"MéTODOS PARA CODIFICAR UM SINAL E PARA DECODIFICAR UM FLUXO DE áUDIO, CODIFICADOR DE áUDIO, REPRODUTOR DE áUDIO, SISTEMA DE áUDIO, FLUXO DE áUDIO, E, MEIO DE ARMAZENAGEM". Em um codificador de áudio senoidal, é estimado um número de senóides por segmento de áudio. Uma senóide é representada por freqüência, amplitude e fase. Normalmente, a fase é quantitizada independente da freqüência. A invenção usa uma quantitização de fase dependente da freqüência e, em particular as freqüências baixa são quantitizadas usando intervalos de quantitização menores do que em freqüências mais altas. Então, as fases 'desempacotadas' das freqüências mais baixas são quantitizadas mais precisamente, possivelmente com uma banda de quantização menor do que as fases das freqüências mais altas. A invenção acarreta uma melhoria significativa na qualidade de sinal decodificado, especialmente para quantitizadores de baixa taxa de bit.
