Une soupape de retenue c commande le débouché du tuyau<I>b</I> dans le. réservoir<I>a.</I> Celui-ci est relié par un tuyau d, partant de sa partie inférieure, à deux buses e logées dans la con duite d'admission<I>f</I> en<I>T</I> du moteur g. Le re foulement du combustible se trouvant en z jusqu'aux buses e a lieu au moyen d'une pression d'air agissant sur lui et fournie par une pompe h. La pompe la comporte un cy lindre<I>h'</I> assujetti par une pièce métallique<I>i</I> au plancher o du véhicule, en face de la place du conducteur;
Dans ces conditions, il est nécessaire que le guide ri. soit isolé; c'est pourquoi il coulisse dans une .garniture isolante s de la pièce iz et c'est pourquoi il est lui-même muni d'une garniture isolante t donnant passage à la ti e I. Un ressort i4 est intercalé entre la. pé dale l' et le guide -in, de manière à faire sor tir le plus possible la tige<I>l</I> de ce guide <I>m;
Au moment où l'on veut lancer le moteur et où l'on appuie pour cela sur la pédale h, on produit deux effets: D'une part, on dé place le piston W de haut en bas et on com prime fortement l'air contenu dans la cham bre lb:",- cet air franchit la soupape<I>k</I> et arrive clans le réservoir a duquel il expulse par le tuyau d le combustible s'y trouvant;
Installation for launching explosion engines. The object of the invention is an installation for launching explosion engines fitted with an electric starter.
It comprises, like other installations known for launching explosion engines, a device serving to send liquid fuel at will into the intake duct of the engine to be started, in which the fuel forms an explosive mixture with air, as well as a device making it possible to close by the same movement the circuit of a source of electricity which supplies current to the electric starter and to operate the latter. But it differs from it in that the two devices are set up and controlled in such a way that the second device enables the circuit of the source of electricity to be closed while the first device sends the fuel into the intake line and after this dispatch.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the installation, applied to the four-cylinder engine of a road motor vehicle. Fig. 1, schematic, is a general view of this embodiment and of part of the vehicle; Fig. 2 shows, on a large scale, in longitudinal section, part of the above embodiment.
The latter comprises a tank a intended to supply the liquid fuel necessary for launching and supplied with fuel by means of a pipe b coming either directly from the main tank, not shown, of the vehicle, or from a pipe connecting this tank. main to the carburetor.
A check valve c controls the outlet of the pipe <I> b </I> into the. tank <I> a. </I> This is connected by a pipe, starting from its lower part, to two nozzles e housed in the intake pipe <I> f </I> at <I> T </I> of the engine g. The return of the fuel located in z to the nozzles e takes place by means of an air pressure acting on it and supplied by a pump h. The pump comprises a cylinder <I> h '</I> secured by a metal part <I> i </I> to the floor o of the vehicle, opposite the driver's seat;
in the cylinder h 'lies a piston la \ it dividing into two chambers, one of which, h \, is connected, on the one hand, <B> n </B> to a tank a by means of 'a pipe j in lequa1 (--t interspersed with a discharge valve le'.
on the other hand, to the chamber Iz 'by a channel ii. "formed in the piston h.' and controlled by a valve lz '; the chamber h' is in permanent communication with the atmosphere by a channel la '. the piston hl is integral with a rod I sliding in a guide ni, and carrying a pedal II on which the driver presses to start the engine.
The guide has, <I> a </I> the shape of a bell and itself slides axially in a metal part ri, secured to the floor o; it presents at its lower part a truncated conical surface iii l arranged so as to engage at the desired time with two isolated contacts 1) q carried by the part i. and to unite them then, thanks to the fact that it is in a conductive material.
The <I> p </I> q contacts are interposed in the circuit of the low voltage direct current electricity source, supplying the electric starter, not shown, of the motor g; when they are put in relation by the -riz guide, the source circuit is. closed.
Under these conditions, it is necessary for the guide to laugh. is isolated; this is why it slides in an insulating .garniture s of the part iz and this is why it is itself provided with an insulating lining t giving passage to the ti e I. A spring i4 is interposed between the. pedal l 'and guide -in, so as to get the rod <I> l </I> out as far as possible from this guide <I> m;
</I> a second spring, v, is arranged between the latter and the upper base of the cylinder hl, so that said guide wn, and the contacts t) q are not normally engaged.
The operation of the described embodiment is as follows: When not in use, the various parts occupy the positions shown in fig. \ ?, apart from the valve c of the tank a which is kept open by the thrust of the fuel in the pipe b. The tank a. then contains a certain quantity of liquid fuel, for example benzine, which arrived from the main tank by passing through the valve c.
When you want to start the engine and when you press the pedal h for this, two effects are produced: On the one hand, the piston W is moved up and down and the pressure is strongly compressed. air contained in chamber lb: ", - this air passes through valve <I> k </I> and arrives in the tank from which it expels through the pipe d the fuel therein;
the fuel thus expelled is violently projected into the intake manifold f by the nozzles c and forms with the air existing therein an explosive mixture which will also fill the cylinders, as soon as the intake components thereof will operate as a result of engine rotation due to the electric starter. It should be noted that the expulsion of the fuel does not take place abruptly, but on the contrary lasts a certain time, thanks to the compressibility of the air.
On the other hand, as soon as the spring ii is sufficiently compressed by the movement of the. pedal Il, it overcomes the resistance of the spring v and brings the guide tu into engagement with the contacts <I> p 1, </I> so that the starter is therefore supplied with a direct current of low voltage and continuous to be as long as you press the. pedal the; the starter operates and turns the engine in the cylinders of which the explosive mixture formed is admitted and whose spark plugs re-ignite this mixture.
It is thus possible to operate the starter. even when the piston hl has reached full stroke, so as to ignite the mixture containing the total charge of fuel taken from the tank a.
When we abandon the pedal h, the res goes out v moves the guide nn away from the contacts <I> pq, </I> so that the supply to the starter stops, and the spring ii, forces the piston hl to go up, so that air enters the room h. ' through the channels h 'V, the pope h'. On the other hand, a new quantity of fuel passes by gravity from the main tank into tank a. The device is now ready to operate again.
The valves c R of the reservoir a can be joined by a control rod actuated by a float.
The piston h 'with valve h' can be replaced by a full piston fitted with a leather sleeve which rests against the cylinder wall when h = moves up and down and away from it, when it is moves from bottom to top.
The pump and the moving part of the switch can be controlled other than by foot, by hand for example.
The installation can be used to start any explosion engine equipped with an electric starter.
