Abstract
A display of a catheter tip having a beam direction for an ultrasonic system is provided to reduce an operation time of a surgeon by using a three-dimensional ultrasonic image in performing a complex operation. A catheter(28) includes a position sensor and an ultrasonic imaging sensor. A positioning processor is connected to the catheter(28) to determine position information of a part of the catheter(28) based on an electrical signal transmitted by the position sensor. An image processor(42) is operationally connected to the catheter(28), the positioning processor, and a display unit(44). The position sensor transmits an electrical signal which represents position information of a part of the catheter(28) within a patient body. The ultrasonic imaging sensor transmits ultrasonic energy to an object within the patient body, and receives an ultrasonic reflective sound reflected from the object within the patient body. The image processor(42) displays a catheter icon on the display unit(44) in the same orientation as an orientation of the catheter(28) within the patient body based on the position information induced from the position sensor. The image processor(42) generates an ultrasonic image of the object based on the signal transmitted by the ultrasonic sensor. The image processor(42) displays the generated ultrasonic image in real-time on the display(44) in the same orientation as an orientation of the catheter(28) within the patient body based on the position information induced from the position sensor.
