Presse d'imprimerie verticale d cylindre.

La partie de la came indiquée par z-iv est une période pendant laquelle le vide est coupé, le cylindre étant sur le point de commencer son mouvement de descente lorsque le point xv de la came est atteint. La partie de la came indiquée par iv-x est une période pendant laquelle la succion est mise sur la table de transfert, et par conséquent sur les plongeurs 122 et 124 lorsqu'une feuille se trouve sur la table pour couvrir les trous 121;
L'aspi ration est étendue jusqu'au sabot suceur 173 au moment où une feuille doit être transférée de la table de réserve à la table de transfert, et pendant ce temps seulement, la came 184 commandant l'interruption néces saire. Au moment où le sabot suceur 173 saisit une feuille sur la table de réserve 19, le cylindre et la table de transfert sont dans leur position la plus basse, et c'est pendant -le mouvement montant du cylindre et de la table de transfert que le sabot su ceur 173 est déplacé vers la table de trans fert;

The examples of fig. 28 to 44 are only partially shown; the parts not shown in these examples are substantially similar to the corresponding parts of the first example.
The press shown in Figs. 1 to 27-of the drawing, comprises a frame comprising two side flanges 10 and 11, which are connected to each other by three spacers 12, 13 and 14 "(fig. 3), the spacer 12 being the between the height of the supply table, 13 being the base spacer at the rear of the machine to which is attached a console 15 to support a motor 16 actuating the active parts of the press, 14 being a spacer partially enclosing a grained mechanism for raising and lowering the press cylinder.
On the flange 11 is mounted a part 17 (fig. 1, 2, 5 and 6) to which is articulated at 18 a reserve table 19, the plate of which can be raised either automatically or by hand, to keep it in place. a height determined in advance, so that the upper sheet of the stack found on the table can be gripped by the feed device of the press. On the spacer 12 of the feed table is disposed an arm 20 (fig.3) which carries a pusher table 21 constituting the receiving table and the pusher mechanism associated therewith.
On one end of a shaft 22 of the motor 16 (fig. 6) is mounted a pulley 23, which is held there by a locking washer 24 controlled by gravity and mounted eccentrically (fig. 3). A belt 25 (fig. 6) passes over the pulley 23 and over a pulley 26 mounted on a shaft 26 '(fig. 3) carrying a pinion 26a, in engagement with a toothed wheel 27 a mounted on the main shaft 27 of the press. On the end of the shaft 26 'is mounted a handwheel 26b, by means of which the press can be operated by hand.
On the main shaft 27 is keyed a gear wheel 28 fig. 3 which is engaged with a toothed wheel 29 mounted on a double crank shaft 30. This shaft 30 has at each of its ends a crank arm 31 respectively (fig. 3 and 4), these arms having on the shaft 30 the same position with respect to each other and being articulated by their free ends to connecting rods 33 and 34, each of these being articulated at 35 respectively 36 to the cylinder bearings 37 and 38 respectively (fig. 9). ).
These cylinder bearings are mounted on a frame 37a having side arms 39 and 40, which <B> are </B> slidably mounted within the guideways 41 and 42 formed in the flanges 10 and 11. This frame 37a of the cylinder is held in the guideways by counterplates 43 and 44, which are fixed to the flanges 10 and 11.
The cylinder 45 is carried by the cylinder bearings 37 and 38 and has two hubs 46 and 47 which are housed in these bearings. These hubs 46 and 47 are integral with the main part of the cylinder 48 of semi-cylindrical shape (Fig.11) on which is placed the setting 49 fixed to. one end between part 48 of the cylinder and a bar 50, which is locked in position by two support arms 51 (Figs. 11, 12 and 13) each of which is mounted eccentrically on a stud 52, which passes through the ends of the cylinder.
On a reduced end of this stud 52 is fixed an eccentric 53, on which are mounted the support arms 51 which receive their movement by rotation of the stud 52 for example by means of a screwdriver. The start-up is stretched on its support 48 by means of two square bars 54 and 55 (fig. 11) which are held in the adjusted position by a ratchet mechanism 56 '(fig. 9) arranged: at one d2 their ends .
On the bar 50 is disposed a series of spring-loaded gripping fingers 56 (fig. 10, 11, 13) formed by plungers crossing this bar, one end of each plunger being engaged with a corresponding lever 57 (fig. 11) fixed to an engagement shaft 58 articulated between the ends of the cylinder. On one end of the engagement shaft is fixed an oscillating arm 59 carrying at its free end a roller 60 (fig. 8), which, during part of the revolution of the cylinder, engages with a trigger lever of the gripper. cylinder. 61 attached to a tree 62.
On this lever 61 is mounted titi roller 63 located on the path of two cams, one lower 65 and the other upper 66 (fig. 3) arranged on a sliding bar 64 which receives rapid reciprocating movement at the upper limits. upper and lower displacement of the cylinder 45, by means of a groove-cam 67 (fig. 3) whose movement is transmitted by means of a lever with two arms 70 and 70 'pivoted cry 68. The arm 70 'titi ga let door 69, which is housed in the cam groove 67 and the other arm 70 is articulated at the lower end of the sliding bar 64.
In other words, it will be seen that the cylinder grippers 56 are controlled by the mechanism actuated by the cam 67 keyed on the main shaft 27. The grippers must be actuated rapidly at the upper and lower limits of the stroke of the cylinder. cylinder. At the upper end of the cylinder stroke, this actuation is caused by the cam 66, to allow the release clamps 71 to remove the printed sheet from the cylinder, after which this sheet is fed to the pusher table 21.
