig.l) in which the pin 12 is engaged. The end of the slider 5 remote from the forked end, is bent so as to be parallel to the base plate 1 and above it and is guided so as not to be able to move sideways in a guide bracket 15 carrying an adjustable stop bolt 16. The bracket 15 also carries an eccentric 17 mounted on a shaft 18 which passes through the adjacent end of the slide 5. By rotating the eccentric between the two extreme positions shown on the figures. Figs. 2 and 3, the slide 5 and thus the switch 6 and the lever 10 are moved in a corresponding manner.

   A scale calibrated in units of switch actuation time can be associated with the eccentric or the slide.

   If a microswitch is used, the switch is actuated, i.e. open or closed, almost immediately when lever 10 has been engaged by lug-4 and remains actuated until. 'that the lug 4 is released from the lever.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   Although only one lug 4 has been shown, the disc 2 may carry two or more lugs spaced at equal distances from each other around the axis of rotation of the disc when the switch is to be actuated from one side to the other. more frequently.

   Although the lug 4 has been shown as extending parallel to the axis of rotation, it may also extend outwardly from the periphery of the disc, for example radially,
Instead of the disc 2, any device may be provided for moving one or more lugs in a closed path during a part of which the lever is in contact with the lug. For example, the lug (s) can be mounted on a thin blood band or chain.

   The device is particularly intended for controlling the duration of the pulses emitted by a pulse generator intended for use in an automatic ventilation control device covered by Belgian Patent No. 653.533, but it can be used at many other purposes.
