A invenção inclui uma composição cermet representada pela fórmula (PQ)(RS) compreendendo: uma fase cerâmica (PQ) e uma fase ligante (RS) na qual, P é um metal selecionado do grupo consistindo de Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Fe, Mn e suas misturas, Q é carbonitreto, R é um metal selecionado do grupo consistindo de Fe, Ni, Co, Mn e suas misturas, S compreende pelo menos um elemento selecionado de Cr, A1, Si e Y.