At the lower end of the cylinder stroke, the cylinder grippers are rapidly actuated by cam 65 in order to allow the sheet of paper to be aligned with the cylinder just before the point when the clamps cylinder grab the sheet and before the print movement up the cylinder. The grippers are closed and held closed by springs 72 surrounding the plungers (Fig. 11).
In this type of machine, it is necessary for the cylinder to be free to rotate when it is unlocked to prepare it. Normally, during the downward movement of the cylinder, the latter is unlocked from its control mechanism, but locked against accidental rotation, by a ratchet mechanism comprising a pawl 166 (fig. 8) carrying a roller 167 which, during the downward movement of the cylinder, is located in a notch 168 formed in one of its ends. This pawl 166 is articulated by one of its ends to a stop 169 which is mounted on the cylinder hub 46, and held against any rotation by a pin 170 which fixes it to the cylinder bearing.
Between one lug of member 169 and the free end of pawl 166 is interposed a spring 171, which resiliently holds roller 167 inside notch 168 to prevent accidental rotation of the cylinder. As said above, it is desirable to be able to rotate the cylinder while it is being prepared.
To obtain this result, we insert in one of the openings 172 (fig. 10) of the periphery of the rim of the cylinder, a rod thanks to which we can give the cylinder a sudden movement, by which the roller 167 is pushed out of the notch 168 despite the tension of the spring 171. The roller 167 occupies the notch 168 during the downward movement of the cylinder, that is to say when the cylinder is not in operation. However, when the cylinder makes its upward movement, it rotates, and therefore the roller 167, during this printing operation, is not in size 168. The roller 167 is riveted in. the size 168 at the upper limit of the upward movement of the cylinder.
Under normal operating conditions, the cylinder is rotated one full turn as it is moved upward, this cylinder movement corresponding to the printing movement. At the upper limit of the upward movement of the cylinder it is triggered, and therefore, when it moves downward, it does not rotate, it being understood that the notched part of the cylinder is opposite the characters. during the downward movement of the cylinder.
The cylinder can also move upwards without rotating, in which case the cylinder is unlocked from the control gear, this being the case when no material has been supplied to the transfer table, which - is provided with suction or suction means forming part of the control system mentioned below.
Referring more particularly to FIGS. 9, 11 and 23, we see that one end of the cylinder has; fixed on it, a pivot 73, to which is articulated a lever 74, on one end of which is articulated a latch 75, which receives a reciprocating movement through an opening 76 of the end of the cylinder, said latch being capable of being brought engaged and disengaged with a member 77, attached to the arm 78 of the cylinder control gear 79, which gear engages with a rack 80 (Fig. 1) rigidly attached to a support plate 81 which is movable towards up and down. These or ganes are arranged so that when the cylinder goes up or down, the support plate with the rack, moves in the opposite direction.
When the worm gear 75 and 77 are engaged, the cylinder is forced to rotate, because during the operation of the machine the control gear 79 of the cylinder is continuously in rotational motion during the raising and lowering of the cylinder. cylinder. If these members are not engaged with each other, the cylinder is not rotated, despite the rotation of the gear 79. The latch 75 is resiliently held in the locking and unlocking position. by a spring plunger 74a, the end of which is bevelled is engaged with a roller 74L carried at one end of the lever 74. At this end of this lever is articulated a rod 82 which coincides with the longitudinal axis of the cylinder.
On the outer end of the rod 82 (fig. 19 and 23) between a collar 83 and a washer 84 is freely mounted a member 85, to which is articulated the forked arm 86 of an angled lever pivoted at 87 on a console 88 mounted on bearing 38 of the cylinder; the other forked arm 89 of the angled lever is articulated at its end to a hammer 90 having a spring 91 which engages in friction with the side walls of. the fork of the arm 89 to maintain the dog 90 by .frotement in various positions.
This hammer 90 is located on the path of two stops 92 and 93 arranged on a bar 94 which receives a reciprocating movement by means of a roller 95 mounted on its lower end (fig. 2) and housed in a cam groove 96 a disc mounted on the shaft 30, and having two bosses 97 and 98, all said posed so that the bar 94 is set in reciprocating movement upwards and downwards slightly. quantity with great rapidity when the cylinder is at its upper and lower ends of movement, respectively.
A guide member with pi vot 99 (fig. 2) is mounted on the side flap 11 and is connected to the lower end of the bar 94, the upper end of the bar being slidably mounted in a guiding block. 100 (fig. 23) attached to part 17. The hammer 90, which receives its movement from the stops 92 and 93, transmits its movement to the latch 75 to lock and unlock the cylinder with respect to its control gear 79. The hammer 90 , and consequently also the cylinder lock, is -parti cularly controlled pneumatically.
A vacuum pump 101 (fig. 2) controlled by the motor 16 is provided to produce the vacuum in a device comprising a .con pick 102, connected to a main control valve 103, the movable part of which can be actuated at the hand _ by rods 104.
To this valve 103 is connected a pipe 105, which, in turn, is connected to a box 106 containing a chamber 107 (fig. 14), in which are mounted two-drawers 108 and 109, the first controlling a pipe 110 ( fig. 2) telescopically mounted in a vacuum chamber <B> 111, </B> said pipe 110 being connected to a pipe 112 (fig. 19 and 20) in turn connected with a pipe 113 leading to a fitting 114 (fig. 21) mounted on the frame 115 of the transfer table. . which is provided with suction passages 116, 117 and 118 (fig. 26).
