Abstract

Método para produção de cobalto metálico a partir de refinado de extração por solventes de níquel. Compreendido pelas etapas de: (A) obter o refinado da extração por solventes de níquel para a produção de cobalto; (B) adicionar a esse refinado um agente precipitador de sulfetos, para a precipitação de sulfeto de cobalto e sulfeto de zinco; (C) retirar toda amónia presente na polpa (sólidos e líquido) sulfetada; (D) submeter á lixiviação atmosférica o sólido filtrado - sulfeto de cobalto (e impurezas); (E) promover a minimização da concentração de zinco no catado final de cobalto, por meio de extração por solventes usando-se o extratante D~ 2~EPHA diluído em solvente Escaid 110 ou equivalente, em qualquer sistema de extração por solventes constituído por um número necessário de etapas de extração, escrubagem e reextração com tempo de residência em cada uma destas etapas, quando aplicadas, não inferior a 1 minuto; (F) promover a troca iónica para remoção de níquel para a purificação de níquel; (G) promover a precipitação de carbonato de cobalto adicionando-se carbonato de sódio à solução; (H) lixiviar o carbonato de cobalto produzido em um sistema que utiliza um ácido, preferencialmente ácido sulfúrico e, mais preferencialmente, a anolito da eletrólise do cobalto; (I) realizar a eletrorecuperação de cobalto para recuperar o cobalto da solução na forma metálica; e (J) permitir o repouso do cobalto metálica em placas insolúveis feitas de aço inoxidável durante o tempo necessário para a produção dos catodos de cobalto.
