Description
Verfahren zur Darstellung von Isopropylallylbarbitursäure. In dem Schweiz. Patent Nr. 90592 vom 17.
Process for the preparation of isopropylallylbarbituric acid. In Switzerland. Patent No. 90592 of September 17, 1920 describes a process for the preparation of isopropylallylbarbituric acid, characterized in that allyl halides are allowed to act on the alkali compounds of monoisopropylbarbituric acid at low temperature without applying pressure.
It has now been found that isopropylallylbarbituric acid can also be obtained from the same components if one works at any temperature while applying pressure. Avoiding pressure was particularly obvious in earlier work in aqueous media, considering the risk of saponification, and it is interesting that, despite this prejudice, we were able to determine the applicability of pressure. With the application of pressure, a considerable acceleration of the reaction, or a considerable increase in the yield, especially calculated for the unit of time, can be achieved.
Isopropylallyl barbituric acid is used as a sleeping aid.
Example: 7 grams of isopropylbarbituric acid prepared in a known manner are dissolved in 1.6 grams of NaOH + 20 cm H = 0 in a bomb tube; add 5 grams of C, H, Br and 5 to 10 cm of ether. The whole thing is shaken for four hours at 40 to 45 in the oil oven. After the reaction has ended, the aqueous liquid reacts acidic.
The reaction liquid is etherified with more ether. A fairly pure crude product is obtained from the ether with a yield of almost 100%, up to 8.6 gor, which contains hardly any greasy components and is almost odorless. The crude product is recrystallized from 60% alcohol with a yield of 80 to 85%.