The passage 116 leads to one branch of a U-shaped vacuum chamber 119, the passage 118 being connected to the other branch of this chamber and the passage 117 being connected there to the curvature. To the frame 115 is fixed the transfer table 120 itself, (fig. 26 and 27) provided with a series of openings 121 to which the suction extends, the air being sucked through the pipe 116 towards the pump. empty. The operation of the machine is controlled by the transfer table, as indicated above, depending on whether the suction openings 12.1 are or are not covered by a sheet, for example of paper supplied from the reserve table.
The plunger 122 of a dash-pot (fig. 7) mounted on the cylinder frame on the left side, is pushed outwards by the vacuum propagating through passage 117 (fig. 26) so that it engages a handle of a motor switch 127, resiliently mounted so as to automatically open this switch and stop machine operation, if the cylinder moves from its lower position upwards, with a sheet remaining on the transfer table instead of being picked up by the cylinder.
When the cylinder and the transfer table are at their upper limit of movement and the openings 121 are closed, the rod 123 (Fig. 23) of a vacuum plunger 124 which is connected by line 124 'to passage 118 ( Fig. 19 and 20) of frame 115, is caused by the vacuum produced on the rear face of 124 to move outward. This rod is engaged with the hammer 90, and thus moves the lower end of the latter on the path of the stop 93, mounted on the bar 94.
At the lower limit of downward movement of the cylinder, this stopper 93 receives a relatively short and rapid upward movement as a result of the cam boss (fig. 2), so that it lifts hammer 90 slightly (fig. 23) thereby causing cylinder latch 75 to move into engagement with member 76, thereby rusting the cylinder for preparatory rotation and its upward or printing movement.
When the cylinder reaches its upper limit of upward movement, the stopper 92 of the bar 94 moves slightly downward with rapid action as a result of the cam boss 97, and engages the upper end of the cylinder. hammer 90, thus bringing the latch 75 out of engagement with the member 77, or, in other words, by unlocking the cylinder and also causing the lower end of the hammer 90 to, move inwardly out the path of the stop 93, and by pushing the vacuum plunger 124 into its position shown in FIG. 0.3. At the upper limit of upward movement of the cylinder,
the cylinder clamps are opened by the action of the cam 66 (fig.8 and 11) after which the printed sheet is gripped by the release clamps 71 (fig. 3) before being moved to the pusher. During the upward movement of the cylinder and the transfer table, a sheet of eg paper is fed from the reserve stack to the transfer table 120, and when the cylinder and the transfer table reach their upper limit of movement, the sheet is placed or deposited on the transfer table, where it is held by the suction which is exerted through the openings 121, which suction continues until the cylinder and the transfer table move together downwards ,
have reached their lower limit of movement, after which the sheet is brought into a suitable correspondence relation with the cylinder and the side guide. Under normal operating conditions, the cylinder clamps grip the sheet of material, and the cylinder which, in the meantime, at its lower limit of movement, has been locked by the action of stopper 93, hammer 90 and associated parts (Fig. 23), then rotates when moved upward during the printing operation.
If, however, the sheet is not removed from the transfer table, the plunger 122, which has been pushed out - out, is in the path of a switch arm 127 (fig. 7), so that during the upward movement of the cylinder and the transfer table, the arm 127 is moved upward by this plunger 122, breaking the motor circuit, and bringing the parts to the rest state.
On the camshaft 30 is mounted a cam 128 (fig. 15 and 17) which controls the operation of the spool 108, said spool having a control rod 129 articulated at its lower end to one end of a lever 130, of which the opposite end is driven by a roller 131 moving on the cam 128.
The cam rotates counterclockwise as seen in fig. 15 and in the position shown, the vacuum has been cut at the transfer table to allow the sheet to be fed or stored, vacuum being cut during the interval on the cam indicated between the reference letters xy. The period of cam 128 between y and z indicates the time that the transfer table is vacuumed so that the plunger 122 can cause the motor switch to open by the switch handle 127 during upward movement. cylinder if the sheet of material remains on the transfer table instead of being picked up by the cylinder.
The part of the cam indicated by z-iv is a period during which the vacuum is cut off, with the cylinder about to begin its downward movement when point xv of the cam is reached. The part of the cam indicated by iv-x is a period during which the suction is put on the transfer table, and therefore on the plungers 122 and 124 when a sheet is on the table to cover the holes 121;
the cylinder and the transfer table, meanwhile, moving downward, and, as indicated above, at point x of cam 128, the suction is interrupted to allow the sheet to be fed. It is understood that each time a sheet placed on the transfer table obstructs the holes 121 of the passage 118, the plunger 124 is moved outwards by the vacuum produced on its rear face, causing, by its rod 123, the lower end of hammer 90 on the path to stop 93 (fig. 23).
As mentioned above, the sheets to be printed, for example of paper, are placed first on the reserve table 19, from where they are transferred, sheet by sheet, to the transfer table 120, Each sheet must be fed to the cylinder for printing, and from where it is taken by the release pins and placed on the pusher. Consequently, the sheets are successively brought from the reserve and deposited: on one side of the cylinder, the printed sheets being successively brought on the opposite side thereof.
The sheets are transported from the reserve stack to the transfer table by the suction feed mechanism, comprising a suction shoe 173 (fig. 18), freely mounted in a frame 174, the suction shoe being connected by a tube. flexible 175 to a pipe 176 connected to the vacuum source by connections comprising a step 177 (fig. 24) in one of the feed arms or levers 178 carrying the suction shoe, communicating with an opening 179 of the oscillating shaft of the feed arm 180 (fig. 1) having openings 181 facing an opening of the drawer 182,
which opening communicates with titi pas sage 183 (fig. 14) inside the box 106, said passage 183 being controlled by the reciprocating spool 109. This spool is controlled by a cam 184 (fig. 16 and 17) mounted on the shaft 30, next to the cam 128. The spool 109 and the cam 184 are operatively connected by a bar 185, the lower end of which is connected to a lever 186 pivoted between its ends, and having to its outer end a roller 187 which moves on the cam 184.
