Description
process for the production of paints. Larger amounts of resin-acid clay do not dissolve in turpentine oil, gasoline, benzene and other paint solvents, but result in a gelatinous swelling with these solvents. For this reason, up to now only solutions have been used for the production of paints which contained only a very small percentage of resinous clay.
It has now been found that in the production of paints which contain linseed oil varnish as a base, very valuable properties can be achieved by incorporating a gelatinous swelling of acidic clay in a paint solvent into these paints. This gelatinous swelling is obtained by mixing resin-acid clay with a varnish solvent.
The paints produced in this way can be used in particular as a primer paint, for painting on a tar base and in cases where resistance to soda and lysoil solutions and similar caustic liquids is required.
Example of the preparation of a paint for primer paints: 500 parts of resinous clay and 1000 parts of gasoline are mixed; this creates a colloidal swelling. 50 parts of linseed oil varnish and a further 50 parts of gasoline are added to this mixture, so that the mass has a spreadable consistency.
Example for the production of a resistant paint that can be spread on tar ground: 100 parts iron oxide red, 35 parts linseed oil varnish, 20 parts turpentine oil and 5 parts desiccative are thoroughly rubbed in. 80 parts of a colloidal swelling, which is obtained by mixing 100 parts of resinous clay with 200 parts of turpentine oil, are then added. You work through the whole thing well.
Example of the production of a soclafest paint: 100 parts of iron oxide red, 35 parts of linseed oil varnish, 15 parts of turpentine oil, 5 parts of siccative and 70 parts of a colloidal bulging, which is obtained by that 100 parts of resinous clay with 200 parts of turpentine oil are rubbed in thoroughly.
