 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 5>

   Dans un tel appareil, un polymère   thermoplastique   en fusion ou dissous est amené à traverser le trou d'alimentation en liquide de filage 9 et l'alésage d'introduction 8 vers le trou de filage 12,   à   travers lequel il est extrudé   son,;;

     la forme d'un filament, Etant donné que la section transversale du trou de filage 12 n'est pas circulaire, comme décrit précédemment, le filament filé présente naturellement une forme en section transversale qui n'est pas circulaire,

 <Desc/Clms Page number 8>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 9>

     ctst percé de façon à s'étendre depuis l'espace libre 46 vers l'extérieur, Les plaques Métal- liques supérieure et inférieure 4 et 6, respectivement,

 <Desc/Clms Page number 10>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 11>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 12>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 13>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 14>

   En outre, en disposant plusieurs de ces plaques d'ajutage rotatives sur une filière commune, il est possible d'obtenir uno filière destinée à filer efficacement des multi- filaments, dans lesquels les filaments ont chacun leur tersion respective. that a circle and structural anisotropy relates to a structure in which, even if it is circular in shape) the internal arrangement of the constituent materials is not concentric,
Fibers whose bulk, covering property and particularly a remarkable gloss property are increased by such means that the cross section of the thermoplastic fibers is given other shapes than that of a circle, for example, a hoop shape. dumbbell, polygon and star as well as methods for their production have already been suggested and practically implemented (Japanese Patent Laid-Open Nos.

   20,770 of 1961, 5,268 of 1962 and 19,688 of 1965, British Patent No. 816,877, U.S. Patents Nos. 1,944,378, 2,373,892, 2,387,791, 2,843,449, 3,109,220.

  3,156,607 and 3,194,002, and Italian patent no. 546,143). The sheen afforded by such a non-circular cross-sectional yarn is caused by the light rays reflected from the planar parts of the cross-section of the fibers, since thin fibers are produced by spinning usually through shaped spin holes. .special, the flat parts of the cross section are formed continuously and parallel to the axis of the fibers, Therefore, the shine of the yarn will appear in one viewing angle but hardly appear in another, Woven and knitted fabrics - made of such fibers will have poorly distributed shine points, which is not desirable for practical use.

   Thus, in order to eliminate these drawbacks, suggestions have previously been offered such as a method for applying twists to filaments of non-circular cross-section prior to knitting and weaving operations (US Pat. United States of America No. 3,109,278) and a yarn with altered twists or bends (Japanese utility model released No. 22.673 of 1965).

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

  The application of twists to monofilaments, however, requires a separate, complex and inefficient process, such as the trai-
 EMI3.1
 monofilaments, which by nature have no twist when spun, on a twisting machine or, after shrinkage treatment, by passing them over a hot plate heated to a temperature equal to that of the processing. shrinkage. Thus, no simple method is available until now.

   Further, a process is known whereby two or more kinds of thermoplastic linear polymers are bonded simultaneously when spun to form a
 EMI3.2
 filament in which the polymers are arranged unevenly in the cross-section of the unitary mesh and then the resulting filament is subjected to a treatment to give rise to an appropriate corrugation, using the differences in thermal shrinkage or swelling properties between different polymers to produce a crimped compound filament
 EMI3.3
 or corrugated (U.S. Patents No. 2,499,814,. 43r? i $ 1 S, etc.).

   Since a filament, composed of a filament. 6 having such an anisotropic structure in cross-section has by nature no twist, the same constituents forming said filament extend parallel to the longitudinal axis of the filament and therefore , the ripples generated will appear in the form of inverted monotonous spirals in certain places, thus never giving a complex shape
 EMI3.4
 in all three dimensions.

   Further, if such a practically twist-free monofilament is used to produce knitted or woven articles, since the bonding direction of different polymers in the compound monofilaments contiguous with the knitted article is substantially fixed in relation to the fabric.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

 surface of the woven knitted article, the stresses due to the corrugations generated by the subsequent corrugation treatment will be locally concentrated, therefore giving an uneven surface appearance to the knitted or woven article.

   In order to eliminate these drawbacks, it has already been proposed a method according to which a compound monofilament receives a given twist beforehand in order to modify in various ways the direction of binding of the polymers relative to the surface of the knitted or woven article, as described. in Japanese Patent Application No. 55,372 of 1964. Also necessary for this purpose is a compound filament having twists in the longitudinal direction about the axis of the filament and the appearance of a simple process for the production of such. filament will be important.