The suction is extended to the suction shoe 173 at the moment when a sheet is to be transferred from the reserve table to the transfer table, and during this time only, the cam 184 controlling the necessary interruption. As the suction shoe 173 grasps a sheet on the reserve table 19, the cylinder and the transfer table are in their lowest position, and it is during the upward movement of the cylinder and the transfer table that the su ceur shoe 173 is moved towards the transfer table;
and at the upper limit of the movement of the transfer table, the sheet carried by the suction shoe 173 is deposited on the latter and is released there, when the suction is cut off on the suction shoe 1 "r3. At the same time, suction is established at the transfer table to grasp and hold the sheet of material on it.
As mentioned above, the suction shoe is carried by arms 178 mounted on a shaft 180 (fig. 2) one of these arms 178 having a projection 188 at the free end of which a rod 189 is connected to the shaft. lower end of which is arranged a roller 190 housed in a cam track 191 of a cam 192, mounted on the camshaft 30. The lower end of the rod 189 is strengthened and guided by a connecting rod 193, pivoted at one end to the rod, and at the other end to the side flange.
From this connection, it emerges that when the cam 192 is set in rotation, the arms 178 and the suction shoe carried by them will be put into reciprocating movement back and forth between the reserve table and the transfer table. At the front end of the suction shoe is articulated in 194 (fig. 1 and 2) a connecting rod 195, to the lower end of which is connected a block 196 elastically mounted, movable rear and forward cry, in a slide 197 pivoted in 198 to part 17, and the displacement of which in this slide 197 is commanded by the movement of the arm 178.
On the slide 197, between its ends, is articulated a rod 199, spring, which is connected at its lower end to one end of a lever 200 pivoted between its ends 201 to the flange 11; the other end of the lever carrying a roller 202 which cooperates with a cam 203 so that the suction shoe is brought into contact with the upper sheet of the reserve stack at the desired time, as shown in FIG. 1. The mechanism of the suction shoe is carried with articulation by the arms 178, said mechanism of which can be released by simply pressing a lever 230 (fig. 5) which is connected to a centering stopper 231 mounted to slide. in one of the arms 178.
When the plug 231 is removed from its normal position, the entire suction shoe can be removed from the arms 178 first by a sideways movement, then by a lateral movement.
The transfer table 120 in addition to having an up and down movement with the cylinder, receives an oscillating movement against the cylinder as it moves down with the latter to bring the front part of the sheet is in the correct position relative to the cylinder, and it moves away from the cylinder by a small amount as it moves upwards. The transfer table is also moved transversely for side margining, this movement occurring just when the table and cylinder reach their lower limit of movement.
On each end of the rod 62 (fig. 7 and 8) is mounted a finger 135, at each of these fingers is articulated a tensioner 136 and on this one is articulated a lever 137, pivoted between its ends on journals 138 arranged. on the cylinder bearings. To the upper ends of the arms 137 is connected the frame carrying the transfer table. To one of these tensioners (fig. 19) is pivotally fixed a block 139 slidably mounted in a slightly inclined guide member 140, fixed to part 17.
Therefore, when the cylinder is moved upward to its upper limit of movement, the transfer table is oscillated away from the cylinder, and when the cylinder and the transfer table are lowered, the latter is caused to oscillate upward. cylinder so that the advancing edge of the material sheet gets closer and closer to the cylinder clamps, and at the point where the cylinder and transfer table reach their lower limit of motion, the transfer table has oscillated towards the cylinder clamps such an amount that the sheet of material is placed directly in engagement with the cylinder gripper fingers under the head thereof.
When the transfer table approaches this lower limit of movement, this table is also moved transversely by means of the following mechanism: in one of the arms 137 supporting the transfer table (fig. 6) smooth neck a finger 141 protruding of the transfer table. The other arm <B> 137 </B> supporting the transfer table is provided with two lugs 142 (fig. 19, 20 and 22) between which is housed a tab 143 formed at one end of a journal 144 bearing a roller 145, mounted so as to be able to move in an arcuate groove 146 formed in a slide 147, which slides in a guide member 148, fixed to the cylinder bearing.
The journal 144 is mounted at one end of an arm 149 pivoted at 150 so that the arm can oscillate transversely in the guide member 148, this member having an oblong opening 151 (Fig. 22) to allow the oscillating movement. of the arm 149 with the parts carried by the latter. The lower end of the slider 147 is grooved to receive the head-shaped portion 152 (Figs. 19 and 20) of a spring-loaded alternating motion rod 153, which is moved upward by the lower end. of said rod engaging with a projection 154 (FIG. 2) carried by the part 17.
The rod 153 and associated parts are carried by the cylinder bearing, so that it is during the last part of the movement of the ashes of the cylinder that the rod 153 is moved upwards, and during this movement upwards of the rod 153, the slider 147 connected thereto is moved upwards, causing the journal 144, by the effect of the cam groove 146, to move to the left as seen in fig. . 20. Therefore, as a result of the connections 142 and 143 the transfer table is moved laterally for side marginalization.
As the transfer table moves sideways, the suction at the table is cut off, the edge of the sheet engaging a side arm 126 (Figs. 6 and 7) to laterally limit movement of the sheet in view. B> the </B> lateral marginalization, when the transfer table continues its lateral movement. This lateral arm 126 is placed on the path of the sheet which moves laterally just at the time of concordance.
