Frankiermaschine.

In special embodiments, the invention aims to improve the design of a fixed and easily portable franking machine and printing device in order to prevent fraudulent generation of stamps and the printing of more than one stamp on a piece of mail without repeating cross-outs with greater security than before gene and any other remarks, as well as to force an exact setting of the counter through a special arrangement.
According to the invention, the franking machine is equipped with a printing drum. which can print a mark, cross-out and date, as well as other information in a single turn, while at the same time driving a counter that can be removed from the machine. The printing drum can be provided with a stamp roll designed for printing a variety of marks, which is adjustable so that the value to be printed can be changed. This stamp roller can be connected to the counter in such a way that it is moved over a distance that is proportional to the printed value. The counter is preferably arranged so that it can only be removed from the machine when the stamp pressing in the marks, to which the machine operator is inaccessible.
Furthermore, means can be provided which enable the production of more than one brand imprint on any mail item without the crossing out and other information being -reiterated.
In the drawing, a Frankierma machine according to the invention is shown in two exemplary embodiments.

A value change device is provided in a hub 42 which forms part of the console 30 and consists of a spindle 43 which carries the incised disc (thumb) 34 and a pin 44, the latter with formed in the end face of the console 42 Slotting engages when the value changing device is in its rest position; the end of the spindle 43 which passes through the housing 40 is provided with a knurled disc 45 for manual operation.
The console 30 carries at its upper end a lock 46, preferably of the interchangeable lock type, which is operated by a key which is provided at 47 on the part 40a of the housing connected to the meter 1, while the lower part of the Lock body on a versebenen with a shoulder pin 48 acts, the lower end of which is cut off at an angle to act on a schllitz th pin 49 which penetrates under the influence of a spring 51a in a hole 50 in the Dau men 51 when the counter I is removed.
The inking device comprises frame plates 52 and 60 rotatably mounted on a rod 53, of which the former has an extension 54 which carries a roller 54a which is in contact with the circumference of the thumb 51 through a tension spring engaging on the plate 52 55 is secured.
An ink cylinder 56, a distributor roller 57 and an ink roller 58 are respectively arranged between the frame plates 52 and 60. stored in these that the paint and distributor roller run in a paint trough 61 seated between the two frame plates. In order to ensure uniform distribution of the color on the paint roller, the spindle 62 is provided on its outwardly projecting end with a button 62a for driving by hand. Ink originating from a collapsible tube or other source is passed through an opening 86 of the housing 40 of the machine and through the open portion 87 of the stationary ink cylinder 56.
The wing 59 is swung out by arms 88 and 89 which, in turn, are moved by the rotation of the shaft 62 to thereby deliver a small amount of paint to the surface of the distributor roller 57.
The pressure exerting roller 28 is carried by a spindle 63 which can be lowered by arms 64 and 65 before being firmly seated on a shaft 66 which runs in bearings 67 and 68 and at one end the lever 37 and at the other End carries a second lever 69 to which a button 70 is hinged for manual operation.
The removable meter 1 is enclosed in a housing 71, which forms a whole with a part of the removable machine housing part 40a, or is attached to a part of the machine housing part 40a, which is screwed to the top, 40 or otherwise removably attached . can be.
This counter comprises a counting set which consists of a series of wheels 72 which are correspondingly numbered units, tens, hundreds, thousands, or if necessary. higher amounts are marked and all are arranged so that they are progressively rotated from one another in the usual manner. will. one wheel being driven directly from the part of the machine that prints the stamp through the star wheel 73 attached to the spindle 74 @.
Some or all of the number wheels of the counting set are niii protruding indentations or thumbs -75 provided, which can come into engagement during the rotation of the wheels with pistons 76 which are slidable in bores of a plate that forms part of the counter framework and is net angeord via a sliding locking rod 77.
This locking rod is seen on its upper side with a number of holes 78 ver, in which a second set of pistons 79 is guided, which engage in the bores of the fixed plate during the handling of the counter, and are enclosed within the locking rod by coil springs, which press pistons 76 outward during normal handling. The piston 79 of the locking rod will so by penetrating into the plate holes the locking rod against longitudinal movements si chern, while the piston 76 holes in the plates normally protrude over the top of the plate and get into the Balhn desr stops or thumb 75 of the Num mernräder.