   In addition, recently there has been an increasing trend for the use of thermoplastic fibers in industrial applications, while the greatest disadvantage of melt-spun thermoplastic fibers is that their smooth surfaces easily cause knots to loosen when used. - that such fibers are used for nets or the like and when they are used for ropes, the resistance between the strands vis-à-vis slipping is low.

  In order to improve such properties, a method has already been carried out which consists in strongly twisting a small bundle of filaments, bringing them together and again sharply twisting the bundled bundles, thereby increasing the diameter. - slip resistance between the filaments. However, it is impossible with such a process to remove the "smoothness" which can be attributed to the production process itself, from the surface of the bundles of the cord-drilling fibers.

  In order to eliminate these drawbacks, a process has already been proposed for the production of a monofilament with high resistance to sliding having an oval or plant shape in cross section and offering a shape of torsion along the axis.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 5>

 fibers (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 12,936 of 1966). However, significant industrial progress will be obtained with a production process whereby such monofilaments can be obtained during spinning without having to resort to any special further processing.

   An object of the present invention is to provide a filament such that when it is shaped into a structure such as knitted and woven articles, this structure will exhibit evenly distributed shiny effects or a uniform appearance. ---
Another object is to produce a filament having increased bulk, better coating property, better cohesion and higher slip resistance. Another object is to provide a new method and apparatus for efficiently producing such filaments.

   The process according to the invention is characterized in that while molten or dissolved thermoplastic polymers; are extruded through a spinning hole, the part of a nozzle plate having the spinning hole is rotated about the central axis of the spinning hole, thereby imparting twists to the extruded wire,
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description below, given by way of nonlimiting example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

   An embodiment of the apparatus used for carrying out the present method will first be described with reference to the drawings. Figure 1 is a partial longitudinal sectional view illustrating the main part of a die according to the present invention. On the lower surface

   The toothed wheel 2 and the rotary shaft 3 as well as the toothed wheel 14 and the shaft 13 are integrally coupled by means of keys 16 and 17) respectively. In order that the toothed wheels 2 and 15 can be supported between the upper metal plate 4 and the lower metal plate 6 while being able to rotate freely, the intermediate metal plate 5 defines the distance between the upper and lower metal plates.

  A nozzle fixing plate 18 is screwed onto the lower part of the rotary shaft 3 and a nozzle receiving plate.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 7>

        nozzles 19 is fixed to the nozzle fixing plate 18 by a screw 20, while the nozzle plate 11 is press-fitted to the lower surface of the rotary shaft 3.

  A heating block 21 is mounted so as to maintain the entire die at a suitable temperature. The threading hole 12 passing through the nozzle plate 11 is located on the axis line of the rotary shaft and has a cross-section of non-circular shape, such as for example a slit shape, or a radial shape with two branches or more.

   In such an apparatus, a molten or dissolved thermoplastic polymer is passed through the spinning liquid feed hole 9 and the introduction bore 8 to the spinning hole 12, through which it is extruded; ;

     the shape of a filament, Since the cross section of the spinning hole 12 is not circular, as described above, the spun filament naturally has a cross sectional shape which is not circular,
If the drive source is turned on, power is successively transmitted by the gears 14 and 15 to the gear 2, thereby rotating the rotary shaft 3 'As the nozzle plate 11 is turned on. rotating together with the rotary shaft 3,

   the filament! file receives twists around its longitudinal axis according to the number of rotations of the nozzle plate
Fig. 2 shows another embodiment of the present invention, wherein the filter block 1 has several spun liquid supply holes, for example three holes 9.22 and 23 and the upper metal plate! 4 has introduction holes 24 and 25. In addition, the rotary shaft 3 has, in addition to the introduction hole 8, annular grooves 26 and 27 formed along the peripheral edge.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 8>

 of the rotary shaft and also the introductory holes 28 and 29 extending downward from the respective annular grooves.

   The nozzle plate 11 also has introduction holes 30 and 31 in communication with the spinning hole 12. The introduction holes 24 and 25 are in communication with the extrusion liquid supply holes. 22 and 23 and the annular grooves 26 and 27 respectively.

  In such an apparatus dissimilar polymers which can be mutually bonded, molten or dissolved are used, For example, if a polymer A is supplied through the spinning liquid feed hole 9, a polymer B through the through the supply hole of spinning liquid 22 and a polymer C through the supply hole of spinning liquid 23, these polymers are fed through the conduits 8, 28, and 29 to the nozzle plate 11, respectively, where they flow together and are then extruded through the spin hole 12 to produce a compound filament.

