Description

Process for manufacturing cages for running gear. The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing cages for running gear, which consists in winding in a helix strips of raw material, of relatively great length and of determined section; cutting from these propellers pieces whose length corresponds to the circumferential length of the desired cages; in mandrating these parts in the form of rings, which are temporarily held between them, two by two, in a correct position, for drilling, in the set of two rings, radial holes intended to serve as housings for the organs bearing.

The appended drawing shows the successive phases of the process for obtaining a cage with running gear.

In this drawing: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a strip suitable for being wound into a helix; Fig. 2 is a front view, in elevation, of the wound strip; Fig. 3 is an elevational view of a portion of the propeller suitable for constituting one of the rings; Fig. 4 is an elevational view of two rings coupled in relative position suitable for drilling the side holes; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a completed cage; Fig. 6 is a front elevation of two joined rings with their flat faces facing each other.

A strip A (fig. 1), of suitable cross section, for example in brass, iron, steel, etc. is wound in a helix around a core (fig. 2). Pieces B (fig. 3), the length of which corresponds to the circumferential length of the desired cages, are cut from this helix and, after having been straightened and calibrated on a mandrel, so as to constitute rings, are placed side by side. two by two (fig. 4) with their respective J joints angularly offset. The next step is to drill side holes a (fig. 5).

These side holes are first used to temporarily hold the two mating rings in a suitable position while drilling in the set of radial holes, partly taken in each ring, b, b (fig. 5), which will serve as housings for the running gear. The holes a are then used, during the assembly of the bearing, for the final assembly of the two rings B or conjugate halves constituting the cage.

Fig. 5 clearly shows the rings B arranged with their faces with notches facing each other and the notches b correspondingly, the joints of the rings being offset by 180 in the example shown. In this figure we will also notice the side holes a, allowing the assembly of the rings.

As shown in fig. 6, the rings B thus obtained could also be used for guiding the rolling members in the bearings which have several rows of them. In this case, the row of rolling members of each ring having to retain its freedom of action with respect to the neighboring row, the rings will be arranged with their flat face vis-à-vis, leaving a certain clearance C between said faces.

Of course, the joint J which exists in each ring, between the two ends of the piece cut from the helix, can be welded or brazed before drilling the radial holes.
