Abstract

Fluid hydrocarbons are injected in the plane of the main tuyeres and reducing gas in the upper zone of the furnace. The lower injection is made via at least one oxy fuel burner so as to give a combustion temp. of at least 1600 degrees C and pref. at least 1800 degrees C, eventually without air blast. The reducing gas injection principally CO and H2 takes place about the lower part of the reserve zone, the reducing gas temp. being equal to or slightly greater than that of the materials in the injection area.
