A presente invenção refere-se a um processo para a preparação de gama-cihalotrina compreendendo as etapas de a) cloração de ácido 1R cis-Z 3-(2-cloro-3,3,3-triflúor-1-propenil)-2,2-dimetil ciclopropanocarboxílico para render cloreto de ácido 1R-cis-Z-3-(2-cloro-3,3,3-triflúor-1-propenil)-2,2dimetil ciclopropanocarboxílico e b) esterificação de cloreto de ácido 1R cis-Z 3-(2-cloro-3,3,3-triflúor-1-propenil)-2,2-dimetil ciclo propano carboxílico com a (S)-cianohidrina de 3-fenoxibenzaldeído (III).
