Device for pulling weeds growing on berms and ballast banks of railway lines. The object of the present invention is a device for pulling weeds growing on berms and ballast embankments of railway tracks. It comprises a support parallelogram, one of the sides of which is pivoted in a movable carriage transversely to the rails. This device is characterized in that said carriage is under the influence of a pneumatic motor by means of which the position of the device relative to the rails can be adjusted.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
The device shown comprises a pulling member a in the form of a plow ear having a share b and dragged along the railway tracks by means of a carriage, not shown on which the whole apparatus is mounted. The member a is suspended by means of cables not shown from a winch located in the roof of the machine. It is, moreover, supported at its front part by a pivot c which forms one of the sides of the parallelogram which was discussed above. To this pivot are articulated two arms d connected both to a second pivot e mounted in a carriage f which rolls on rollers g driven on profiled irons <I> h </I> arranged transversely to the frame.
At the front and at the rear of these profiled irons are arranged chain wheels i it between which is stretched an endless chain attached to the carriage f.
The wheel <I> i '</I> is wedged on a shaft <I> k </I> receiving its movement by a gear l, the driving part of which is integral with a shaft in mechanical relation, to the using chain sprockets n, with a head o fixed to the end of the rod of an engine piston contained in the cylinder p.
Compressed air can be made to arrive by means of the valve q on one or the other of the faces of the motor piston to see the head o in one direction or the other and to communicate, by the intermediary of the shafts ni and k, a rotary movement with the chain wheels <I> i i '. </I> This rotary movement has the effect of making the carriage roll transversely to the track and of pushing, respectively to make fit the parallelogram <I> cd </I> e inside the chassis. It is possible by this means to quickly and surely adjust the position of the lifting members to the width of the berms and ballast slopes of the track on which one is working and this without putting the forces of the service provider to the contribution of an abnormal way.
