Abstract

Tobacco smoke filter has in at least one section, a cellulose ester material, e.g. cellulose acetate, -propionate, or -butyrate, in porous shreds packed in abutting relation with one another. The shreds have a surface area of 0.6-3 m2/g and porosity of 65-90%. Effective tar removal is obtd while allowing an acceptable press drop.