The arm 126 which is normally held elevated is secured in a jaw portion 155 which in turn is secured to a rod 156, the jaw portion at its rear end having a protrusion 157 which engages. with an attached cam 158 of the cover plate to give a necessary plunging movement to the arm 126 at the desired time, to place it in the path of the sheet, with the outer end of the arm not being in one of the a series of grooves 159 (fig. 26).
At the upper end of one of the arms 137 is articulated at 160 (fig. 7 and 8) an oscillating plate 161, the lower part of which is connected to a fixed rod 162 fixed in turn to a molded part 163 forming the support for the lateral screeding arm 126. The free end of this oscillating plate 161 is located below a finger 164 which it supports and which is fixed to the smoothing bar 165 which is articulated at 166 'to a pair of ears on the frame of the transfer table.
It can be seen, from this arrangement, that when the upper ends of the arms 137 are made to oscillate towards the cylinder during the downward movement of the latter, the smoothing bar 165 can fall into its lowest position, which position it takes when the cylinder is in its lowest position and at which time the sheet is drawn from the transfer table onto the cylinder by the grippers of the latter, the smoothing bar 165 then smoothing the sheet. When the upper ends of the arms. 137 are moved away from the cylinder by oscillation during the upward movement thereof, the smoothing bar 165 is raised and finally assumes the position shown in FIG. 7, where the cylinder is in its highest position.
The printed sheets are taken from the cylinder when it is in its upper limit of movement, and delivered to the pusher by the release clamps 71 (fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4) which include upper and lower jaws 204 and 205 (FIG. 4) normally maintained in the closed position by a series of springs 206 surrounding fingers 207 fixed to a bar 208 interposed between the upper and lower jaws. These jaws, at their rear end, are attached to a shaft 209 having flattened portions and which is connected to release levers 210 which are attached to a swing shaft 211 (Fig. 3).
Attached to the oscillating shaft is also a part 212 (Fig. 4) having a guide groove for a roller 213 mounted on one side of a cam 214 which is mounted on the main shaft 27. Therefore, when the cam 214 is rotated, release levers 210 are oscillated back and forth between cylinder 45 and pusher 21.
The jaws of the release clamps must be opened at the time when a printed sheet is to be removed from the cylinder, and also at the time when this printed sheet is to be delivered to the pusher. <B> To </B> open the jaws, one has to provided a bar 215 connected by one of its ends to a collar 216 slidably mounted on one of the jacks 210 and connected by the other to one end of the bar 208. The collar 216 slidably mounted is articulated a connecting rod 217, which in turn is articulated to an arm of a doorbell 218 articulated to the frame 219. The other arm of the doorbell lever is provided with a roller 220, which cooperates with a cam 214 having projections 221 and 222.
When the cam projection 222 engages the roller, the bar 215 is lifted and the clamp jaws 204 and 205 are opened to grip the printed sheet on the cylinder for removal. The printed sheet is dragged to the top of the pusher, at which point the roller 220 engages with the projection 221 so that the jaws are again opened to allow said sheet to be deposited on the pusher. As the gripped release clamps feel the printed sheet on the platen, it is necessary that the active ends of the clamps be lowered to engage the printed sheet.
To bring the grippers to lower at this point, a bar 223 is provided which is connected by its upper end with the jaws 204 and 205 by a lever 223a and the lower end of which carries a roller 224 which is displaced. gable in a one-piece cam groove 225 in the form of an arc articulated between its ends at 226 to the side flange 11.
To the arc-shaped part 225 is connected a connecting rod 226a having, at its lower end, a roller 227 which cooperates with a cam 228 to transmit to the arc-shaped part 225 an oscillating movement which transmits to the shaft. 209 and consequently to the jaws of grippers 204 and 205 a movement in order to make them lower. As soon as the jaws grip the printed sheet they oscillate slightly upward to completely disengage that sheet from the cylinder clamps, and at this point the release clamps begin their movement towards the pusher. A spring 229 maintains the roller 227 in contact with the cam 228, so that the movements transmitted to the arc-shaped part 225 correspond at all times to the profile of the cam.
The main shaft 27 is provided with a my level 230 (FIG. 3) to which is articulated a connecting rod 231, the upper end of which is articulated to the plate 232 which receives and supports the usual grooved frame. When this plate is in its lowest position the cylinder is in its highest position, and all these parts go up and down in a straight line in vertical planes, and in opposite directions, to give a balanced high speed action. The plate carries, fixed on it, the rack 80 (fig. 1 and 9) which is in constant mesh with the cylinder control gear 79.
Figs. 28 to 32 partially represent a second embodiment of the press.
In this example, the main frame 233 of the press comprises a part 234, to which is articulated at 235 a table frame 236 carrying a reserve table 237; on which is placed the supply of sheets to be brought to the press. The frame 238 in which the cylinder 239 is mounted so as to be able to turn is set vertically in reciprocating motion by means of a mechanism not shown in the drawing, to which it is connected at 240 (fig. 31). The transfer table 241 is attached to arms 242, which in turn are hinged at 243 "to the cylinder frame 238. Therefore, as the cylinder moves up or down, the transfer table does the same. movement.
'On the cylinder frame 238 on opposite sides of the cylinder are fixed support brackets 244 in each of which is mounted a journal or pin 245. On each of these journals 245 is hinged a support arm 246, normally pushed upwards by a torsion spring 247, as shown in FIG. 28 and 30, the spring 247 being connected to the arm 246 and the journal 245. The tension of the spring in each case can be adjusted by inserting a screwdriver into the screw head of the journal 245, and the journal is held in the set position. by an adjusting screw 248.
