Trata-se de sistemas e métodos para gerar uma identificação de hardware prolixa (VHWID) para um dado sistema de computador. A identificação de hardware prolixa (VHWID) pode ser usada para controlar o uso de software no dado sistema de computador de acordo com o grau de alterações de hardware no sistema de computador.