   It is of course possible to make the cross section of the spun filament non-circular, by giving the cross section of the spinning hole 12 a non-circular shape. In this case, since the dissimilar polymers are located adjacent to each other in interrelated association in the cross section of the single filament and therefore the filament has an anisotropic structure in cross section, a circular shape in cross section of the single filament also satisfies the objects of the invention.

   Thus, if the drive source is actuated during spinning, the nozzle plate 11 is rotated due to the rotation of the rotary shaft 3, so that the yarn which is spun receives twists around it. of its longitudinal axis.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 9>

   Although an example of the apparatus for producing a compound filament having twists from three different polymers is shown in Figure 2, it is possible to vary widely the constituents of such compound filaments by suitably increasing or decreasing the number of holes and conduits for supplying spinning liquid.

    FIG. 3 shows another improved embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, in which to the rotary shaft 3 is fixed a ring 32 which is provided with several blades 33 and 34 which are fixed thereto and which are attached thereto. extend outwardly, while said ring is supported between the upper metal plate 4 and the lower metal plate 6. The upper metal plate 4 has an annular groove 35 'formed in the surface in sliding contact with it. the rotary shaft 3 and another annular groove 36 formed in the surface in sliding contact with the ring 32.

   Further, the lower metal plate 6 has an annular groove 37 formed in the surface in sliding contact with the rotary shaft 3 and another annular groove 38 formed in the surface in sliding contact with the ring 32. The intermediate metal plate 5 has a free space 46 provided to receive the rotary shaft 3, the ring 32 and the blades 33 and 34. A fluid nozzle hole 35 extending from a compressed fluid supply source (not shown) and opening into the free space 46 while being directed towards the blade 34, is drilled at an angle with respect to the central axis of the rotary shaft 3 and a fluid discharge hole (not shown)

     ctst drilled so as to extend from the free space 46 outwards, The upper and lower metal plates 4 and 6, respectively,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 10>

 have compressed fluid introduction holes 40 and
41 drilled so as to open into the annular grooves 35 and 37, respectively, and the annular grooves 35, 36 and 37,
38 are put in mutual communication by means of introduction holes 42, 43 and 44,45, respectively.

   In the apparatus shown in Figure 3, if a compressed fluid is supplied from the compressed fluid / power source, through the fluid nozzle hole 39 and the fluid introduction holes. compressed 40 and 41, the annular grooves 35, 36, 37 and 38 are then filled with the compressed fluid thus forming fluid bearings and, simultaneously, the rotary shaft 3 is put into pressure by the fluid pressure. acting on the blades or blades
33 and 34.

   In this case, as a compressed fluid. air, nitrogen gas or any other suitable gas can be used, a pressure of about 5 to 10 kg / cm2 being sufficient. A molten or dissolved thermoplastic polymer is passed through the fixing liquid feed hole 9 and the introduction hole 8 and is spun through the spinning hole 12 to give a filament of anisotropic cross section. as described previously in connection with figure 1.

  In such an apparatus, it is also easy to make the cross-sectional structure of the spun yarn anisotropic by providing more than one spinning liquid feed hole, with an introduction hole communicating with each of these feed holes. . In such an apparatus, it is possible to greatly increase the number of rotations of the rotary shaft 3, which consequently increases the number of twists in the filaments.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 11>

 products and also to modify at will the number of rutations of the rotary shaft, by an appropriate adjustment of the fluid pressure.

     Figures 4 to 7 are longitudinal sectional views showing alternative embodiments of the nozzle plate used for the implementation of the present invention and also illustrating the lower end portion of the rotary shaft on which is mounted one of the nozzle plates,
For example, if it is desired to obtain filaments composed from soft kinds of polymers, the rotary shaft 3 is replaced by a shaft having two introductory trotta and a nozzle plate such as shown in Figure 4 or Figure 5.

     In Figure 4, a polymer A is introduced. through the introduction hole 8 at 48 and a polymer B through the introduction hole 29 at 48, after which they flow together and are spun in bonding association through the spinning hole 12. From Similarly, in Figure 5, polymers A and B are introduced through the introduction holes 28 and 29 at 49 and 50, respectively, after which they are extruded as a single filament through the spinning hole 12.

   Fig. 6 shows an arrangement for spinning one form of filament with different polymers arranged like a core and sheath in the cross section of the filament, a polymer A supplied through the holes d. the introduction 28 and 29 being sent through the grooves 51 and 52 of the nozzle plate 11 to an introduction hole 54. On the other hand, a polymer B supplied through the introduction hole 8 is driven out. through a tubular duct 53 into an introduction hole 54, where the polymer B together with the

 <Desc / Clms Page number 12>

 Polymer A is spun through spinning hole 12, thereby forming a filament in which Polymer B is surrounded by Polymer A.

