Description

Process for the production of tungsten powder The invention relates to a process for the production of tungsten powder.

A known method for the production of tungsten powder, which is to be processed into wire ver, is characterized in that pure tungstic acid is used, which is obtained by decomposing a pure tungstate with an acid. This tungstic acid is then subjected to a high temperature treatment in refractory crucibles and then reduced.

The powder resulting from the beer is then subjected to several mechanical processes, such as pressing, hamming and drawing, for the purpose of producing wire, after which the wire is ready for use in the lamp.

The wire produced in this way shows several defects; It can be seen that, for example, when it is glowing in a lamp, it becomes very brittle, presumably because of crystallization phenomena. As a result of this reduced mechanical strength, the wire is much less able to withstand the shocks that occur when the lamp is switched on, which has an unfavorable effect on the service life.

In order to avoid these errors, it has been proposed to make certain additives (British Patent No. 155851, American Patent No. 1201611) in the manufacture of tungsten powder from tungstic acid.

In the process according to British patent specification No. 155851. a solution containing a silicate, a tantalate or a niobate or a mixture of these bodies with boric acid or boric acid alone is added to an alkali tungstate or its solution.

This forms a double salt, for example a double silicate of tungsten and an alkali metal. From this double salt, silicic acid and tungsten oxide are separated out by decomposition by means of hydrochloric acid, the latter, subject to reduction, yielding powdered, metallic tungsten.

According to the invention, much more favorable results can be achieved by starting from a complex tungstic acid, for example silico-tungstic acid, boro-tungstic acid or the like, instead of a simple tungstic acid. suitable salts of these acids.

The present method differs from the known method fundamentally in that a complex tungsten compound is treated with reducing agents.

There are various ways of producing powdery Volfrani from the complex compounds mentioned in accordance with the present process, some of which are given below.

Example, 1: I; 00 gr Na.Wo, are dissolved in 4000 cm 'of water and neutralized with strong hydrochloric acid. whereupon 48 grams of water glass and 100 cm 'acetic acid (98 iö) are added. Boil until strong hydrochloric acid no longer separates tungstic acid.

After cooling, strong hydrochloric acid is added with stirring, cooled again and finitely saturated with ether, after which 50 g of NaF are added. There are now three layers, at the top an ether layer, then a solution of the sodium salts, and then at the bottom an oil layer - which contains the silicate-Wolfraansolure.

The oil layer, which has formed after about 12 hours, is siphoned out and poured into a separating funnel with twice the volume of water, whereby three layers are formed again. The middle layer is then made to crystallize. The pale yellow crystals obtained are first heated to 150 ° C. for six hours and then to 250 ° C. for three hours. They are then powdered and heated to 1360 ° C. for one hour.

The powder is then reduced to the metal with hydrogen.

Example 11: 1200 g ammonium tungstate are boiled with 600 g gelatinous silica until strong hydrochloric acid no longer separates tungstic acid. The excess silica is then filtered off and the filtrate is evaporated as far as possible.

The white crystalline mass is heated to 150 ° C. for 12 hours, then coarsely powdered and heated to 450 ° C. for three hours. The wax-yellow product is powdered, sieved and reduced in a stream of hydrogen.

Example III 9000 grams of tungsten acid are dissolved in 1 t liter of ammonia solution, made from 7 liters of strong ammonia and 10 liters of water, and filtered. The filtrate is boiled with 3000 grams of gelatinous silica until hydrochloric acid is no more tungstic acid retires.

It is then evaporated until the liquid begins to crystallize, where it is then poured into 1 liter of strong hydrochloric acid with vigorous stirring. The erlia.lten white crystals are sucked dry, dried at 1011 "C, powdered and reduced to metal with hydrogen.

When working in accordance with Examples 2 and 3, there is still the advantage that the Siliko-I # Z'olfra.mat can be reduced immediately and not: as was previously the case, the Wolfranisalze to maintain pure tungstic acid with a Acid must be broken down. Example IV: 1000 g sodium tungstic acid and 1500 g boric acid are dissolved in about four liters of water and boiled until strong hydrochloric acid no longer separates tungstic acid.

This is followed by cooling. The crystals formed are filtered off with suction and the filtrate is boiled again with 700 grams of boric acid and evaporated heavily. After cooling, the crystal mass formed is filtered off with suction and the filtrate is saturated with ether. Then an equal volume of strong hydrochloric acid is added and the oil layer that has formed is siphoned off. With an equal volume of water, the boron-Wolfranisä.ure is excreted and the ether is expelled by an air current.

The liquid is evaporated until crystallization begins, the precipitated crystals are heated to 150 C and the powder obtained is reduced with hydrogen.

The tungsten powder obtained according to this process using silica can, if desired, also be subjected to a treatment with hydrofluoric acid in order to remove any excess SiO 2. The tungsten powder can then be pressed into rods and, after heating and further pretreatment, processed into wire in a known manner, with the silica or the other oxide used in its place evaporating during the so-called sintering. An initially produced rod is characterized by a very fine structure.

5000 to 10,000 particles were found on 19 mm. The wire that is made from this draws. is characterized by a very uniform crystal structure and great flexibility, while the resistance to mechanical influences is significantly higher than that of wires manufactured according to the earlier process. Such a wire withstood 250 strokes on a certain device, while the wire usually used withstood only 100 strokes. A lamp which contained a wire made according to the invention would have a service life about three times as long as a lamp made according to the old method that burned with the same load.

The tungsten powder obtained does not need to be processed exclusively on wire; it can be used for many other purposes.