The lateral feeder device comprises a graduated bar 249 mounted in an adjustable manner in a groove 250 (fig. 30 and 31) of these support arms 246, and is fixed in the adjusted position by a plate covering it 251 and a screw 252 which passes through. through the plate and into the arm 246. As shown in fig. 28 and 29, the bar 249 has an arm 253, integral with it, extending perpendicular to it and provided with a threaded opening 254 into which is screwed to rotate a cup-shaped member 255, which can be fixed. in any position adjusted by a nut 256.
This cup-shaped member has an opening passing therethrough for receiving a rotatable axis 257 and movable longitudinally having an enlarged head 258 with an opening in it to receive the side feeder bar 259. The cup-shaped member <B> 255 </B> has an opening extending diametrically 260 for the exact positioning of the bar 259 with respect to the level of the transfer table to maintain the adjusted position, even if the bar was removed from the throat, in a manner discussed later.
In this regard, a spring 261 is wound around the outer end of the journal 257, and is interposed between one end of the member 255 and a washer 262 attached to one end of the journal 257, so that the bar 259 is retained. elastically in the opening 260 of the member 255.
If, however, it is desired to rotate the feeder bar 259 from its normal operating position, for example when it is desired to remove the transfer table, this can be done by pushing the bar 259 sideways (for example using a screwdriver screwdriver). levering in an adja cente notch 263) by compressing the spring 261 until the bar 259 is beyond the opening 260, after which the bar can be rotated by the desired amount, the position of the opening however remaining unchanged.
When bar 259 is rotated to be returned to its original position, it re-enters opening 260 to occupy the position it had prior to removal, without any change in its position relative to the top surface of the bar. the transfer table.
With the part of the. head 258 'housed in the cup-shaped portion of member 255 and bar 259 in opening 260 of member 255, bar 259 is securely attached by the action of spring 261.' One end of the feeder bar 259 is provided with a threaded part to receive an adjustable stopper 264 terminated in a finger 265, said stopper 264 and its finger 265 passing during the margeage action, in one a series of grooves 266 in the transfer table.
The stopper 264 is screwed into the bar 259, to perform the slight or delicate final adjustment relating to the positioning of the front part of the sheet, and is held in an adjusted position by a finger 267 having a pointed end which can be tucked into one of a series of notches on one side; of the stop member 264, the finger being pushed elastically into these notches by a res out 268 fixed to the bar 269.
With regard to the operation of the lateral margining mechanism, after preparation it becomes necessary to place or match or match the sheet laterally with respect to the printing form. For this, a sheet of eg paper 270 is placed on the transfer table 241, usually by hand; in the approximate position, and the adjustable side bar 259 with the parts connected to it, is set to stop the sheet (when the cylinder is at the lower end of its stroke) for a proof or test print.
An error in the arrangement revealed by this test can be corrected by further adjustment of the lateral regulator, i.e. by moving the graduated bar 249, which is connected to the lateral bar 259, lengthwise in the groove 250 of the support arm 246, after which the graduated bar 249 and the parts connected to it will again be locked in position by the screw 252. It may be necessary to make a more precise adjustment, which can be done by turning the knob d stop 264 one way or the other, after which it is held in the adjusted position by the spring loaded finger 267.
Thus the bar 259 is adjustable with respect to the graduated bar 249, and also with respect to the transfer table 241, so that the stop button 264 and the finger 265 can occupy any of the grooves 266 of the transfer table 241, so that stop button 264 is approximately in the middle of the side edge of any sheet used. As soon as the sheet is definitively placed on the transfer table, the indication on the sliding-adjustable graduated bar 249 is observed, and this indicates and determines the position of the reserve 271 on the reserve table 237, because only then is it necessary to adjust the reserve guide 272, and the block 273 attached to it and which moves on the scale 274 as indicated by the scale of the graduated bar 249.
Therefore, the reserve can be placed against the guide 272 and the other three guides 275, 276, 277 adjusted to retain the reserve stack in contact with the stack guide 272. A sheet then taken from the reserve stack by medium. automatic and deposited on the transfer table is out of lateral correspondence by an amount determined in advance, as indicated at 278.
The lowering movement of the front part of the transfer table from the position shown in fig. 30 to the position shown in FIG. 31, which is executed by a mechanism not shown in the drawing and which is connected to the arm 242 at 279, first sets the sheet against the cylinder clamps 280, then a lateral movement of the transfer table (as described above for the first example) brings the sheet against the side feed button 264 which, at this time, has been lowered from its raised position, as shown in fig. 30, to its operating position,
as shown in fig. 31 by a cam <B> 281 </B> cooperating with a member 282 fixed to the support 246. As soon as the sheet has reached its limit of lateral displacement, it is gripped by the cylinder clamps 280, and when it is withdrawn from the transfer table, the side feeder bar 259 moves upwards, out of engagement with the sheet under the influence of the coil spring 247,
the upward movement of the side feeder mechanism being limited by a protrusion 283 of the carrier member 246 coming caught with a stop 284 of the console 244. <B> It </B> is important that the side feeder bar is raised before the paper is removed <B> do </B> the transfer table by the cylinder, because the feeder stop button 264 would be displaced and made inaccurate. The finger 285 serves to lower the sheet with its so-called lateral margining moment, and ensures perfect margining by bringing the sheets into correct alignment at the desired time, the finger being especially useful in case the sheet is folded or rolled.
A detailed variant of the lateral feeder mechanism is shown in fig. 33 and 34, in which the side feeder bar 285 carries, attached at its outer end, a fixed stop button 286 and a finger 287, the slight or fine adjustment being effected by adjusting the pivotally mounted bar support 288 by relative to the graduated bar 289 laterally smoothing neck by the actuation of a nut 290 screwed onto a stud 291, around which is wound a coil spring 292 disposed between the bar 289 and an arm of the bar support 288.