   In this case, if the tubular duct 53 is located eccentrically with respect to the central axis of the introduction hole 54j the spun filament will be such that its constituent polymers are disposed eccentrically in the cross section of the filament. In the event that the cross section of the spinning hole 12 is not circular, it is not necessary for the tubular duct 53 to take an eccentric position with respect to the central axis of the introduction hole 54.

   Fig. 7 shows another embodiment of a nozzle plate for spinning a compound filament in which polymers are located side by side by being mutually bonded, the polymers each being supplied through holes. introduction 8, 28 and 29 to reach the introduction holes 57, 55 and 56 in the nozzle plate 11, respectively and they are then extruded through their respective spinning holes. The introduction hole 57 on the axis line of the rotating shaft is vertical, while the introduction holes 55 and 56 in eccentric position are inclined with respect to the central axis, the central axes of said holes introduction intersecting each other at a point on the central axis of the rotary shaft.

   Polymers spun through such a nozzle plate will contact and be bonded successively after being extruded, to form a compound filament having a cross-sectional shape as shown in Fig. 8 When the rotating shaft 3 is put

 <Desc / Clms Page number 13>

   in rotation, the spinning liquid coming from the eccentric position of the nozzle plate 11 is naturally subjected to the influence of centrifugal force, so that it is necessary to take account of the latter,
In the process described above, the combination of polymers to be provided and the shape of the spinning hole can be selected in various ways depending on the particular goals to be achieved. This amounts to saying that the shape)

        of the spinning hole and the combination of polymers are to choose! so that when a filament is provided with corsions around its longitudinal axis by the rotation of the rotary shaft, the effect due to the twists can be clearly seen or, in other words, the shape or structure in cross section can have anisotropy. For example, when using a non-circular cross-sectional spinning hole, the resulting filament is not circular in cross-section and already has anisotropy, so that it becomes structurally unimportant that the filaments are composed of a single polymer or of several polymers.

   In the case where the cross section of the filament is substantially circular, it is necessary that the filament be composed of at least two kinds of polymers in order to make it structurally anisotropic.

   Although the filament thus having anisotropy in either shape or structure of the cross section, will receive twists immediately after being spun by the rotational movement of the nozzle plate,

 <Desc / Clms Page number 14>

 it is possible to modify the state of these twists according to the particular purposes by controlling the number of rotations of the rotary shaft or by carrying out its rotation in alternating directions or alternatively with intermittent rotation.

   Although the drive system for the rotary shaft constituting the main part of the present apparatus has been illustrated by way of example as an engagement system between a first toothed wheel fixed to the rotary shaft and a second one. toothed wheel driven from the drive source, or as a system using a fluid jet, it is also possible to suitably use other systems such as a belt drive, chain drive and drive system. Electromagnetic induction drive, by a simple design modification within the scope of the present invention.

   Further, by arranging a plurality of such rotating nozzle plates on a common spinneret, it is possible to obtain a spinneret for efficiently spinning multifilaments, in which the filaments each have their respective tersion. Figures 8 to 11 show some examples of cross section of the filaments obtained according to the invention, Figure 12 is a perspective view illustrating the state of the twists imparted to the filaments, Among the thermoplastic linear polymers which can be applied according to the invention. invention, there are synthetic or semi-synthetic polymers such as polyamides, polyester, polyester ether, polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride,

 of polyvinylidene, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl alcohol) polyaxymethylene, polyurethane, polystyrene and polyfluoroethylene, a semisynthetic polymer of cellulose acetate or a copolymer and graft polymer consisting mainly of the same and mixtures thereof.

     It is also possible to use preparations comprising, in addition to said materials, a colorant, a pigment, a delustering agent, a plasticizer, a filler, a light stabilizer, a heat resistance agent or an antistatic agent, added according to The filaments obtained by the present process can be stretched according to the usual practice and their twists remain and extend along the longitudinal axis even after stretching, so that the gloss is distributed properly.

   Further, in the case where the filament has an anisotropic structure in cross section, further processing causing creping or corrugation will cause corrugations which are extremely complex in all three dimensions, so that the resulting product has a high degree of crimping. bulk, and good coating, cohesive and slip resistance properties.

The apparatus according to the present invention is of simple construction, so that maintenance, assembly and operation are easy and the state of the twists can be changed widely during spinning, so that the process. conventional twist can be omitted.
