catalisador, método para produzir um catalisador, método para produzir um ácido carboxílico ou éster etilenicamente insaturado, e, processo para preparar um ácido ou éster etilenicamente insaturado. a invenção descreve um catalisador que compreende um suporte de sílica, um metal modificador e um metal alcalino catalítico. o suporte de sílica tem uma distribuição multimodal de tamanhos de poros que compreende uma distribuição de tamanhos de poros mesoporosos com um tamanho médio de poro na faixa de 2 a 50 nm e um volume de poro dos ditos mesoporos de pelo menos 0,1 cm3/g, e uma distribuição de tamanhos de poros macroporosos com um tamanho médio de poro superior a 50 nm e um volume de poro dos ditos macroporos de pelo menos 0,1 cm3/g. o nível de metal alcalino catalítico no suporte de sílica é de pelo menos 2% em mol. o metal modificador é selecionado dentre mg, b, al, ti, zr e hf. a invenção também descreve um método para produzir o catalisador, um método para produzir um ácido carboxílico ou éster etilenicamente insaturado na presença do catalisador e um processo para preparar um ácido ou éster etilenicamente insaturado na presença do catalisador.