The number wheels are arranged so that, when the amount paid in advance is used, their previous to saw or thumb 75 all BEZW in such a direction. stand down so that the pistons 76 in the stationary plate are pressed downwards, whereby at the same time the piston 79 of the locking rod 77 are fully pressed back into the bores of the latter.
In this position, the locking bar now hangs under the action of a helical compression spring 80 provided in the frame, and is thereby displaced parallel to the axis of rotation of the number wheels until it acts on a piston 81 under spring tension around the lever 14 to block and thereby put the machine out of operation. A back drift of the counting wheels is prevented by rushing ratchet and ratchet assembly 82, which sits on the main spindle 74.
To ensure that the counter is set correctly, the locking rod 7 7 is obliterated with a slot into which an adjusting screw 83 can be fitted, which is sealed by the post office clerk around the locking rod. The position taken by the locking bar when setting the meter to zero is UM that pressure had to be exerted on up in order to bring it into the correct position so that the adjustment clamp can be inserted and sealed.

By subtracting the amount indicated by the effective counter from the fixed indication of the auxiliary counter, the remaining credit of the user can be determined at any time. In order to be able to print any of a number of values, the rotatable printing drum 2 has a small roller 3 which is eccentric to the axis of rotation of the drum 2 and has a number of value stamps 96 which are arranged so that only one at a time can be brought into a circular line with the other stamps on the surface of the drum, which can be constructed in such a way that it prints a postage stamp, date and location stamp, strikethroughs and, if desired, other information, such as promotions or announcements, during one rotation.
A disk or plate 97 is provided on the spindle of the roller and carries groups of laterally extending pins 98. Each of these groups can be brought into engagement with the star wheel 73 of the counter spindle 74 in order to rotate this spindle over a distance proportional to the printed amount with each rotation of the printing drum.
So that the roller 3 and the pin plate 97 set as desired in a position who can, but are normally fixed to the printing drum 2, the roller is mounted on a hollow shaft 99 in which a spindle 100 can slide, which is nor mally by a Spring 101 is pressed into a position in which a wedge or before jump 102, which is supported by the spindle 100, engages in one of a series of holes that are seen in one side of the drum in front of the roller and the drum to couple together.
One end of the hollow shaft carries the pin plate 97 and the other end is provided with hook parts which can be taken along by a hook part arranged at the inner end of the slidable rod 43, which rod 43 is axially moved or rotated from the outside of the machine housing by means of knurled washer 45 can. When the rod 43 is pushed in again, the hook members engage with each other and the rod 43 is pushed into the shaft 99 in such a way that the roller disengages from the drum.
The rod can be rotated to adjust the roller to change the value of the mark to be printed and to adjust the pin plate so that it drives the counter accordingly. A spring is provided to cause the hook members to automatically disengage when the rod 43 is released from the hand while the spring returns the spindle to the position in which the roller is locked with the drum.
Supports 104 are provided below the base plate 26, through which screws or bolts 105 pass, which connect the housing 40 of the machine to the base plate. Sealing holes 107 are provided in the heads of the screws or bolts 105 that hold the trough 106 in place.
The operation of the above-described machine is as follows: Before the hand crank 9 can be turned to make prints on mail items that are inserted under the printing drum 2 through a suitable slot in the housing "40, the lever 14 is pressed down , whereby the bevel gears 15 and 16 rotate and cause the arm 17 to push the pin 13 out of the path of the hand crank 9. This manipulation moves the angle lever 19 around its pin 21, thereby releasing the stop 24 so that the Main shaft 6. Can be rotated by the gears 7 and 8.
A single turn of the crank 9 causes a full rotation of the printing drum 2, so that all stamps on it are printed on the mail, which is guided by the movement of the drum and the roller 28 through the machine to the opposite side and ejected there . As the Druektrominel 2 rotates, the protruding pins 98 of the plate 97 are brought into engagement with the star wheel 73 on the spindle 74 of the counter sic then move this wheel over the distance of a number of teeth corresponding to the number of pins that are currently working in it Location are. In this way, the counter is moved over a certain number of units, since each impression is made by the printing drum 2.
