Description

EMI0003.0025
    et que, dans le calcul de ces objectifs, afin  d'accroître la netteté des images marginales,  on laisse à P une valeur négative appropriée  à l'étendue du champ à représenter;

             b)    Des     objectifs        dissymétriques        (fig.    5)  permettant la transformation, lors de la re  production d'un film non     collimaté        F,    obtenu  sans lentille     collimatrice,    en un film     colli-          maté        F',    c'est-à-dire un film équivalent à ce  lui obtenu à l'aide d'un objectif dont le dia  phragme est combiné avec. une lentille     colli-          matrice;

      un tel film collimaté jouit de la. pro priété que l'image du filtre sélecteur de cou leurs se forme au foyer et sur l'axe optique de chacun de ses éléments lenticulaires.

      Lens with diaphragm and color filter placed therein, for color photography using sensitive embossed films. The object of the invention is a lens with a diaphragm and a color filter placed therein, for color photography using sensitive embossed films. In the description, the following will be described: a first embodiment of this object which can be used for taking pictures, a second for reproduction, a third for projection.

  The color photography processes based on the use of sensitive films embossed, on their non-sensitive face, with a lenticular, spherical or cylindrical system, present, in their application, multiple difficulties. These difficulties are due to. that the different cells of the film operate under different optical conditions, depending on whether they are located on the axis of the objective or at the edge of the field.

  We have already tried to overcome these diffi culties by placing, for shooting, very close to the film to be impressed, a collimating lens arranged so that one of its focal points is close to that of the objective. Such a system is not, however, sufficient to eliminate the drawbacks mentioned above; In fact, in order to obtain a suitable and reliable correction, the lens must form with the objective a perfectly determined optical assembly.

  These drawbacks do not exist if the objective is calculated specifically, whether for shooting, reproduction or projection, so that the color filter placed in the diaphragm is seen from the film side, at little near to infinity, which amounts to the fact that the collimating lens returns the emergence pupil of the objective very far in front of the sensitive layer, in which the image of the color filter is formed.

  The accompanying drawing shows a photographic lens according to the -usual arrangement and, by way of examples, three embodiments of the lens according to the present invention.

  Fig. 1 shows the progress of the light rays in the current objective of shots without a collimating lens and shows the difference in optical operation of the marginal and central lenticular elements; Fig. 2 shows the drawback which arises when pulling the devices; The fi-. 3, d and to show the embodiments mentioned above.

  In order to make the invention understood and to clearly show its interest, it is essential to first highlight the disadvantages which exist in the current objective, by making use of FIG. 1. On it: D represents the lens diaphragm; this is where the three-color selector filter is located, which presents several sectors or bands, either in tinted gelatin, or in glass, or in another material: the colors of the bands or sectors are such that the together reconstitutes white light and each band or sector allows a determined part of the visible spectrum to pass.

  P 'is the image of this diaphragm, seen through the optical system posterior to the diaphragm, that is to say that P' is what is called the emergence pupil; in any objective, one places a diaphragm which determines its opening; the image of the diaphragm given by the rear part of the objective is called la. emergence pupil, the image given by the anterior part of the incidence pupil.

  The sensitive embossed film is shown in L S. considerably magnified.

  L is the lenticular side of the embossed sensitive film, considerably magnified; S is the sensitive surface.

  Under good shooting conditions, each lens projects on the S side an extremely reduced image of the selector filter placed in D.

  First of all, there is the greatest need for the conservation of the. purity of the colors so that these images are very sharp, so that the lines of separation of the very secondary filaments which will be photographed in S delimit as frankly as possible the various colored regions. Now, it can be seen immediately, on inspection of FIG. I, that if this condition is more or less fulfilled for the lenticular elements located in the vicinity of the axis, as in L, it is no longer the same for the marginal elements, like L, L., which give, of the filter, strongly eccentric images.

  The lack of sharpness of the filters. The secondary marginal resulting from this eccentricity is not compensated for when one proceeds to the subsequent operations of pulling the positive, nor to the projection. On the contrary, each optical recovery of the images exaggerates this lack of sharpness, so that it is finally quadrupled in the projection.

   This explains, in part, the lack of purity of the colors made using the usual lens.

  There is a second system of serious disadvantages which also results from the difference in optical operation of the marginal and central lenticular elements and which is the following.

  The central region of the filter placed at l) will be designated by Y (green), and by R. (red) a neighboring region. The two regions are reproduced respectively at 1 <B> "</B> and R 'behind the central lens L and at F'1 and R'1 behind the marginal lens L1.