The side feeder bar 285 is held adjustably in position by means of a latch 293 connected to the bar support 288, which is articulated at 294 to the sliding graduated bar 289. In the example to which the fig. 35 to 42, it can be seen that in the main frame 295 of the printing press are supported so as to be able to slide organs 296 which, in turn, support the printing cylinder 297 having a vertical movement, like the also does the co-operating frame which is slidably mounted in frame 295, it being understood that the frame and cylinder move simultaneously in opposite directions.
A transfer table 298 is integral with the cylinder frame and therefore moves up and down with it. In this press, the sheets of material which are to receive an impression are fed from a reserve stack <B> 20 </B> on the reserve table 300 to the transfer table 298 from where they are transferred to the cylinder 297. , on which they are imprinted, after which they are removed. The reserve table 300 is provided with a support bar 301 having a rack 302 which engages a gear 303 mounted on a section 304 of a shaft having a second section 305, which is removably connected to the section. 304 by a clutch 306.
The bar 301 is movably mounted in the console 307, which is hinged to an arm. 308 by two vertically aligned journals 309 and 310, the arm 308 is connected to the main frame 295. This console is arranged so as to be able to be locked in the walking position.
With reference to fig. <I> 37 </I> and 38, it will be noted that the shaft section 304 carries, fixed on it, a collar 311 whose groove 312 receives the blocks 313 in the arms 314 of a movable lever 315, which is articulated at 316 to the console 307. The collar 311 has near it a coil spring 317 which surrounds a portion of the shaft section 304, said spring having one end abutting against said collar 312, and the other end abutting against a shoulder 318 of a sleeve 319, fixed to the console 307.
One end of the shaft section is provided with clutch teeth 320 to engage the corresponding notches 321 of the journal portion 322 of a control lever 323. When it is desired to raise or lower the table of reserve by hand, this can be done by pushing the control lever 315, after which the shaft section 304 will slide in opposition to the spring 317 so that its teeth 320 will engage in the notches 321, after which the crank 323 can be turned in either direction to transmit the upward or downward movement to the reserve table by the gear 303 and the rack 302. When the shaft section 304 is engaged with the crank 323, it is disengaged from the shaft section 303.
It is through the shaft section 305 that the automatic lifting movement is transferred to the reserve table 300. In connection with the transfer mechanism through which the reserve is transferred from the reserve table to. the transfer table 298 or to the printing cylinder 297, there are two arms. 324 of which only one is shown, arranged one on each side of the press, these arms being mounted on, and fixed to a shaft 325.
With one of the arms 324 forms a secondary arm 326 at the outer end of which an arm 327 is articulated, the lower end of which cooperates with a hull 328, by means of which the arms 324 are oscillated backwards and forward between the reserve table 300 and the cylinder 297 to transfer a sheet of material from the reserve stack 299 to the transfer table 298. The top sheet of the reserve stack 299 is gripped by a suction shoe 329 (fig. 42) whose arms 330 have journals which are articulated in bearing portions 331 at the upper ends of the arms 324.
In order for the suction shoe to effectively grip the top sheet of paper on the reserve stack 299 in each case, it is necessary that the shoe has a variable lowering within certain predetermined limits.
To transmit to the suction shoe a movement to lower it. a finger 332 has been mounted on one end of an arm of the arm journal 330 <B> </B>, at the outer end of which is articulated a main plunger arm 333, the lower end of which is bent laterally to form a console 334 (fig. 41), an intermediate portion of this arm being provided with an elongated groove 335 to receive with the possibility of sliding a journal 336 mounted in, and carried by a block 337 which is mounted with a smooth neck in a vacuum 338 forming part of the arm 324. At the outer end of the barrel 336 is fixed a block 339 which is slidably mounted in a groove of a member 340, one end of which is articulated at 341 to the inner side of the hard frame arm 308.
Thus when the arm 324 is placed between the reserve stack 299 and the cylinder 297, the reciprocating movement cry backward cry and the forward cry, the block 339 moves from one end of the groove of the member 240 to the other.
When the suction shoe, which is carried by the arms 324, has reached its limit of movement above the reserve stack, it is forced to descend to engage the top sheet of the reserve by a transmitted movement. by a bar 342, the end of which is articulated to the member 340 and the other end of which is resiliently connected by a spring 343 to a rod 344 whose lower end is operatively connected with a roller 345 housed in a groove- carne 346.
When the suction shoe receives its plunging action, the block 339 is near the left end of the member 340, the latter member receiving shot) downward oscillating movement.
The reserve table 300 is raised each time it is actuated, by an amount corresponding to several thicknesses of paper and it will be understood that during the interval, the suction shoe will have a variable descent and likewise the arm. 333 will have variable longitudinal movement. The oscillating downward movement of the member 340 is however constant. Therefore a compensating mechanism must be provided between the oscillating member 340 and the main plunger arm 333. This compensating mechanism comprises a spring 347 (fig. 41) which is interposed between the console 334 and a console 348 through which passes the trunnion 336.
Trunnion 349 extends downward from bracket 348 to retract coil spring 347. As shown in FIG. 41 The spring 347 hand holds the resiliently lowered arm 333 so that the journal 336 occupies the top of the elongated groove 335. Now assuming that the top reserve sheet on the reserve stack is at the determined top height d Avarice, under these conditions the lowering given to the sucking shoe will be the minimum, and therefore the longitudinal movement of the arm 333 will be the minimum.
