<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS
DE CHARLEROI (ACEC) residing in Brussels DISCRIMINATOR OF THE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC ON
A PERREB WAY.
The present invention relates to a device intended in particular for controlling an automatic level crossing by means of static logic elements. In such an order, the level crossing maneuvering instructions result from several conditions that must be fulfilled simultaneously; among others, the occupation of the lane must correspond to the direction of traffic. It is therefore necessary to have control signals appearing for both of these directions.
We know that, in current practice, we have
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a chain of relays or equivalent elements which, for a given direction of circulation, determine the sending of a voltage from the station located upstream to the station located downstream. The discriminator device according to the invention, which supplies signals characteristic of each of the directions of movement, is intended to be associated with such a chain of elements.
It is characterized in that it comprises a set of four saturable transformers divided into two symmetrical groups supplying continuous output signals corresponding respectively to the two directions of flow, each comprising a first saturable transformer having a saturation winding, permanently supplied by a direct reference current, and a denaturing winding, the said first transformer being fed at the primary by a permanent alternating voltage and having its secondary connected to the supply line of the alternating voltage coming from the substation located upstream, for the direction of flow relative to the group in question, in series with the primary of a second saturable transformer, having a single saturation winding, the secondary of which supplies,
after rectification, the characteristic signal of the seras, the desaturation winding of said first transformer and the saturation winding of said second transformer being connected in series to the output of the group corresponding to the other direction of circulation.
The description below and the appended drawing relate to an exemplary embodiment of a device according to the invention.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The figure shows the electrical diagram of a device supplying continuous signals designated by R + and R - corresponding respectively to the normal direction of travel and to the reverse direction of travel on a railway track.
This is equipped with a chain of elements which determines, for the normal direction of circulation, the appearance of an alternating voltage at terminals A, coming from the station located upstream, which voltage must be transmitted, via terminals B, to the station located downstream while, for the opposite direction of circulation, this voltage appears at terminals B and must be transmitted to terminals A.
The device consists of four saturable transformers 1, 2, 3, 4 divided into two groups (1, 2) and (3, 4), symmetrically arranged and supplying respectively, depending on the case, signals R + and R - at terminals C and D. Transformers 1 and 3 have their primary supplied by a permanent alternating voltage taken from a line 5. If it is assumed that a train is traveling on the track in the normal direction, the voltage at terminals A is applied to the primary of transformer 2 through the secondary of transformer 1.
This has a saturation winding 6 permanently supplied by a reference direct current source 7 and a desaturation winding 8 which, as will be seen later, is not traversed by any current, so that the transformer 1 is saturated and that, therefore, all the voltage at terminals A refers to the primary of the transforma. tor 2. This has a saturation winding 9 connected
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
in series with the winding 8 of transformer1 of àorty, that it is not excited either and that the transformer 2 is not saturated; there is therefore a voltage at its second which, rectified by a rectifier 9, supplies the signal R +.
This is applied to the desaturation winding 10 of transformer 3 identical to transformer 1 in series with the saturation winding 11 of transformer 4 identical to transformer 2. The saturation winding 12 is, as for transformer 1, powered by a reference direct current supplied by a source 13 shown separately but which is normally the same as the source 7.
The flux created by this winding 12 is compensated by that created by winding 10 and a voltage therefore exists at the secondary of transformer 3 and is transmitted to terminals B through the secondary of transformer 4 saturated by its winding 11 so that its secondary voltage is zero and that the signal R-, obtained by rectifying this secondary voltage by means of a rectifier 13, does not exist. As the output of this rectifier is connected to the windings 8 and 9 of transformers 1 and 2, these windings are not energized as has been said above.
It is easy to see that in the case of a circu-. @ lation in the opposite direction to the normal direction, it is the signal R- which appears at the terminals D and that the voltage is transmitted from the terminals
B to terminals A.