   In order for the color reproduction to be exact, it is necessary that, conversely, all the regions V "T" 1, on the one hand, R 'R'1, on the other hand, are represented <<, in turn, during projection, by images well superimposed in a united mass that l 'or R. This implies that the pupil of incidence of the objective (the projection is at the same distance from this film as was the pupil of emergence of the objective of the shooting.

   In practical terms, we are reduced to using projection lenses having roughly the same focal length as those for taking pictures. This is a condition that is generally inconsistent with distance to. which are the projection screens in the rooms and with the dimensions of these screens.

  Another difficulty due to the same cause is this. need for perfect centering of the photographic image on the axis of the projection lens. An offset of the center of the cliché in its plane, with respect to the optical axis, shifts the chromogenic images by the same amount with respect to the projection selection filter resulting in a diffusion of the colors.

  When the slides are drawn, if the operation is carried out by contact, it can be seen from fig. 2 that the V 'R' images of the filter on the original film reproduce in V "R" correctly for the central elements, but incorrectly for the marginal elements.

  If we operate the reproduction in the dark room, with the unit magnification, the diaphragm must occupy the same position in distance, and have the same angular extent relative to one of the films, as to the shooting, this which leads to the use of objectives working for the same field with considerable aperture ratios, double those of the shooting objectives, resulting in an imperfection of the reproductions.

  Thanks to the fact that the emergence pupil in which the last image of the colored filter must be located is rejected very far, forward (in the film, all the difficulties inherent in the position in distance of the filter disappear and we do not have to more to worry about than angular questions, the solution of which from the point of view of geometrical optics therefore becomes very easy.

  It is already possible to obtain shapes of lenses meeting this condition very simply, by starting from the current shapes and by placing in the vicinity of their focal plane a lens C playing the role of collimator and whose focal length is calculated in such a way that the primary objective's emergence pupil is located in the anterior focal plane of the lens. The shape of this lens is determined by the condition of minimizing the distortion it introduces into the image.

  The other aberrations that this collimating lens introduces into the optical system: spherical aberration, aigrette, astigmatism and field curvature will be compensated by the introduction of residual aberrations, the reverse in the original lens.

  For example, the collimating lens introduces a forward curvature of the image approximately equal to <I> to. </I> <pjnz, cp denoting its power and n being the refractive index of the material whose it is formed.

  The objective will therefore be calculated so as to present an image curvature towards the rear and equal to <I> to </I> 99 / n. Likewise, it should have a slight overcorrection of spherical aberration and chromatic aberration.

       To polish the shot, one can use anastigmatic objectives (fig. 3) formed of three isolated thin systems and a collimating lens placed near the focal plane.

    We know that, in the case of ana.stigmatic objectives, the curvature of the image surface is equal to the sum of Petzval P:
EMI0003.0025
    and that, in calculating these objectives, in order to increase the sharpness of the marginal images, P is left with a negative value appropriate to the extent of the field to be represented;

   when calculating an objective of this nature having to be provided with a pupil collimator lens, we must therefore increase the residual value attributed to P by the quantity <I> - </I> 99 / n. In this figure, Fa represents the focus of lens C, <I> Fe </I> located in the emergence pupil of the anastigmatic lens. On the other hand, the emergence pupil of the total optic system is not indicated, because it is rejected to infinity.

  For reproduction, we can use: a) Symmetrical objectives (fig. 4), each half of which is made up of two separate optical systems 0 and C, 0 'and C', the 0 and 0 'systems playing the role of 'objective proper, systems C and C' that of collimating lens for the diaphragm placed at D, halfway between systems 0 and 0 '. Fe 'represents the focus of the. lens C 'and coincides with the image of the center of the diaphragm, given by the system 0'.

             b) Asymmetrical objectives (fig. 5) allowing the transformation, during the reproduction of a non-collimated film F, obtained without a collimating lens, into a collimated film F ', that is to say a film equivalent to that obtained using a lens whose diaphragm is combined with. a collimator lens;

      such a collimated film enjoys the. property that the image of the color selector filter is formed at the focus and on the optical axis of each of its lenticular elements.

  Such lenses can be obtained by combining (fig. 5) an ordinary 0 shooting lens (the same one that was used to take the film) with the rear 0 'C' half of the camera lens. reproduction described above, so that the incidence pupil of the projection lens coincides in position with the emergence pupil of the objective used for taking pictures. <I> Fe '</I> is the focus of the lens C' and coincides with the center of the emergence pupil of the system 0 0 '.
