  Ces <t)0)<Mt 1QJINII wn# ut1U."." depu1a \me ,triode pliw r'c¯1 ',1' :? ;.À.A,µ$n:t.><>.,' '.: >.; <.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to an insulating column with high flexural strength, obtained by pre-compression, and usable as an insulator for an electrical substation or as an insulating console in overhead electrical lines.

"." since, triode pliw r'c¯1 ', 1':? ; .À.A, µ $ n: t.> <>., ''.:> .; <. à> t: 1., "Y .a with particular arrangements, as consoles for the support of conductors of overhead lines * for the transport of electrical energy, on support elements and the like, In their use for the latter uses, however, porcelain columns have suffered until now from a limited tensile strength of the material which constitutes them, which has prevented their use under significant bending stresses.

   The present invention proposes to provide an insulating column having a high resistance to bending, in order to be able to solve, in a more ample and more rational way than in the past, the many problems of isolation. and support for high voltage conductors and the like, problems encountered with the use of porcelain columns.

   An insulating column according to the invention is characterized by the fact that it is composed of a substantially cylindrical insulating body made of a material having high compressive strength, for example porcelain or similar material, and of 'a bar of high tensile strength material, such as a fibrous resin, this bar being arranged in an axial bore of the aforesaid body and stretched between the bases thereof, so as to achieve an axial pre-compression in column without load.

   The invention will be described in more detail below, purely by way of example, with reference to the appended drawing which shows, in axial section, a preferred embodiment of a column according to the invention.

   As shown in the drawing, this column is essentially composed of a cylindrical porcelain body 1, crossed by an axial bore 2 and provided with end metal flanges 3. as well as a vitreous resin bar 4, arranged inside -

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 .. .. .. .. .. laughing of bore 2 and provided with end attachments 5 and 6.

   The cylindrical body 1 of the column is made of porcelain according to the usual technique, with fins 7 projecting on the outer surface of the body 1 over the entire length thereof.

   The metal flanges 3 applied to the ends of the body 1 include a cylindrical wall 8 intended to be housed on one side on the end of the body 1, a perforated internal diaphragm 9, intended to rest against the base of the body 1, and a flat outer ring 10 having holes for mounting the column.

   The fasteners 5 and 6 of the glass resin bar 4 placed inside the bore 2 of the body 1 are formed by partially hollow cylindrical bodies, made of steel, applied to the ends of the bar 4 for the purpose of radial compression. .

  The fastener 5 has, in its head 5 'two transverse holes 11, perpendicular to each other, and its external lateral surface is smooth, while the fastener 6 comprises in its head a single transverse hole 12 and has a threaded external lateral surface. .

  As can be seen in the drawing, a pin 13 inserted in one of the holes 11 connects the clip 5 to the outside of one of the flanges 3 of the body 1, while a nut 14 screwed on the The threaded side surface of the clip 6 is clamped against the diaphragm 9 of the other flange of the body 1, which allows the bar 4 to be tensioned in an adjustable manner.

   The flanges 3 (or at least one of these) have a hole 16 in the diaphragm 9 to put the cavity of the bore 2 of the body 1 in communication with the outside so as to allow filling ( optionally under vacuum and hot) by an insulating substance, preferably consisting of a resin 17.

   With this column construction, it is possible to work efficiently in the presence of bending stresses, since it is possible to achieve pre-compression

 <Desc / Clms Page number 4>

   real and proper porcalaine. For this purpose, it will suffice to unite to the attachments 5 and 6 of the bar 4, those of a traction machine, using the holes 11 and 12 in an appropriate manner, and as soon as the machine has been put under tension at the desired degree the bar
8 by lengthening it accordingly, the nut 6 will be tightened on the diaphragm 9 of the flange 3.

   When the action of the traction machine is stopped and the bar 4 is released, the latter exerts in its unloaded state an energetic axial compression of the porcelain body 1, through the intervention of the diaphragms 9 of the flanges 3; in this way it can be said that the column in this state constitutes a pre-compressed structure. Like all structures of this kind, the column, when subjected to bending, will be able to withstand the relative stresses much better than the usual columns.

   In fact, the tensile forces in play in any parts of the column will have the effect of simply unloading these marls which are part of the compressive force applied to them by the tensioned bar 4, without there being any makes a tensile stress or in any case fairly limited tensile forces, which need not be concerned with regard to the resistance of the material and which do not require the provision of excessive dimensions for the column. As for the parts subjected during the stresses to bending, to compressive forces, they are certainly able to withstand the sum of these forces and those generated by the pre-compression, given the optimum resistance of the material. in this respect.

   The present invention also makes it possible to produce insulating columns for electrical installations, of normal distension, capable of being subjected to even intense bending stresses (as by ..... in the use as consoles. for the support of conductors of overhead electric power transmission lines), without) having to resort to

 "inâtallat.ions: 'k, .8pkiales." The ..., result ainà3.4, obtained, is of importance not only from the purely technical point of view, because it slimplifies the construction and limits the weight and the bulk, but also of the economic point of view, because it significantly reduces the cost, and also from the aesthetic point of view.

   It is obvious that the embodiments of the schools which are the subject of the present invention may vary from that described and illustrated, and that the materials adopted for their manufacture may also be diverse. It is also envisioned that the shape and the number of fins of the body of a column will be established according to the use for which this column will be intended, and it will be the same for the characteristics of the flanges 3 and of the clips 5 and 6. The materials used to form the body 1 could be other than porcelain, for example various grades of glass, and those used to form the clips and the flanges could be different from steel. , for example special alloys.

   The porcelain body could also be formed from a series of aligned and associated discs or cylinders, instead of being formed by a single body as described. The entire pin and nut system, designed to clamp the glass resin bar to the porcelain body, can also be replaced by any system or device available in practice.
