L'invention concerne un procédé pour faire fonctionner un moyen de transport (1) qui est équipé d'un dispositif de transport (6) de transport d'un objet (2), comprenant les étapes suivantes : i) la disposition d'un objet (2) dans une zone d'agencement (15) du dispositif de transport (6) ; ii) la mesure sans contact (53) de l'objet (2) à l'aide d'un appareil de mesure de distance (10) ; iii) la détermination d'une zone de sécurité (30) au niveau du moyen de transport (1) en fonction de la mesure (53) selon l'étape ii).