However in view of the fact that the body 340 receives a. With constant oscillating motion, console 348 which is attached to journal 336 receives constant upward and downward motion. Therefore when the suction shoe is engaged with the top sheet of material on the reserve stack, this shoe and its main plunger arm remain attached while console 348 continues to move downward, spring 347 compressing and compensating. the differences in motion between the member 340 and the arm 333.
However, as the reserve is removed more from the stack, the suction shoe is lowered. increased as is also the longitudinal downward movement of the arm 333, the movement of the latter being elastically transmitted from the member 340 by the spring 347. It is therefore understood that, if a thickness of 3.175 mm, is removed from the reserve stack before the table is raised 3.175mm the variation in movement of arm 333 is 3.175mm.
In connection with the variable stroke of the arm 333, means are provided for automatically lifting the reserve table by a given amount, for example <B> 3.175 </B> mm when 3.175 mm of the reserve has been lifted from this table.
This automatic mechanism comprises the console 334 which, with each downward movement, is engaged with a stud 350 (fis. 35 and 40) mounted in an adjustable manner in an ear 351 of a console 352 articulated in 353 to a portion. plane 354 of the main support arm 324.
On the console 35 $ is articulated at 355 a finger 356, one end of which is held in engagement with a projection 357 on the console 352 by the spring 358, the other end of this finger being articulated at the upper end of a connecting rod 359, the lower end of which is articulated to a laterally extending projection 360 of an adjustable connecting rod 361, the opposite end of this connecting rod being articulated at 362 (fis. 39 and 36) to a bracket 363 freely mounted on the journal 310.
On this bracket 363 is pivoted a spring-loaded pawl 364, which cooperates with a ratchet wheel 365 which is attached to, or is integral with, a bevel gear 366 (fis. 36) mounted on the journal 310, and which is engaged. with another bevel gear 367 mounted on one end of shaft section 305.
It is therefore apparent that when the ratchet wheel 365 is rotated clockwise, as seen in fact. 39, the reserve table is lifted by an amount corresponding to the length of the teeth of the ratchet, assuming that the shaft sections 304 and 305 are engaged together, as they normally are for automatic actuation of the ratchet. reserve table.
The ratchet 365, however, is not moved each time the connecting rod 361 is moved, for the reason that the longitudinal displacement of the connecting rod 361 is not always large enough to force the pawl 364 to engage the next tooth. of the ratchet wheel 365. The length of the longitudinal stroke of the connecting rod 361 depends directly on the position of the projection 360 in an arcuate groove 368 (fis. 40) of a plate 369 attached to the arm 324. The position of the projection The protrusion 360 in the groove 368 is directly dependent on the extent of the downward movement of the bracket 334 of the arm 333, which movement is transmitted by the stud 350, the bracket 352, the finger 356 and the connecting rod 359.
It is therefore apparent that the more reserve provided by the reserve table, the greater the downward movement of arm 333 and its console 349; and therefore greater is the movement of stud 350, which is engaged by bracket 334 and the parts connected to it, including protrusion 360 of connecting rod 361.
Consequently, when, by. example, 3.175 mm of the reserve has been removed from the reserve table, the parts-which have just been described are actuated to an extent such that the projection 360- occupies the upper part of the groove 368, which is at a distance. greater distance radially from the shaft or center 325 than the inner end of the groove, and therefore the longitudinal travel of the connecting rod 361 is increased by such an amount that the pawl 364 engages the next tooth of the ratchet 365 , to transmit the movement by the shaft sections 305 and 304, the gear 303 and the rack 302,
to raise the reserve table 300. In this way, the reserve on the reserve table is kept at a certain level determined in advance. within operating limits. determined and in such a way as to satisfy all the requirements for satisfactory commercial operation. In the example of fig. 43 and 44, little different from the first, a counter and signaling mechanism is provided to automatically and accurately count the number of sheets passed through the press, and to automatically give a signal when, for any reason, a sheet of material was not brought to the printing units.
The printing press frame 370 carries a bed plate, with the understanding that as the printing cylinder 371 moves in a straight line in one direction, the rack 372 with the bed plate moves in a straight line in the opposite direction. During the movement cry straight line of the cylinder upwards, it turns to give the sheet carried by it an impression, after which this sheet is removed from the cylinder at the upper limit of its movement. During the downward movement of the cylinder, the latter does not turn. Whether or not the cylinder rotates depends on whether or not it is locked to the actuating gear which is engaged with the rack.
Each sheet fed to the printing cylinder is registered at the counter mechanism 388 (shown in fig. 5), which is actuated by a rod 389 which, near its lower end, is provided with a collar 390, the lower end of it. the rod being supported and guided by a bracket 391 fixed to an arm 392 of the frame of the printing press, and it is recalled that when a sheet of material is on the transfer table, the lower end of the hammer 381 , similar to hammer 90 in the first example, is in its position to the right.
It is apparent that as the cylinder carrying hammer 381 is moved down and near its lower limit of motion, the lower end of the hammer engages collar 390, thus giving rod 389 a slight upward movement. low, determining an operation of counter 388.
It is also apparent that if a sheet of material has not been brought to the transfer table, the lower end of the hammer will occupy its left position, and in its downward movement with the cylinder near the limit. lower movement of the latter, will engage a collar 393 worn near the lower end of a rod 394 giving the latter a short downward movement to sound an acoustic signal, such as a doorbell 395, which will indicate the operating condition of the press; or, in other words, that material has not been supplied to the transfer table and the printing cylinder.
The rod 394 is also guided and supported by the console 391. In fig. 43, the bell shank 394 is shown in dotted lines in its signal position. Collets 390 and 393 are adjustable on their shanks to meet various conditions.
