Description

Vehicle with electrical converter and transformer. The invention relates to vehicles with rotating electrical converters, for example electrical converter locomotives or auxiliary vehicles with a mobile converter. According to the invention, a significantly better use of space than with all previously known converter vehicles is achieved in that the main transformer of the vehicle and. the converter can be arranged one above the other.

For example, the main transformer is stored lying on your vehicle frame and its housing is also used as a base plate for the converter, such as a motor generator. However, the transformer can also be installed above the converter, which offers the advantage of very simple cable routing, since the AC power is usually supplied through the roof of the vehicle.

On locomotives, the arrangement of the transformer above the converter is favorable, since locomotive motors underneath it are more easily accessible than if the transformer, which takes up the entire floor area, directly covers the motors.

Further advantages of both of these arrangements arise when the converter and transformer are cooled together. Since a higher heating limit is permissible for the stationary transformer than for the rotating converter, its exhaust air can still be used to cool the transformer and, if a self-ventilating converter is used, a fan motor can be saved.

One has probably already used the space available in the base plate to accommodate switchgear, regulating transformers and the like in smaller electrical machines. On the other hand, transformers and rotating machines that have been stationary on vehicles have so far been placed in adjacent chambers, despite this. But it is precisely here that we are dealing with large electrical units that predominantly take up the scarce space available.

In terms of height, the space in such vehicles could only be used to a certain extent by placing the switches in front of auxiliary equipment below the vehicle roof; but where they are only inconveniently accessible. The arrangement according to the invention offers a considerable advantage since the large D machine units, in particular the stationary transformer, require much less monitoring and maintenance than the many-part switches and similar auxiliary devices that are subject to constant wear.

It is therefore significantly cheaper if the space is filled up to under the vehicle roof in the sense of the invention by the large units lying one above the other.
