Description

Pressed coal for heating purposes. The invention relates to a pressed coal for heating purposes, which is best. has the shape of the usual coal briquette, but can also have another shape. According to the invention, this pressed coal consists of a pressed and dried mixture of predominantly used coal dust and clay as a binder and filler.

It is most advantageous to use about twice as much coal dust as clay; however, one can use a little less coal dust and a little more clay, if only the coal dust somewhat outweighs the clay in the amount available.

To produce such a pellet, for example, 10 pounds of coal dust are mixed through and through with 4-5 pounds of fatty clay and some water to form a kneadable mass, whereupon this is pressed in a mold and the shaped piece is dried.

The pellet obtained burns excellently and stays nicely together during the fire. The heat development is excellent. The clay, which is used as a binding agent, makes a significant contribution to keeping the heat together in the scorching heat and causes the pellet to burn off slowly so that it lasts for a relatively long time. The ash build-up is insignificantly higher than that of normal coal briquettes.

On the other hand, in view of the use of clay, which is available everywhere, the production costs of the present pellet are significantly lower, so that from this point of view the present coal pellet has to be regarded as extremely economical in view of the excellent burnup.

The present pressed coal is suitable for both domestic and industrial use.

To increase the resistance when lying down, the carbon compact can be coated on the outside with a thin layer of glue, for example by dipping it in an aqueous glue solution.