If one wishes to print more than one stamp on a mail item, it is undesirable to repeat the strikethroughs and other information, and in order to avoid this repetition and to enable more than one stamp to be printed, the button 41 is turned inwards, towards the housing causing the thumb 35 to engage the roller 36 so that as the pressure roller 2 is rotated, the rotation of the thumb forces the roller 36 and lever 37 downward to press the bearings of the one exercising roller 28 down and thereby moving it out of engagement with the printing drum.
The thumb 35 is constructed in such a way that this movement of the roller 28 takes place immediately after a mark has been printed, so that the rest of the rotation of the printing drum is ineffective, bris @er mark stamp 96 is able to place another mark in line with and next to the to print the first impression. This manipulation can be repeated as desired, and when button 41 is returned to its normal position, the next print made by the print drum will add a mark and any remaining stamps the drum can print.
The rotation of the hand crank 9 can be continued until the prepaid number of units to which the counter is set has been used up. When this point in time it is enough, all pistons 76 have been pressed down so that the locking rod 77 can slide to the right (FIG. 1) under the influence of the spring 80, acting on the pin 81 by following it right (Fig. 2) pushes and blocks the path of the slide pin 20, which is prevented from moving, so that the Win angle lever 19 and lever 14 are also blocked until the counter is set again.
If you want to use the machine with letters of unusual length, the button 70 is depressed, whereby the spindle 63 of the pressure exerting roller 28 is forced down through the levers 64 and 6) 5 so that the pressure exerted Roll is prevented from taking the pressure drum.
This avoids the rotation of the drum 2 and the entrainment of the letter by the machine by the roller 28 and enables the removal of the letter through the entry slot after an impression has been made and avoids the repetition of the impression due to the length of the letter.
If you want to change the value of the brand to be printed, the button 45 is pushed inward, -which the pin 44 at the inner end of the shaft 43 finitely the slotted end of the spindle 100 of the roll 3 comes into a grip, so that Turning the button 45 brings the desired franking stamp into its effective position.
The housing 40 is provided in the vicinity of the button 45 with suitable markings so that the information on the edge of the button can be brought into correspondence with these markings in order to enable the correct setting of the Fran kierstempels. This setting can only take place when the machine is in the rest position shown in the drawing, since otherwise the tip of the thumb 33 prevents the shaft 43 from moving inward.
If the counter is to be removed, the nuts 91 and 92 are loosened and the counter is removed from the machine by means of the handle 90, this removal also includes removing the key from the blind drum 46. The pin 48 (Fig. 1) can thereby go up, so that the locking pin 49 can move to the right (Fig. 1) under the influence of its spring 51a to engage in the hole 50 of the thumb 51 and prevent further rotation of the printing drum 2 until the Counter is reinstalled.
When setting the counter, the wheels 72 are moved into a position in which the piston 76 can lift, for which the locking rod 77 has previously been moved to the left (Fig. 1), so that the lifting under the influence of the springs of the piston 79 takes place. So that the counter can not be set to zero before the previously paid amount has been used, the locking bar 77 must be pushed completely to the left (Fig. 1), and to ensure the correct setting of the counter by the post office official the screw 83 inserted and then sealed on the locking bar.
The handling of the inking device is monitored by the thumb 51, which is engaged with the roller 54a at the inner end of the arm 54. Since the roller slides on the smaller diameter portion of the thumb, the inking roller engages the surface of the printing drum, but when the thumb rotates to a position where its larger diameter portion is in contact with roller 54, the inking roller will move Inking device moved to an ineffective position. In this way it is possible that only those parts of the printing drum that carry the stamps receive color.
In the modified embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 8, the printing drum 108 is arranged within a part 109 of the housing which is open aal his Bo the 110 and overlaps a base plate 111 over which the letter to be stamped goes. Since only one side of the receiving space located above this base plate is closed by the main frame work 112 of the machine, it can be seen that envelopes and the like of any size can be inserted into this machine.
