Abstract

The process used in removing a valve on the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and driven by camshaft through push-rod and rocker, involves building-up the clearance between the valve stem and the rocker end on the valve's side. Each clearance regulating screw is unscrewed and the rod is moved laterally so that the rocker's opposite end may be lowered by a rocking movement till the rocker's end on the valve's side is moved away from the valve's path. The valve is removed from above.

Description

 <EMI ID=1.1>

D'autres caractéristiques et avantages de l'invention ressortiront plus clairement de la description qui va suivre, faite en référence au dessin annexé illustrant un mode de réalisation d'un dispositif conforme à l'invention, et dans les deux planches duquel : - la figure 1 est une vue de dessus d'une culasse de moteur à combustion interne incorporant un dispositif de commande de soupape conforme à la présente invention ;

 <EMI ID=2.1>

  "A method of disassembling a valve mounted at the head of an internal combustion engine and valve actuator for carrying out this method."

The object of the present invention is essentially

a method of mounting a valve mounted at the head of the cylinder head

cylinder of an internal combustion engine and driven by a rocker arm by means of a tappet actuated by a camshaft, and a valve control device for carrying out this process.

 <EMI ID = 1.1>

at the head of the cylinder head required the disassembly and reassembly of the cylinder head assembly, then its adjustment, which are relatively long operations to perform.

The present invention avoids these operations by performing a method consisting essentially of increasing the clearance between the valve stem and the valve end of the rocker arm, optionally by unscrewing each clearance adjustment screw, laterally moving the push rod so that the opposite end of the rocker arm can be lowered by rocking the rocker arm until the valve end of the rocker arm moves out of the valve disassembly path, and the valve is disassembled upward.

The valve control device for running

of this method is of the type in which the push rod passes through a wall of the engine casing or of said cylinder head by

an orifice thereof, and is characterized in that said orifice is sufficiently large relative to the transverse dimension

of the push rod to allow lateral displacement of the latter in said orifice sufficient for the upper end of the push rod to be released from below the control end adjacent to the rocker arm.

This device can also include selectively unlockable locking means intended to maintain the push rod under the control end adjacent to the rocker arm.

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge more clearly from the description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawing illustrating an embodiment of a device according to the invention, and in the two plates of which: - the Figure 1 is a top view of an internal combustion engine cylinder head incorporating a valve control device according to the present invention;
- Figure 2 is a sectional view taken along line II-II of the engine part shown in Figure 1.

Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings illustrate a device

valve control 10 according to the invention, mounted on the housing 12 of an internal combustion engine comprising two exhaust valves 14 and two intake valves 16, all mounted at the head of the engine cylinder head. In the illustrated embodiment, the device 10 controls the exhaust valves 14 by means of an exhaust rocker arm 18 tilting about an axis 18a, while the two intake valves 16 are controlled by a control device 20 of a conventional type, actuating an inlet rocker arm 22 tilting about an axis 22a.

The position taken by the exhaust rocker arm 18 to operate the engine normally is that represented by a

solid solid line in figure 2.

The valves shown are poppet valves, the upper end of the stem of which is controlled by a screw

clearance adjuster 24, 26 mounted on the corresponding end of the respective rocker arms 18 and 22. The valve springs have a maximum radial dimension represented by the contours 28a for

the exhaust valves and 30 for the intake valves.

The mechanism comprising the locking sleeve 28b, the spring 28a, and the body 28c must be removed together with the valve for the replacement thereof.

The two control devices 10 and 20 respectively comprise two push rods 32 and 34, the upper end of which has an axial recess intended to receive the corresponding end of the respective rocker arms, which comprise at this location a stop 36, 38 extending the rocker arms in the axis

of the push rod. The push rods 32 and 34, intended to transmit to the rocker arms the movement they receive from a push rod controlled by a camshaft located in the lower part of the engine and therefore not shown, pass through the wall of the engine to do this. housing 12 through respective orifices 40, 42.

In the control device 20 of the conventional type as shown in FIG. 1, the orifice 42 has a circular section coaxial with the push rod 34 and a diameter slightly greater than that of the rod.

On the contrary, the valve control device 10 according to the invention is characterized in the embodiment illustrated by its oblong orifice 40 in the direction normal to the tilting axis 18a of the exhaust rocker arm 18. selectively unblockable locks are provided to hold the protective tube 32a of the exhaust push rod 32 under the stop 36 of the exhaust rocker arm and are represented in the drawings by a plate 44 perforated with a circular hole 46 of slightly larger diameter to that of the tube 32 and fixed to the wall of the housing 12 by screws, not shown.

In addition, the device 10 may include, as shown in Figure 2, an external protection means by covering the oblong orifice 40, constituted in this example by a flexible bellows 50 surrounding an external part of the pusher and fixed to the wall. of the housing around the orifice by screws 48.

Thanks to the valve control device 10 which has just been described, the method of removing an exhaust valve will now be described with reference to the drawing of FIG. 2.

The position in the working state of the exhaust rocker arm 18 being that shown in solid lines in Figure 2, valve closed, the disassembly of a valve 14 with its associated mechanism 28a, b, c consists first of all of increase the clearance between the valve stem 14 and the valve end of the rocker arm 18 by unscrewing each clearance adjusting screw 24 until, by tilting the rocker arm 18, the stop 36 is released from the

 <EMI ID = 2.1>

shown in phantom. We then move the

push rod 32 and tube 32a by unscrewing the plate 44
(positions 32 ', 32'a, and 44' shown in dashed dashed lines),

so that the end of the push-side rocker arm can be lowered by tilting the rocker arm 18 until it reaches position 18 "shown in phantom lines, which places the end of the rocker arm

valve side out of valve disassembly path 14.

This process is completed by removing the valve from above.

The same operations must be carried out in reverse order to

reassembly of the valve.

It follows from this method that, in general, it is sufficient that the orifice 40 is sufficiently large relative to the transverse dimension of the push rod 32 and of the tube 32a.

to allow lateral displacement of the latter in the orifice sufficient so that the upper end of the push rod can be released from below the neighboring control end

of the rocker carrying the stop 36. The oblong orifice 40 as shown is therefore only one particular embodiment in accordance with the invention.

Of course, the invention is in no way limited to

embodiment described and illustrated which was only mentioned

as an example. In particular, it includes all the means constituting technical equivalents of the means described thus

that their combinations, if they are carried out according to the

of the invention and implemented within the scope of the following claims.