In order to prevent brand imprints from being fraudulently obtained from the stamp 113 printing the stamps, one or more arms 114 are embedded in the area of the stamp and arranged in such a way that they usually lie behind the stamp area and are not inked, when the stamp passes the inking device. As soon as this stamp is in its pressure position in its lowest rotational position, a fixed thumb 115, which acts on a piston 116 in the side of the drum 108, forces the arm 114 outwards until its surface is in the same plane with the stamp surface. If the stamp is fraudulently colored in this position.
is, the imprint has an additional feature that is produced by the arm 114, which can be seen with letters, or the like, to more clearly identify the fraudulent imprint. In this device, the stamp 113 printing the mark will rest at the lowest point of the drum when the machine is at rest and in a position ready for printing.
In order to enable satisfactory printing on envelopes or similar packaging of varying thickness, the printing drum 108 is arranged so that it cooperates with a pressure-exerting roller or rollers 117 which are arranged below it and on resilient bearings 118 lie, so that the mail item to be provided with a mark is held in full contact with the printing drum 108 upwards, regardless of its thickness.
The letter that is to be franked, for example, is conveyed through the machine by means of the rotating printing drum 108, and in order to ensure the printing of lower marks as close as possible, please include a pair of rotating arms 119 (Fig. 9) provided near the printing drum, which are pressed under the action of a thumb 120 on the article to be franked during its passage through the machine.
If the value to be printed is a multiple of the unit value for which the printing drum is built, the arms 119 are set in such a way that the printing of the stamp or stamps causes the mail item to be fed forward only over a distance that is the free space of the stamp printed on it or marks, whereupon arms 119 keep the mail item out of contact with the printing drum, so that each subsequent printing can be carried out cleanly and after the previous printing. After the last stamp of a series of this type, the printing drum completes its revolution, printing crossouts, the date and other information and then ejecting the mail from the machine.
The part of the printing drum that prints the date is provided with a spring-loaded latch, after the release of which the line type 121 encompassing the date can be pushed outwards for changing or setting, and this date part of the printing drum is only accessible when the machine is running is in the rest position. A flap is rotatably mounted in the housing such that a stop forming part of the flap and seated in the vicinity of its pivot is normally prevented from moving due to engagement with the edge of the drum.
When the machine is at rest, a cut comes to lie in the circumference of the drum opposite the stop, which enables the flap to be opened and access to the date printing device. In order to make the machine possible to the effect that it prints marks that have a multiple of the intended unit value, and to drive the counter according to the franked item, the following arrangements are provided: The counter that can be lifted out with a housing part is normally The printing drum is moved over unit distances with each revolution by means of a mutilated disk that sits on or conaxially to the printing drum shaft 122.
It is preferable to use a plurality of these disks 123, each of which is serrated with teeth corresponding in number to a multiple of the unit value one wishes to print, and these disks are arranged to be in one or the other can be rotated in the other direction, unm the correct one in direct engagement with the gearbox for driving a counter is not provided.
The disks 123 are mounted on the main shaft 124, which has a square cross-section, in order to enable easy and correct adjustment of various units arranged thereon. The shaft 124 carries the thumb 120 and a screw corner 125 on which a sleeve 126 is provided which, when the shaft is opened by means of the crank 127 attached outside the housing. is rotated, the disks are moved in either direction according to the value to be printed.
If the printing drum is provided with a stamp roller for producing a variety of branded prints, as described with respect to FIGS. 1 to 7, one element of the shaft 124 is provided with gripper numbers which can come into engagement with corresponding teeth of the stamp roller, so class by turning the hand crank 127 at the same time changed the position of the stamp roller and the setting of the discs 123 is made.
An independent lever is provided for setting the position of the thumb 120.
As an example of the marks that can be printed by the machine, the drum 108 may be arranged to print marks of a unit value of one cent, two marks of a value of two cents, and so on ., up to a desired total amount, or if the stamp is also used to print a variety of marks, simple impressions of multiple times the unit value can be made.
If one or more brand stamps are replaced by others of a different value, the discs <B> 123 </B> must also be changed accordingly, which is easy to do, and the new discs must be on the move as a result Square cross-section are blocked.
